Mar 23, 2010I have a dwsktop vaio When I boot from cold it does not find hard drive. I get an error message Disk boot failure Insert system disk and press enter. If I restart the computer and go into the bios it does not show the hard drive but when I come out of the bios it then boots up.It will only bootup if I go into the bios first?

May 7, 2005I'd gladly search the archives if I only knew what to call this!Several months ago I requested a feature that prompted W2000 to request that I re-insert the install disk. I did so, but the feature/dll/driver whatever it was (I forget) was not on the disk.Now, whenever I start my machine it stubbornly requests that I insert the install disk. I installed a cool little startup utility by Mike Lin, but am not sure what to turn off.

May 15, 2007I have given my 40GB ATA HDD to my friend to fetch some movies he has got in his 160GB SATA HDD. He configured my HDD as secondary master and copied all the movies to mine. Later he removed my HDD and rebooted the system to find that his HDD isn't booting up. He says that his HDD isn't being detected in the BIOS. The well known error message "No bootable device found. Insert system disk and press Enter" appears every time he tries to boot his system. What can the solution other than formatting?( Formatting isn't favourable as there is critical data in the HDD).

Dec 22, 2005my PC has started rebooting without any seeming rhyme or reason -- and each time it restarts the disc check finds unhappy things.at first i thought the crashes were because of system overload -- too many programs running and/or tasks i was having it do all at once. with no applications running - and it'll blip out and reboot all on its own. more than once.i know there isn't a virus; i run norton and i also went digging, just to be sure. i also finally had it checked out; they couldn't find anything specific. i've stripped about all i can think of from my start-up and have removed software i like but don't have to have, trying to make it easier on the computer.the 'crash' doesn't give any warnings or errors. my computer simply does a restart.

I click No and it directs me to a site that tries to get me to download the software. If I let the page run, the computer becomes disfuctional, and I have to use task manager to close programs and get the computer to respond. I've tried using system restore, adaware SE professional, and Symantec Antivirus to get rid of whatever this may be. Nothing is working. I'm not sure what to do at this point

Feb 16, 2007Recently went to Windows XP web site to check for updates. Found 2 "Hardware Updates: 1.ALPS pointing device and 2.Storage-primary IDE channel.(don't have a pointing device on my desktop) Tried to download updates on both desktop and notebook computers.Immediately got warnings from my virus software and computers crashed. Tried to reboot and got message that the registry was corrupted. I used Acronis to restore hard drive images and all is well now, but can anyone explain this? Don't know whether this was a virus or whether the downloads caused the crash but I trusted Microsoft.

Jun 10, 2007first i get the HP blue screen. I tried F1, but i dont see my hard drive in the boot menu. I followed some steps in Hp's web site- took the cpu apart and unplugged both hard drives from the motherboard, plugged them back in. when i restarted ,i got the HP screen and then windows started to load up. After a few seconds the HP screen came back up and then the black screen: sk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter. I also noticed that pressing F10 for system recovery does nothing.

What I am now trying is to get date and time off a server upon startup. The problem is windows xp won't synchronise with time servers if date does not match! Jul 27, 2007When trying to start XP Media Center 2005 in safe mode, it completes loading Mups.sys, the screen goes blank and flickers slightly like it's changing video modes, and i get a "BSOD"/blue screen (photo attached)The computer boots normally in XP when booted normally, and in Kubuntu 7.04/Feisty and Kubuntu 7.10/ Gutsy when booted normally and in recovery mode.I suspect the problem may have to do with the failed install of the Netscape Activex Wrapper Plugin from buzzen.com which (supposedly) lets Gecko-based browsers run Activex scripts intended for IE7, but I'm not sure as I haven't used safe mode in some time
