so i get my laptop from my brother who was borrowing it and i see in the start menu that there is a little icon that flashes from a blue and white question mark into the red circle with one line symbol. when highlighted it says Critical System Error!. i click on it and it pops up a page for me to download some antimalware or something. idk what's going on so i'm doing an ewido scan and i did a hijackthis log

I keep getting this Warning message every time I try to open a folder. Attention, some dangerous viruses detected in your system. Microsoft Windows XP Files corrupted. I click No and it directs me to a site that tries to get me to download the software. If I let the page run, the computer becomes disfuctional, and I have to use task manager to close programs and get the computer to respond. I've tried using system restore, adaware SE professional, and Symantec Antivirus to get rid of whatever this may be. Nothing is working. I'm not sure what to do at this point

I ran my up-to-date antispyware program (spy sweeper) and antivirus (norton), and while it did get rid of a few things, the message still pops up.
Clicking on the popup takes me to the site in the attachment.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy operating system is "Windows xp professional" with 512 Mb ram.A program came from internet which every two or three minutes opens a small window (baloon) saying "critical system error" and "system detects virus activities get antimalware software to fix the problem" and then "click this baloon to get all available software" If you click the baloon it sends you to an internet adress "http//www.virusburst.com" There they try to sell me a program called "Virusburst".My system seems to work fine though.

The little red shield appears in the system tray and a warning saying that my Norton Anti-virus software is not working and I am not protected. However after a short while this disappears.I think it has something to do with the order the initial TSRs etc. are loaded during the boot-up process, as once the Norton icon appears in the system tray the red shield disappears. I got a score of 675 out of a possible 720, but the yellow flag was on the internet ("adjust your IE cache") connection. THEN, a little window popped up and here's what it says:

I experiance this problem mostly when i'm gaming so it makes me think that whats causing it could be an overheating issue. anyway in the middle of a game the computer will just restart and when windows loads it says Windows has just recovered from a critical error.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI booted up my computer and left it running for a while I noticed I got a Low virtual memory warning. So I opened up task manger and saw the my PF usage was extremely high (around 1.5 GB) and I didn't have anything open or running. Then I restarted it and had the same problem later. After a while some times it will render the computer useless as I can't get anything to run as its so slow. Even as I'm typing this message my PF usage is slowly increasing. I also notice that my "Handles" are slowly increasing too. All that I've done to the computer recently is install a Dynex Wireless G USB adapter. I dont think it's the cause of the problem because when I take the USB adpater out the computer and leave it running.

I ran a whole slew of antivirus stuff and killed off a bunch of nasty buggers, but the message didn't go away.I went to Display Properties and there were only two tabs, Screen Savers, and Settings. It was missing the Appearance, Themes, and Desktop tabs. So I went on here and found something about changing the registry files from 1 to 0 in a couple places. Well I got the tabs back, but I still cannot change my desktop background. It's all greyed out. My computer is functioning fine now and is armed to the teeth against new stuff, but it still has that annoying BSOD look-a-like.

When I try and "Duplicate Now" it starts and then I receive another error, "Duplicating error!! The array is not functional."If I ignore the error message and continue to boot the system (XP Pro) it cotinues to boot normally. Recently went to Windows XP web site to check for updates. Found 2 "Hardware Updates: 1.ALPS pointing device and 2.Storage-primary IDE channel.(don't have a pointing device on my desktop) Tried to download updates on both desktop and notebook computers.Immediately got warnings from my virus software and computers crashed. Tried to reboot and got message that the registry was corrupted. I used Acronis to restore hard drive images and all is well now, but can anyone explain this? Don't know whether this was a virus or whether the downloads caused the crash but I trusted Microsoft.

Press Retry to retry or Cancel to cancel." when I try to download data from a data provider. My internet connection is running perfectly normal and have also confirmed that my settings are as per the data providers recommendations. This is also not a firewall matter as I have enabled this software to download from the internet before. How can I check that this is not a windows problem and that Windows and the software is in synch?

Six messages - unable to repair, access denied, auto deleted, unable to repair, access denied, auto deleted. Followed removal info but the values mentioned were not in the registry and nothing found in the scan. A few days later Norton found 3 infected files of trojan languard.exe. It's in the registry but I don't dare delete it from there as XP came installed on my pc and doesn't seem to have backup utility.
