Cd Rw & Dvd Rw Does Not Show Up In My Computer - Device Manager
Sep 19, 2005
I just installed a brand new cd-rw & dvd-rw into my computer. and windows did not see that there was new hardware installed, and it did not assign a letter to the drive, in fact it does not show up in my computer. It also does not show up in device manager. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM HERE!!!!! I have triple checked the cables connecting them to the motherboard, and all is well, there are definately connected. the power cable is also connected, the links on the front of them blink when i restarted the computer
ga-965p-s3 motherboard, intel core 2 duo e6400 processor. cpu does not show up in device manager and my computer is listed as a standard pc instead of an acpi multiprocessor.
Over clocked my system a bit too much, and ended up having to reformat. It's now a new install of Win 2000 Pro. But for some reason I don't have my USB. It doesn't show in device manager or Everest. Have done a system file check, loaded the newest Via chipset drivers, anything else I could think of, including show hidden files in device manager. Did a file search and the USB .inf file is there. But no controller. Everything worked fine before the reformat.
I recently reinstalled Xp after formatting the hdd, since I was giving a friend in need this computer. Everything went smooth and I left the computer in her possession. A few weeks later I was visiting her and was using the computer when I noticed there was no sound, where there had previously been sound. Upon opening sounds properties box I found a message stating that there was no audio device installed.I opened the device mgr and there was a yellow exclamation mark under "video controller" which was under "display." After doing some research, I came to the conclusion that the chipset driver needed updated or re-installed.
Win XP SP2. DVD &CD drives missing from my computer and device manager. Showing in bios however. (yellow exclamation marks in device manager)I have tried numerous fixes for this problem but to no available.
I have installed a targus 7 port powered USB HUB on my computer. Device manager reports unknown device. I have deleted and it restalled the drived after the system rebooted. Device manager still saying unknown device. Their is not driver needed according to the manufacture. When the PC is booting it does see the IPOD mini and the Flash drive. But once the PC is fully out and login and I look a the device manager is still reporting unlnown device error (code 10).
I had some trouble last night and today with getting rid of a virus. Now that it is gone, I am having sound problems (maybe related, maybe not). This morning, when I opened iTunes I got a message that there was no audio device detected. After trying several things, I rebooted. Magically, I could play music again. However, a short while later, I again got an error message telling me that there is no audio device found, even though it shows up in Device Manager as working properly. The problem goes away for a short time after I reboot, but returns. It is Realtek AC 97. Why won't my computer keep recognizing it? (It tried going to Realtek's site to download an update. It has updates for Windows 98, 95, etc., but not for XP. Or at least I couldn't find it.)
Running Windows XP on Emachines ET1161-07. Installed all drivers that I could find, since EMachines does not represent XP. Tried Realtek audio and HD audio, tried Intel, didn't work. Tried NVidia, as it has an NVidia motherboard. Spent too much time on this computer. Can anyone lend a hand? I know it's got something to do with Audio, as there's no audio device detected in Sounds, under Control Panel.Customer has to have computer today.
I gotta a XP Home SP2 Machine was running fine then on boot up sound device not found. went to device mng and no items displayed. System restore had been didabled and Norton disabled as well. Done a spyware scan pull nout so did virus
I had this problem last time when I fresh installed Windows XP Pro on my computer. I don't know the time, but it happens at least 30 days after I reinstall the OS and software. Today, my computer prompted me to install drivers for a PCI Input Device, but I haven't installed any new hardware for months. Basically, I haven't touched the inside of my computer for that long. So why is Device Manager prompting me to install this mystery device? Hardware ID shows that it is from vendor 1102, which is Creative, and I have an Audigy 1. Also, my FireWire port is Code 10, the device cannot start. So I'm thinking the mystery device is the same firewire port. But why show up as a separate device? I tried removing the devices and restarting the computer, but they return to haunt me again. The device properties for the PCI Input Device says PCI SLOT 7, AND I DONT HAVE A 7th slot! Can someone help me, please? Device manager shows my 1394 Net Adapter with a yellow exclamation, and it has code 10, device cannot start. There is an unknown device, the PCI Input Device, which doesn't allow me to install any drivers for it, yet it has the creative Vendor ID 1102. It shows itself as being PCI Slot 7.
I have a feeling that this is simply a case of some registry settings which need adding/modifying/deleting but exactly which ones and what values I do not know. No, I haven't tried re-installing XP.
A friend of mine has a 4 yr. old PC running XP Home with 128Mb of memory. He's had problems with programs aborting recently. I tried to run Device Manager to make sure there were no issues there. It briefly brought the screen up, then it went away. The same thing happened to Task Manager when I tried to see what was running and how much memory was being used. Anybody ever see this behavior before? I might try installing a memory cleaner pgm (ie. Memturbo), but I'm not sure I would even be able to get it to run. The hard drive amd memory seem to have no errors.
