Not sure what is going on here, but my XP system is finding a 3rd drive which is a 'AXV CD/DVD-ROM ScSi Cdrom device'. The only thing I can figure is it has to do something with the zip drive.I have a cd burner and dvd burner also, both of which are detected and work correctly.I have tried to uninstall it but it keeps coming back. What could be causing this? My system suddenly just reboots when playing games now also. I have run spyware, antivirus and hijackthis to find something and nothing comes up. I'm thinking the sudden reboot is related.
i have use more than 10 disk of windows xp to format compaq pressario v3000.. when i press enter to format.. it shown that the hard drive is not installed. what should i do sir?

A user has snagged a toolbar that has no name but is termed ''Search toolbar'' in the Internet explorer Add-ons manager. Offers gambling porn etc. The initial link seems to have been http://thequicklink.com/.I got rid of this previously with AdAwareSE plus -- but not working this time. Also not listed as a program in the Add/Remove programs. It keeps trying to lock itself in by setting ''NoBandCustomize'' to Value = 1 in the Registry, which AdAware is blocking.I have been thru all the users disabling this pest, and unchecking 'Install on Demand' in the Advanced tab of Internet Options. But it is still in there somewhere. The above driver kmaph.dll is associated with it in the Add-ons Manager. It is in Windows/system32. Is this driver malware? Should i delete it (with no bad effect)?
i have a problem with my cd-rom, i asked a technician to re-format my laptop it is a acer aspire 3620. all other parts of the systems works normally but then my cd-rom is not functioning the comp cant read the cd-rom.. it does not even show on the computer system.
Although a systems check says my cd/dvd drive is installed and working fine, neither winamp or Sonic DigitalMedia LE detect a suitable drive when commanded to burn a disc.
I have windows xp installed in my pc,but for last 2 days my pc isn't detecting dvd drive in my computer but its there in bios setup.I tried all the techniques posted here but none of them worked..what i did,i installed xp in another drive and now its showing the dvd drive. So anyone could help me out to detect my dvd drive in the initial case.
This one has me baffled. My DVD/CD drive is no longer detected in the Bios of my Asus A8V Motherboard. I have it attached as the Primary Slave and the Bios says that it's not detected. It used to be, how else would I have installed XP. The drive works fine for burning Cd's and DVD's and shows up as working normally in Device Manager. Any thoughts?
I get an error on the boot and it tells me that the hard drive can't be detected. then just goes to a blinking curser on a blank black screen.I looked in the bios and read what other forums wrote and things seem to be set correctly.I did switch it to enable UEFI Boot and that just made it to where I can't get into the BIOS Settings now.I am running xp and am connected to a central server.I have only had the pc for a year with no major problems.I can't get a hold of my IT guy since it is the weekend.
have tried 1.6ghz 512mb xp pro sp2 and 1.2ghz 512mb memory 256mb graphics memory xp home sp2 drive is 250gb maxtor. the situation is if i have it in my external HDD enclosure it assigns a drive letter but i get " the device is not ready" error if i attempt to access it and if i put in my main computer as a slave drive it is detected during boot but not in windows.can anyone help me i tried deleteing the driver and having windows redetect but no luck.it might be unrelated but delayed write failure keep happening on g:/$mft and g:/$bmp.
Recently I opened up my computer to take the dust out of it as I have before. I hadent done so in a long time so there was some caked on dust on some components. I took the RAM out an cleaned it, re-installed it. I also took my vidoe card out because the heat sink had been cloged with dust aswell. After putting everything back and restarting my computer I recived this msg before windows start up. Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEMand it followed with instruction to use the xp setup disk to repair the problem. so I threw the windows CD in, and tried to repair however the program tells me I have no hard drive installed. Which I do since my computer is 3 years old now and has been working fine. I hadent changed any bios settings, I never disconnected the hard dirve either.
I downloaded something from Microsoft, dont remember what, could have been the latest browser version, and when I did now I have to sign in my user account even tho I am the only person that uses this computer. I have XP Home and utilize Automatic Update function. I never use a password to sign on to my computer like some people do. I do not feel competent to go into the registery, so hope that will not be nessessary. JB
My bothers new computer (two months old) is doing something strange. Every time it boots up, loads windows The C:Program Filesintel directory pops up on the screen. He has an intel Motherboard, and Pentium 4 3.0. I checked first the startup folder, nothing there that I could see would access that folded. I then ran msconfig just to see if anything else was showing that directory. Still nothing. Then I download some startup manager from download.com (I cant remember the exact name of it) but it showed me the same thing I had seen before, and nothing that pointed to the Intel directory. (Some pointed to the intel Audio directory, but that directory exists).I do know after I ran msconfig I went into safe mode and the directory didnt start up. But when I booted back into Windows XP Pro again it showed up?Anybody know what else I can do? I wonder if I change the name of the directory, wouldnt that throw an error and maybe I can figure out what it trying to access it?
