Hard Drive Not Detected

I get an error on the boot and it tells me that the hard drive can't be detected. then just goes to a blinking curser on a blank black screen.I looked in the bios and read what other forums wrote and things seem to be set correctly.I did switch it to enable UEFI Boot and that just made it to where I can't get into the BIOS Settings now.I am running xp and am connected to a central server.I have only had the pc for a year with no major problems.I can't get a hold of my IT guy since it is the weekend.

i have use more than 10 disk of windows xp to format compaq pressario v3000.. when i press enter to format.. it shown that the hard drive is not installed. what should i do sir?

have tried 1.6ghz 512mb xp pro sp2 and 1.2ghz 512mb memory 256mb graphics memory xp home sp2 drive is 250gb maxtor. the situation is if i have it in my external HDD enclosure it assigns a drive letter but i get " the device is not ready" error if i attempt to access it and if i put in my main computer as a slave drive it is detected during boot but not in windows.can anyone help me i tried deleteing the driver and having windows redetect but no luck.it might be unrelated but delayed write failure keep happening on g:/$mft and g:/$bmp.

Recently I opened up my computer to take the dust out of it as I have before. I hadent done so in a long time so there was some caked on dust on some components. I took the RAM out an cleaned it, re-installed it. I also took my vidoe card out because the heat sink had been cloged with dust aswell. After putting everything back and restarting my computer I recived this msg before windows start up. Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEMand it followed with instruction to use the xp setup disk to repair the problem. so I threw the windows CD in, and tried to repair however the program tells me I have no hard drive installed. Which I do since my computer is 3 years old now and has been working fine. I hadent changed any bios settings, I never disconnected the hard dirve either.

I am running a AMD 64, 1 GIG memory, Asus motherboard, real nice computer.Everything has been working fine until last night. I received the BLUE SCREEN and now when I try to re-boot I get a message which reads NO HARD DISK DRIVE DETECTED.I dont want to lose all the family photos and such that I have loaded up on this machine.

Dumped Vista and installed XPP. Went smoothly, except get this message on start-up. Adapter 1 -no array defined -no hard disc detected continues on and windows starts, no problem.

i have a problem with my cd-rom, i asked a technician to re-format my laptop it is a acer aspire 3620. all other parts of the systems works normally but then my cd-rom is not functioning the comp cant read the cd-rom.. it does not even show on the computer system.

I have windows xp installed in my pc,but for last 2 days my pc isn't detecting dvd drive in my computer but its there in bios setup.I tried all the techniques posted here but none of them worked..what i did,i installed xp in another drive and now its showing the dvd drive.So anyone could help me out to detect my dvd drive in the initial case.

This one has me baffled. My DVD/CD drive is no longer detected in the Bios of my Asus A8V Motherboard. I have it attached as the Primary Slave and the Bios says that it's not detected. It used to be, how else would I have installed XP. The drive works fine for burning Cd's and DVD's and shows up as working normally in Device Manager. Any thoughts?

Not sure what is going on here, but my XP system is finding a 3rd drive which is a 'AXV CD/DVD-ROM ScSi Cdrom device'. The only thing I can figure is it has to do something with the zip drive.I have a cd burner and dvd burner also, both of which are detected and work correctly.I have tried to uninstall it but it keeps coming back. What could be causing this? My system suddenly just reboots when playing games now also. I have run spyware, antivirus and hijackthis to find something and nothing comes up. I'm thinking the sudden reboot is related.

I have a Dell computer where one of the loading .dll files came up 'missing' one day, so it won't boot. I want to get all the photos and other docs off the hard drive. I had downloaded one version of linux and was able to see the files on the internal hard drive, but was unable to copy them to a memory stick or external hard drive. Now I've downloaded ubuntu and booted off a memory stick... this time, it's telling me that the internal hard drive has all kinds of bad sectors and won't let me access any of the files on there.

My laptop died and I removed the hard drive.i hooked the hard drive up to my new laptop via a SATA/IDE cable.
I can see the old hard drive in the E drive and it appears that all the contents are there by the size of the hard drive (same as when I had it in the old laptop) but I can only see, actually view, a very small percentage of the drive.
My goal: I want to transfer all old music, word documents and photos from old laptop into new laptop.

i have a Compaq nx 7400 .i was hahving a lot of problems with the computer so i decided to put a new hard drive in and reinstall XP .
well i have the new hard drive in and started up the machine and changed the bott options to run from the dvd and all went fine until i should press the ENTER ( return ) button to install XP now . as soon as i did that the next window said no hard drive found . this was also happening on the old hard drive that was in the machine .

I had this idea, see if anybody has an opinion about this. My wife has an old XP computer I want to buy her a new one but she doesn't like the vista and she wants to keep the old xp operating system. What I want to do is take the old hard drive and put it in the new computer as the master and take the new hard drive and put it in as the slave erasing the vista off it. Then using the master slave way can I transfer the xp operating system and all her files and data from the old hard drive to the new one.

I recently helped someone save the documents off of their computer after it crashed (it was missing a Windows file. I tried the repair command and it wouldn't work, so I decided to save the files and reformat the hard drive).I plugged the hard drive into a working computer and pulled all the documents off of it (VERY slowly) onto an external hard drive.
Every once in awhile I wouldn't be able to pull a picture or document off because of a cyclic redundancy check error. I just moved on and saved what I could. I assumed it was because the hard drive was already bad so I just moved what I could.

I am cloning my existing hard drive in my laptop (sata) to an external hard drive (pata) in preparation for installing a new larger hard drive (sata)in the laptop. Can I, or how do I transfer the cloned data from the external (pata) to the new internal hard drive (sata)? I am facing two problems with my lap top hp campac presario 2100.
1.The loptops battery to be changed. I dont know how many batteries are there. Any cmos battery there like any other pc. Pl advice. What would be the cost. and the model number . The hard disk requires replacement. I want to know the model numberor exact type of hard disk would be fit in. and the cost thereof.3. Windows xp home edition has been preloaded in the laptop. How to take a copy of the os and copy in the new hard disk. I have the serial number etc for the OS.

When installing a larger main drive, how do I get the drivers copied onto the slave before I take out the main one I wonder is there a simple way of doing this, I am using Windows XP home edition, the PC is an oldish one and isn't any specific make, so I can't get any clever programs from the manufacturers site

A little over a year ago I purchased a used IBM Thinkpad laptop from ebay for my wife. It came with Windows 2000 Professional installed and everything worked fine. No CDs or floppies came with the computer. A couple of months later, it was stolen by one of her business associates. It eventually was recovered, but the thief had installed Windows XP along with the OS that was already installed. In trying to remove XP and return the machine to its original state, I somehow managed to eventually not be able to use either OS. As it stands now I have no OS and cannot even access my hard drive.When I boot from a floppy then try to change to C: drive, I get the error message: Invalid media type reading drive c: Abort, Retry, Fail?

A friend gave me a laptop, my problem is that it came from Japan thus everything is japanase thus I can't hardly use it. The reason I accept it is bcoz he said I can try to reinstall a win xp with english version (btw, the OS is win xp pro in japanase version). I had to reinstall XP because of spyware issues. I saved important data on my slave drive. I reinstalled XP. Now the bios, device manager, and disk manager recognizes the slave drive but didn't assign it a drive letter. In disk manager it shows as a basic disk, NTFS, Healthy (Active), 18.65 GB,Online. When I right click the volume to assign a drive letter it is grayed out.