so, a few years back i read a magazine that said to change the type of computer in device manager to standard pc because it made the computer run a little better or faster.so now i've got my laptop and i've noticed it getting slower and thought that i would do this... VERY BAD MOVE! i can still boot windows and everything - it meant that i had to let the computer reinstall all of the drivers for my hardware - but i have noticed in the device manager now that there are two instances of 'standard pc', there is also a new section titled 'other devices' with about 15 devices that seem to have no driver for them - some mention 'ISA' so i am guessing that changing to standard pc means that windows thinks my laptop is now a desktop pc with ISA slots? i find that when i put my laptop lid down the thing shuts down, when i press the power button it turns off straight away (doesn't even shut down!). i had had the laptop configured for ages to do nothing when i closed the lid and give me shut down options when i pressed the power button. i look in power options and i can only cinfigure the monitor screen and hard disk power off options - every other option is not available. when i do bring up the shut down options i can no longer choose standby.
i have also realised that i can not turn on my wireless connection - i've tried all sorts to get it to work with no avail! the laptop is an acer ferrari and when i call up the manager app it says that bluetooth and wireless are not present (by the way i can still get the bluetooth button to work - correction - it starts up with the button on but if i turn it off it won't let me turn it on again). the emanager and presentation manager buttons on the laptops casing don't work either (i have to access them via software route).
Last night I installed ATiTool 0.24 over my 0.25 version (stupidly). I also did a BIOS update and installed Cat6.3 and then AVIVO converter. When I rebooted, I had this new PCI device requiring a driver, but it's an unknown device and doing an auto update helped me.I can't get rid of this pesky PCI device (tried uninstalling but Windows detects it again after restart/boot-up). All my stuff is working, so I don't know where this critter came from?
I have a huge problem with two unknown devices in my "Device Manager" after formating and reinstalling fresh copy of Win Xp Pro.In my "Device Manager" there is two lines with Unknown devices.
I'm using XP SP3 Home Gateway desktop My device Manager has nothing in it. I don't know when it quit showing. I have checked Bios plug&Play, and it is set in Auto. I am also getting an error stating my recovery D: is running out of disk space.
My computer cannot detect any cd's in my DVD or CD drive. When I open Device Manager the CD/DVD devices have an error. This error: Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41) Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device. When I run the DriverScan it simply doesn't even have an entry for the drives, probably since it thinks it doesn't even exist at the moment.
Anyone know how I can rename a device in device manager, (or the registry), so it doesn't show #2 after the device.I used the leadtek driver uninstall tool last night. And it removed the drivers I had for this Leadtek Deluxe tuner alright.BUT it also renamed my onboard Gigabit LAN (onboard) to #2 my scanner to #2, and removed my Nvidia drivers for the video card. And reverted the videocard drivers to MS Nvidia drivers.I managed to fix the scanner entry by uninstalling the drivers, then rebooting and reinstalling the drivers. And I managed to fix the videocard drivers, by reinstalling the Nvidia drivers. So, yup, anyone have any idea how I can change the board LAN, so it doesnt have #2 after it? sing XP Pro SP2
I have a strange issue. I have a couple of processes that do not show in task manager at all. The strange part is they do on my other PC's.If I start Word I don't see word.exe if I start some games I don't see their *.exe's I find it to be strange that htings aren't being listed in here. Uninstall and reinstall of offending softwares is not changing anything.Mind you Process manager is not empty it has a fair amount going on... just some never show up.Also no rhyme or reason as far as application opening times I can start up word first and it not show up but then start up internet explorer and see the iexplore.exe.
My device manager is gone! This is a friends computer(all computer specs given are for the computer I am speaking of in this post), so I am not aware of any changes they may have made and I also don't know how long it has been gone. When I go into my control panel / system / hardware / device manager It brings up an internet explorer screen that says the following:I also tried running a Windows search for "Device Manager" and it came back blank. Does anyone have any ideas how a device manager can disappear? I found other posts about Device Managers being empty but no problems quite like mine.
That's how my manager has been looking for the past week or so. The top menus and tabs never show up. Has anybody else seen this happen? If yes, is there a fix?
There is an article in this month's PC World "Fast Windows Fixes". The first of the fixes suggests that computer performance can be slowed because drivers for devices you no longer have are still being loaded. It provides a way to ensure that Device Manager also lists drivers for devices that are not currently connected, so I set it to do that.I found no device drivers loaded for anything not connected to my system, but DID find what appears to be a strange situation. Under Processors, my CPU is listed TWO times. The properties for both are identical. It looks like one should be deleted (I only have one CPU on the mobo, an Intel P4 Prescott running at 3.0GHz). But this is the MOTHER OF ALL DEVICES on a computer, so before I delete one of the entries, I want to check to see if it's supposed to have two entries. Can I delete one or should both be there?
I think this may have happened because about 10 days ago, I did a FULL reformat on my HD and reinstalled Windows and all 85 updates since the creation of my Windows CD. I also loaded drivers from other CD's that came with the PC, like my Marvell Ethernet card, Soundmax onboard audio, etc., AND the Asus CD containing the Intel 875/865 chipset drivers. I'm wondering if well before I loaded the latter, that Windows already loaded those drivers and the CD loaded them again. BTW, the driver dates in each entry for the CPU in Device Manager is 4/1/04.
I was working with tech service to get my wireless router back up and running. after control panel, system, device manager would not come up. or if i tried again and again it would pop up and disappear.
I just reinstalled windows and it doesnt show any CD rom in my device manager. Ive run the "repair" module of Windows XP but it is still the same. I have heaps of software I need to install (including office)
my task manager doesnt have the close button, minimize button and the tab menus..only the applications the endtask button, switch to and new task!! what should i do!! and when my PC startup the windows xp logo load for almost 10 secs.