I have an NEC laptop with Windows XP. I ran C-cleaner today and under the 'Tools' section, found in the 'Uninstall' section several strange programs that I have never installed. I don't know whether to remove them or leave them as they are. I've had the experience of deleting some mystery programs off my old computer and then finding that something or other couldn't run, so I'm deathly afraid that the same thing will happen on my laptop. I'll list out my NEC laptop mystery program names here.
what these programs are and whether to uninstall or leave them? Here they are:
1. AppCore 2. AV 3. ccCommon 4. CP2101 USB to UART Bridge Controller 5. Internet Worm Protection (could this be part of the trial version of Norton Antivirus on my comouter?) 6. SPBBC 32bit 7. SymNet
Also, I've checked other forums that say the following programs (which I didn't install but are on my Programs to Remove list in CCleaner) are harmless, but I just want to make sure they really are. Here is the list: 1. CameraDrivers 2. Director 3. QFolder 4. SkinsHP1 5. SkinsHP2 6. TIxx21/x515 7. TrayApp 8. Unload 9. WebFldrs XP 10. WebReg
I encountered a weird problem while booting up my computer after being away for a month. When logging into any XP account (including administrator and additional new accounts with administrator access), I encounter a mystery dialog box which contains nothing other than "yes" and "no" buttons. This box pops up after the system accepts my password. I can tell all bootup processes are still happening in the background but if I press either yes or no buttons, the account logs off and I am back to the login screen. I would really appreciate it if anyone can tell me how to figure out what is launching the mystery dialog box or how to read the log file to find the problem point.
I just reinstalled windows and the CD that I could have swore kept the Mobo drivers on it isn't responding to the machine. I there anyway to either find out what the mystery sound drivers are to install them, or get the make and model of the Mobo without cracking open the box? I know there is software out there that does it.
I tried to change the start button text just now (following the instructions here: http://www.theeldergeek.com/change_s...utton_text.htm) but I ended up not liking it because the search function was rendered unusable. Anyway, I read that there was another way to do it by just renaming the original explorer.exe (to something like ORIGINALexplorer.exe) and replacing it with the modified version (now named, explorer.exe) and putting that in C:/Windows. This way, there's no need to go into the registry and the search function is still usable.
We have 2 users both connected to a corporate 2003 AD Domain. One user has a printer shared out, but the other is always prompted for a password when trying to install it. The odd thing is, the username listed in the prompt is someone elses. Related problem...the user account referenced in the prompt is locked out everyday. Further research reveals there are bad logon attempts made throughout the day on this same PC, even when no one is using it. Very odd and probably a poor description. Please ask for clarification on anything that's not clear.
My external drive has always been "E" and I have several desktop shortcuts that relate. Recently I inserted a flash drive containing home movies and after viewing and a reboot later I noticed that my external drive is now shown as "New Volume F". I would like to change it back to "E"
I've installed the new drive, formatted it two partitions, and installed my XP on the new drive. The old drive is still installed, and I can select which drive I am booting off of. Boot off the old drive, I'm on my old PC. Boot off the new one, I'm on the new.Only one of the XPs are active at a time. The other says it must be activated. So, at this point, I boot to the old, and (with this OS activated)run the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. I specify that I am saving the data on one of the drives in the PC. It runs and says it's successful. Then I boot off the new drive and (now with THIS OS activated) when I point the FAST to the directory where I saved the files, the wizard says there's no files there to load. I can see .dat files in the directory, but the wizard can't.
I had to use fdisk and format my hard drive for various reasons but I must have done something wrong I installed my operating system xp pro onto the hard drive but now when I go to my computer I find I have another drive called f:drive and this is now my major drive (the biggest) I still have c:drive but it is not very large so f:drive has become my main drive where my operating system and all files are. Apart from this my pc's working perfect, can this configuration do any harm if it can is their any way to make c:drive my main drive again?
