I get this error, Windows - No Disk There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive .
every time I start my computer. If I disable the devices under storage volume, generic volume, which I believe is my 8-1 card reader it doesn't give me this error. It hasn't always done this. It started recently.
When I start my non-brand PC with an MSI mobo I receive the following message:disk boot failure insert system disk and press enterAt first I thought it was the SATA hard drive but when hooked up to another machine I can see all the files. When I went into the Phoenix/Award Bios all the drives are IDE drives. Not an SATA drive option anywhere. The computer was working great for a number of years. I hooked a brand new SATA drive and the BIOS does not recognize the drive.

It just sits there. I installed a program last night and this has now happened. I do have a "Spotmau" recovery disk. But don't know how to get to restore.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI havent a clue what the problem can be. I went downstairs for 5-10 minutes after recently starting up my pc came back to the pc completely shut off. It seems to do it either sporadically when im away from it or using it for long periods of time. I recently installed a brand new power supply Ultra 400 watts ATX power supply. It seems to be getting worse with time. Im currently running disk defragmenter hoping this issue can be resolved soon. I have a bad feeling it may be my motherboard

What I am now trying is to get date and time off a server upon startup. The problem is windows xp won't synchronise with time servers if date does not match! For security reasons, windows can not synchronize with the server because your date does not match. Please fix the date and try again.

When trying to start XP Media Center 2005 in safe mode, it completes loading Mups.sys, the screen goes blank and flickers slightly like it's changing video modes, and i get a "BSOD"/blue screen (photo attached)The computer boots normally in XP when booted normally, and in Kubuntu 7.04/Feisty and Kubuntu 7.10/ Gutsy when booted normally and in recovery mode.I suspect the problem may have to do with the failed install of the Netscape Activex Wrapper Plugin from buzzen.com which (supposedly) lets Gecko-based browsers run Activex scripts intended for IE7, but I'm not sure as I haven't used safe mode in some time
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a problem that is more irritating than serious. Every time Windows XP starts a window opens displaying the contents of the folder Program Files. It doesn't take more than a second or two to close the window but I find it frustrating that I am unable to prevent it from happening. I suspect that the answer lies somewhere in the Register but I have no idea where.

Whenever I boot up the PC, 3 sessions of MS Word open - 2 sessions have a new (blank) document open, and the 3rd session just shows Word as being open (no new document).I went to Documents and Settings | Application Data | Microsoft | Word | Startup to see if there was anything in the folder prompting Word to open the 3 sessions. The folder was empty. I then clicked Start | Run | msconfig | Enter to see if Winword.exe is in the Startup folder. I thought I might see it in there 3 times – one for each of the Word sessions that are opening whenever I boot up the PC. Strangely enough, Winword.exe wasn’t in the Startup folder at all – not even once.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor a whole month now I have carefully set up the new notebook described below after successfully, but laboriously, running a 1997 Dell PII300-SCSI 128-SDRAM Win98SE system for 8 years. I've now reached a point where I need help on several issues from some of you who are far ahead of me when it comes to running a modern system. There are no major problems so far, just some minor performance issues and a few questions in areas in which I know little or nothing.
One instance of a freeze (when running Norton Speed Disk) which turned out to be a bad cluster and was repaired by ChkDsk. One instance of stalling @ the "windows is shutting down" window (shutdown only). There have been two instances of noticeable decline in peak performance: A.) after installing Norton System Works. I immediately uninstalled Go Back, which really helped, and B.) after replacing one of the installed 256mb sticks of RAM with a 1GB stick from Crucial. I only mention this because I deliberately delayed installation until maximium system performance had been consistently sustained. [This is nothing major, just a slight delay and/or menus briefly going blank when starting some programs and a slight delay in application reaction time, which usually manifests itself at the start of sessions, and late sluggishness in long sessions] I only mention this in the event that I'm wrong and can be corrected, because I believe this must be a coincidence and not due to the hardware (unless there is a setting or something in Windows that needs changing to accommodate the additional RAM) - and the solution to regaining peak performance lies in Windows and/or Norton System Works....

There is NO disk in the reader. If you hit any key the computer continues to boot "normal" It isn't a big problem, but a sign of something not being right.

Replace the disk and then press any key"I have already changed my BIOS so that it boots from the CD first. Not sure what the problem is? prior to that error message, it states that I should "press any key to boot from CD"...when I try to push a key nothing happens. I know my keyboard works since I used it to enter the BIOS.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently re-installed an old copy (4 years) of winxp home 32 bit (after my sp2 disks were giving me trouble.) There are 3 320gb hd's and 2 36gb raptors. I actually chose to install winxp home on one of the 320's but a couple of odd (to me) things happened. First, it formatted the 320's into two partitions, 1 equal to the other. I did not notice this at the time (I was in a hurry.) My winxp pro sp2 disks never did this. Second, it installed winxp on c: as I wanted but then it has "(System)" on e: (another 320gb split in two.) I found this in the disk management section.Frankly it runs great, but there are no files to be seen on the e: drive. I back up my c: drive regularly and I am wanting to know if something will be amiss with the backup because that (System) disk is on e?I've just never seen this "(System)" disk thing before.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently had to move up to WinXP Home on a Compaq Presario after saying goodbye to my trusty Packard Bell running Win95a.My WinXP Home came preinstalled on the computer and I had no WinXP Home CD Disk as a backup. I contacted Compaq and they immediately sent me a set of Backup Disks in case the 'System Restore' on the computer wasn't available for one reason or the other.I have yet to put them into the computer to see what they consist of. I am not experiencing any problems and I don't want to create any by doing something I am not sure of.I am just curious is this set of disks is what I would use if I had to reinstall WinXP Home?
