Hardware Updates: Warning From Antivirus / System Crashed?

Recently went to Windows XP web site to check for updates. Found 2 "Hardware Updates: 1.ALPS pointing device and 2.Storage-primary IDE channel.(don't have a pointing device on my desktop) Tried to download updates on both desktop and notebook computers.Immediately got warnings from my virus software and computers crashed. Tried to reboot and got message that the registry was corrupted. I used Acronis to restore hard drive images and all is well now, but can anyone explain this? Don't know whether this was a virus or whether the downloads caused the crash but I trusted Microsoft.

I clicked on the Icon for windows updates on my PC, and after the updates were done, my PC will not boot up.I keep getting one of those blue screens with one of those wonderful error messages.I have tried doing a system restore, several times, but it will not even let me do that

I need some real help here because I am baffled. I installed Panda Titanium antivirus 2005 on my bosses computer. When I went to restart it after the install it wouldn't restart it would get stuck at the blue welcome screen. Tried booting it into safe mode and it wouldn't even boot there. So finally I had to use the Windows XP disk and do a recovery. Well when I did that she lost all of her applications. I had to reload Office, Adobe, and it said that the Panda Antivirus was not installed correctly.So I tired to reinstall it and I get an error of Class not registered.I hoping not to have to do format and reinstall Windows Xp but I think there is some corruption in the computer.

I am running a Dell PIII 800 mhz, with 80 G hard drive and XP SP 2. I recently downloaded a program from Handango.com for my wife's PDA called "Body Pro Desktop 2005". Soon after installing this program, the following problems occurred:
1. Norton Antivirus 2006 crashed.
2. Body Pro would not run.
3. Cannot reinstall Norton Antivirus.
4. Cannot download updates for my Spybot S&D (bad checksum error).

Last night my PC said it was installing'needed' updates, when it go t the point it was going to reboot, it hung up.
After quite awhile I manually re-booted it, and now it only gets to the first two lines in the boot sequence and hangs again. F9 for express recovery and other options do nothing.
BTW It doesn't recognize my floppy or CD ROM so booting from CD it not an option. I do have a full install CD of XP Pro though.

Yesterday I had 560 MB's of free space on Drive C, today I suddenly received a low disk warning. I had 163 MB's remaining, then a few minutes later I had 90 MB's. I searched Drive C for files/folders over 1 MB that had been modified in the last week and there were a half dozen huge files that were part of a Windows XP update it was trying to install. I turned off the automatic updates so I can do them manually from now on, but can I do anything about those files that were modified today to free up space? One of them is marked a temporary file - can I delete it?

My computer is only about 4 months old and I do not have it set to receive automatic updates. It seemed, with my last computer, the updates created more problems than they were worth. Does anyone have an opinion on how important it is to get these updates or am I just as well off not receiving them? The last time I checked to see what updates were available it appeared Microsoft even said that some of them could create problems.

I'm really desesperate to figure this problem out. My computer keeps shouting down without even a simple warning. The BIG problem is none other than this: My exames are aproaching like real fast and me and my colegues are all using our school PC's and whatnot. my PC has started rebooting without any seeming rhyme or reason -- and each time it restarts the disc check finds unhappy things.at first i thought the crashes were because of system overload -- too many programs running and/or tasks i was having it do all at once. with no applications running - and it'll blip out and reboot all on its own. more than once.i know there isn't a virus; i run norton and i also went digging, just to be sure. i also finally had it checked out; they couldn't find anything specific. i've stripped about all i can think of from my start-up and have removed software i like but don't have to have, trying to make it easier on the computer.the 'crash' doesn't give any warnings or errors. my computer simply does a restart.

I keep getting this Warning message every time I try to open a folder. Attention, some dangerous viruses detected in your system. Microsoft Windows XP Files corrupted. This may lead to the destruction of important files in C: WINDOWS. Download protection software now! Click OK to download the antispyware. (Recommended). I click No and it directs me to a site that tries to get me to download the software. If I let the page run, the computer becomes disfuctional, and I have to use task manager to close programs and get the computer to respond. I've tried using system restore, adaware SE professional, and Symantec Antivirus to get rid of whatever this may be. Nothing is working. I'm not sure what to do at this point

so i get my laptop from my brother who was borrowing it and i see in the start menu that there is a little icon that flashes from a blue and white question mark into the red circle with one line symbol. when highlighted it says Critical System Error!. i click on it and it pops up a page for me to download some antimalware or something. idk what's going on so i'm doing an ewido scan and i did a hijackthis log

I have winXP pro , and when I start them after I see desktop, I get warning message, telling me that my computer is unsafe, that someone else can see my files, and to follow remove instruction. Link forwards me to a web page with "antispyware software", but problem is still there. I've noticed that this is a screen that appears over my desktop and I'm unable to move it or tu turn it down. Task manager shows no application running.