I forgot to unplug my zip drive when replacing my fried hard drive, so the installation of the system OS was assigned "E drive".I had already partitioned it, and was able to install another version of XP on the other partition, thinking I could just delete the first one, but it didn't work. I can't install or uninstall anything because all the installation programs are looking for C to be the system partition, which it's not. If I can wipe out everything (no data to lose), and start over, it'd be easier, but I can't uninstall XP for the same reason. Any suggestions? I've already spent hours trying to find a solution, and it may be cheaper to buy another new hard drive.
I recently installed a new hard drive into a friends computer and installed XP Home. I ran all the updates and service packs.
I left later that day and let him install all his applications.
I got a call tonight from him saying he really screwed up and doesn't know what to do. I had to follow his thinking over the phone so I hope I get this all correct.
He had trouble loading the drivers for his HP printer. He would get an error saying that a C: empHP_WebRelease folder was missing. He did manage to figure out that for some reason when I installed XP it called the Boot drive "I" instead of "C"
I recently had to reinstall windows XP to get rid of spyware. When I restarted windows, I noticed that my drive letters were not right. For instance,my hard drive is letter (H) instead of C. My floppy drive is correct (A). How do I change the letter back to C for my hard drive?
I recently re-installed xp on my desktop after a long run with ubuntu. After installing XP, and getting everything together, it made the local disk G. Is it possible to change this to C? Without too much damage?
I installed a brand spanking new HDD into a machine. Used the XP setup disk to format the HDD and ran thru the complete installation. It as too late before I noticed that the boot drive was designated as F instead of C. I thought it had to do with the way the IDE cables or the power plug are sequenced inside, but apparently you cannot change the drive letter for the boot drive. It is not too late to re do the install, but how can I designate HDD as C instead of F.I don't even know why it would do that.Would there be any problems with keeping the boot drive as F instead of C?I am giving this PC to someone since I don't need it, but I have never had the boot drive other than C before.
I have a second hard drive installed on my computer. Lets call this F:My main hard drive, were I am running WXP SP2, Home Ed., and were my program files are kept. Lets Call this drive C:IP3, 733mhz, 384 mb, HOMEMADE. works well, very happy $5.99 OBO.I am filling up C: and have tons of room on F:. Can I put program files on F:, easily that my computer will recognize and be able to use effectivley and effciently? With out jack-ups? Yes I understand that this an imperfect world, but If I could do what I wish within this situation, I will be closer to.
Hope this all makes sense... To cut a long story short, i have ended up with 2 versions of XP on the same partition of my hard drive. I know this is always a bad idea but it wasn't me who did it! The person who installed both also partitoned my hard drive into two sections, 40gb and 20gb....so i now have XP pro and XP Home installed on the same partition. Anyway i used partition magic to merge the 2 sections together as it was confusing issues.
Basically- What i want to do is start fresh with one working version of Windows XP Pro on my computer. I've tried inserting the XP Pro CD and telling it to install a fresh copy, overwriting all other versions of windows- but it has only overwritten XP Home and i'm left with 2 versions of XP Pro, and my computer asks me which one i want to start on start-up. So how should i go about removing one of the versions? Would formatting my C-Drive do the trick, followed by installing XP Pro from the CD again?
In addition to my other posting here, I want to ask you professionals, if it is possible to mirror my existing hard drive onto a much larger hard drive? My partition C became way too small over the years, the Windows XP files have blown up their size. Partition D (which contains all installed programs) is still fine. But I was never able to use software like "Partition Magic" to adjust the space between these two partitions. So I might just have to buy a new hard drive. But I want - I even HAVE - to keep the installed XP the way it is now. Lots of software installed. So I wonder, if there is any way just to "mirror" the existing version of XP onto a new hard drive, and then just to exchange the old hard drive with the new one?
I have a 2nd hard drive installed on my computer and i noticed yesterday that everything on it except for one folder has been deleted everything from my music to my videos. However, when i check the properties of the hard drive it still shows that space is being taken up on that 2nd hard drive as if all my files are still there. I went into my itunes and tried to play the music i have on my 2nd hard drive through itunes and to my surprise it still plays which it shouldn't if the files had in fact been deleted.
I recently reinstalled XP Pro and my HDD drive letters are all screwed up. I hear you can remap the drives within Windows, but I'm not sure how. Is it possible? If not I'll just reinstall and unplug my storage drive and that'll solve the problem. System in question is in my signature.
