my task manager doesnt have the close button,minimize button and the tab menus..only the applications the endtask button,switch to and new task!! what should i do!! and when my PC startup the windows xp logo load for almost 10 secs.

My Task manager has been disabled what can I do to Keep it going? The second problem is that my turn off computer button will not stay on my start menu. I have tried a few different things that people have told me, but everytime I reset, it goes back to no button.

It will bring up the process list with the "End Process" button, but that is it. The other tabs and pull down menus are gone. I'm running XP yet my start button and the taskbar aren't blue, the standard XP color, they're now looking like they did in Win 98. How do I fix this? Also I can't access the task manager either by control alt del or by right clicking the task bar and selecting task manager there. I've searched on this and found a number of different methods to supposedly fix this but haven't been successful so far.

The strange part is they do on my other PC's.If I start Word I don't see word.exe if I start some games I don't see their *.exe's I find it to be strange that htings aren't being listed in here. Uninstall and reinstall of offending softwares is not changing anything.Mind you Process manager is not empty it has a fair amount going on... just some never show up.Also no rhyme or reason as far as application opening times I can start up word first and it not show up but then start up internet explorer and see the iexplore.exe.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Winodws XP on a Compaq nc6120. I opened my laptop today to get it working and clicked on Google Chrome's shortcut, and nothing happened. The hourglass cursor came up and it stayed that way for about a half hour, then I tried to turn it off and back on the same thing keeps happening. I have also tried other programs. The task manager doesn't show up and the start bar does not even respond. I ran an HDD self-test and it said that all tests were successful. I use Avast Anti-Virus Free, and tried to download Comodo, but something went wrong, this was the day before theses issues started happening. I'm not very intelligent when it comes to 'under-the-hood' problems with computers, so I have no idea what could be happening.

I now find in XP that quite often it doesn't work or after a long delay brings up multiple Taskmanagers. And I sometimes still have to use the "Forbidden" Poweroff button to close down.

that the task manager has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I'm using Windows XP Professional, an Intel P4 with 1.0GB Ram, nVidia GeForce FX5700 graphics card. Microsoft's Windows Defender Beta 2, Nod 32 Antivirus program and eTrust's Pest Patrol are running on my PC. I also have Windows Firewall running in the background. On starting the PC and before the Microsoft XP's welcome splash screen, I get a blank window. Not always, but 99% of the time. The only way I can close this window, is to click the OK button that appears on the screen. Clicking on the red X button doesn't help close it either. Once the window closes, the welcome screen appears and then the desktop with my icons, folders, shortcuts etc. appear and all is well with the PC. Most of the time the window is blank except for the OK button in the middle. On some occasions, a single file path(different each time I start the PC - examples listed below) can be seen on the dark blue band on top of the window and occasionally, inside the window:

A friend of mine has a 4 yr. old PC running XP Home with 128Mb of memory. He's had problems with programs aborting recently. I tried to run Device Manager to make sure there were no issues there. It briefly brought the screen up, then it went away. The same thing happened to Task Manager when I tried to see what was running and how much memory was being used. Anybody ever see this behavior before? I might try installing a memory cleaner pgm (ie. Memturbo), but I'm not sure I would even be able to get it to run. The hard drive amd memory seem to have no errors.

Right click on an empty part of the Taskbar2. From the popup menu select 'Properties'3. The 'Taskbar and Start Menu Properties' window will open.4. Now click the 'Customize...' button5. The 'Customize Notifications' window will open.6. In the column 'Behavior' set each one to 'Always hide' (you only need to do this for the Current Items not the Past Items)7. Now click 'OK'8. The window will close, all your icons will be hidden, and the chevron button will appear again.9. Now click 'Customize' again and restore all your icon settings to what they were before, or whatever you prefer.10. Click 'OK' again to close the window.11. Click 'OK' to close the last window.Your icons will all be hidden until you start using them again. They will then appear as they did before, until Windows looses them again.

The mouse pointer remains active but i cannot click on anything succesfully. The task bar and task manager do not respond at all, i can open files saved on my desktop but cannot do anything when they're open and cannot close them again. I reset my PC a number of times but this did not solve the problem. I assume this is a virus or spyware problem but could it possibly be anything else?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have the oddest problem thats occuured in the past few days.It appears to be connected with the opening and closing and switching between tasks.For no apparent reason, the window you either want to close or one that's been opened and you need to say click on a button to start a task, just fails to respond. The only way to unfreeze and carry on with your work is to open task manager then you can click on any line of info on the list, dont take any action in task manager, just close it down. Then you can carry on with what you were doing.I'm running a relatively new machine with XP SP3.I've reinstalled XP and I've checked the machine for all sorts of nasties and there's nothing.
This problem can be in programs, browsers (firefox is the worst. If you load a new page, all the URL links will not be accessible, meaning when you mouse over they do not change the cursor, til you do what I mentioned withthe task manager).I have checked the system performance with task manager open and I am not getting any sudden drains on the machine, which is a pretty fast processor (dual core) and working with 4 Gb or RAM.One other thing I noticed. Say you have a page of icons on screen for example in control panel. Single click to highlight one of them and then I would usually double click to perform the action. Now I can't double click because I get a small box open withthe options available open etc.
I have no idea why this is happening, but I reckon it is connected to the problem.I am going nuts with this, because it is adding a lot of time to my PC day constantly having to unfreeze.If anyone can throw some possible causes. I honestly thought the reinstall would fix this once and for all but no such luck.If there's anything I have left out to aptly describe this problem, please ask.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am using XP Pro and up until recently when I clicked on the volume control button in the task bar on the lower right hand side of the screen, the button would open up and I could raise or lower the volume with the slider and right click on the button to get an idea of how loud the volume had been increased or decreased. After hooking up a USB turntable and installing the accompaning "AudaCity" software the only sound I can get when I click on the button is the "mute" sound even though there is no check in the "mute" box. It doesn't matter how high or low I raise the slider, the sound is the same; mute.
That really would not be a problem in as much as I am still able to play all .wmv, .wav, .mpeg, and .mp3, etc. files and the volume control button works to control the volume on all these files. The problem is that I was able to record a song from two different albums and save it to "my music" folder, but when I tried to record another song the following day the turntable would not record. I discovered it was not working because there was no sound and thinking perhaps I had muted the PC I checked the volume control button and discovered then there was no sound when I clicked the button.
MY pc was going slowdown it wouldn't let met use the magical end task button ,so I switched of the power supply and it wont load up now ,I've tried the back up disks but I fear I've messed around with the boot-up thing anyhow I have another computer now not as good but works all the same .MY question is what's the cheapest way to get the broken computer working again?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI started up my computer and the taskbar at the bottom is missing (start button, taskbar, and icons). The start menu comes up when I hit the Windows Button on my keyboard but the taskbar does not appear. The start menu also pops up when I hit Ctrl+esc but without the taskbar. When I open up a program a little icon is created at the bottom and I can click through those, but no taskbar. I tried to see if I could resize it from the bottom but the resize arrows don't come up.