I'm on my friends computer right now due to the fact that mine has crashed since this morning. I come home from school to find that I am out fo windows and theres a message on my screen stating that my system32 file is corrupted. I have a cd that came with my computer and I can get into command prompt dos through it. Is there a way to fix this to just to redo the system32 file through dos instead of having me have to lose all of my work and reinstall windows.

My norton antivirus kept pushing up warnings about mail not to go out.I tried to run a scan with norton antivirus and it kept locking up , so I uninstalled it and tried to reinstall it but it would not allow it to install.I uninstalled it again and downloaded rising antivirus and that froze up. I have a hp a530n 3200+ (2.00GHz) AMD Athlon 64 bit processor 1 GIG DDR SDRAM memory, Windows XP. I cannot access the tax program now . When I try system restore it just freezes up. I am not allowed in the help program. The computer is super slow in normal mode. I am running safe mode right now

System crashed last night with a Kernel Stack Inpage Error, but restarted fine ... while diagnosing, I tried to get in to Disk Management through Admin Tools/Computer Management, and received the error, "Unable to connect to Logical Disk Manager service". I checked, and the service was disabled (why?), so I set it for manual and restarted it, still received the error.Oddly, I was able to start it from a command prompt, which then allowed it to start from Admin Tools. What just happened here? Is that service normally disabled? If not, what would cause it to become disabled? Could a virus, worm, or rootkit have snuck in?

i have installed a toptheme program before and added a new theme to my desktop and the toptheme program has given me a trial period and ... after the period has expired, i uninstall it.. and ... everything in my desktop cant be access such as my computer... some dll file cant found ... i restart my comp .. uxtheme.dll cant be found ... and i just can see a plain wallpaper without any icon and the start menu bar is not display... tried it on save mode ... same ~.... help !!! realli need help ... thanks !!!

The last windows update that I can see is KB 905474 and was downloaded by my automatic updates.I can see it when going to windows updates/view history. Trouble is, I cannot see it in my add/remove list. does auto updates only download security updates and I assume I dont have to do anything.

I have a new ECS 755-A2 board with a new Sempron CPU and a evga FX5200 AGP card. Nothing exotic or cutting edge. Everything seems to work OK, I can do all my normal tasks, everything looks great. New HDs, new PS, new install of XP Pro SP2. I can work for a couple of hours with no problems of any kind.At some point after just a few minutes of user inactivity, however, anything on the screen that happens to be moving, such as an animated "progress" bar, freezes for a second or two, then the screen goes black and the system crashes hard until reset/reboot. It's not merely the monitor going black, it's a full system lockup. If I have streaming audio going, say, it will stop at the same time. The system is fully crashed. IDE light is on permanently until reset. Keyboard input is ineffective.

Now when I start XP I get the option to load a previous version of windows or (default) install the new OS As I say the second option comes up as default and gives barely 2 seconds to select the first option and continue with starting the computer How can I eradicate the option to install the new OS?

I'm going to try a system restore and I need to close all open programs. Does this mean I need to close Norton Antivirus, Spybot and Ad-Aware too? What about programs that run in the background that you don't see? I've never worried about this when installing software--just left them running--but I don't want to mess up with system restore. I have lots of disc space and plenty of memory, if this makes any difference.

My laptop has broke due to HDD and other things so im currently using my computer. It was working fine untill i tryed to turn it on this morning it turned on fine then crashed so i restarted it. It then loaded up normally with the "ACER" logo and options below (F2 for bios, F12 for boot menu and ALT + F10 for recovery thing) but it doesnt go any further, i can go into the bios , i can go into the boot menu and select a boot device and i can press the buttons for the erecovery but they all just go onto a black screen and i dont understand
