For some reason my computer will not show new programs installed when you go to, Start, All Programs, tabs, however, the programs are installed and you can see them when you use explore and follow the path to the program. Can the page be to full to show all the programs or what?

My new hard drive w/windows XP newly installed won't boot as a stand alone without my old windows ME hard drive in the PC. Plus, the XP installation is not working right, it won't allow me to install new software, for one thing, so I just assume go back to using only my windows ME hard drive but I can't get rid of the message at boot up of which operating sytemI want to use,even when I took out the window XP hard drive and restored an older version of my windows ME registry on the other hard drive.

It's running fine now, but everytime I install a new program, when I restart the machine, all the newly installed programs' folders pop up (e.g. showing the uninstall and help links in the program's particular folder; it usually happens with new software just the once) - and it's getting ridiculous. I have to close each folder one by one.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted my computer, after getting a virus and deciding that the effort it would take to salvage my computer wasn't worth it.Prior to getting a virus on my computer, it was very fast and didn't have problems with RAM or memory. After reformatting, however, my computer is very slow despite not having installed even 10 programs.It's not slow in that the computer is laggy (though it is sometimes, but that's not really something that concerns me), but that programs take very long to load. For instance, I'll open up Firefox, and Windows Task Manager shows the memory usage of firefox.exe increasing by increments of 50. So it'll take 2/3 minutes to open.In addition, installing new programs takes much much much longer than they should. For instance, it took me nearly an hour and a half to install a trial version of Photoshop CS3, only for it in the end to have a problem telling me to reinstall it. Windows Update took very long as well (nearly half a day!)
I haven't done anything different to this newly reformatted computer except for one thing the first thing that I did when I reformatted my computer was to install Trend Micro Anti-Virus, from a trial that I found online.I do know that prior to installing that program, my computer wasn't too slow at all... But sometime afterwards, it became very sluggish. I don't know if the issue relates at all to the antivirus program itself, but I thought you should know that my computer didn't start out slow.
I have Xp and i just installed a bunch of new programs and when i go into the start all programs menu there all highlighted in that orange tint and even after clicking the shortcuts they still stay like that is there a way how to get rid of it

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a gateway notebook running Windows XP. There are 2 user accounts, each with administrative rights. I recently installed SP2, defragged the hard drive, and cleaned up some spyware and adware with spybot and adaware. I am also running Norton Anti-Virus and all definitions are up-to-date. (This is my college daughter's computer). All ran fine after doing this, but after the next boot, the taskbar completely disappeared. I was finally able to get it back, but only by selecting the quick launch toolbar. If I deselect the quick launch tool bar, the whole taskbar goes away. The real problem is that programs no longer show up on the taskbar when they are opened (Word, Excel, IE, Trillian, etc). And, if I open a program, and then minimize it, it goes away completely as though it were closed, but if I open task manager, the application is still running. I have to close the applications from task manager. The really odd thing is that this is only happening on one of the user accounts (my daughter's). The other user account is functioning normally. Short of creating an additional user account or using system restore and starting all over, does anyone have any ideas on how to repair this?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI find that certain programs show up blank boxes,instead of the icons which are supposed to be there. For example when I click on Mcafee antivirus software, it opens up a blank box. I can't remove it through 'add remove programs' because when i click 'remove' on it another blank box pops up,which is actually supposed to have the 'uninstall' icon. The same is the case with System restore. I cant do a system restore because nothing comes up when i click on it except a blank box. I do not know what other programs would have this kind of problem. Please help me resolve this issue.

If I click on yes or no, in regard to showing all users, I still can't get to the window that shows the programs running. I don't know how this happened, but I did install a new external hard drive. If I go to explore I see all of my programs on the c: drive but none of them appear on the start menu, I also see old user names and our documents but can only access them in explore. i tried to copy ms office to the start menu via drag and drop, but when i try to open application it says it is not installed for user.how do i get to my programs in this new installation? I failed to repair my older c:windows XP folder and installed new c:windows2 folder. I would like to use my installed programs in the older windows which i can see in the programs folder. What do i need to do to get them working on the new folder without reinstalling them. When done do I just delete the old windows folder to save space on my hard drive.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi put together a system the other day after my old one totally pooped out on me. i installed the hard drive from my old system into the new one as a second hard drive, and installed xp pro onto a different hard drive (primary master) in the new system.
how can i use all my old programs that are installed on the old hard drive without confusing the heck out of xp? many of the applications on the old hdd are confused when i run them, i am guessing because when they reference files in locations where they think they should be, but they are not finding them. i don't even have enough room on the primary master drive to install all the programs, its a very small drive. nor do i have enough room to fit xp onto the second hard drive.
Can someone please tell me how can I launch throughout a work station a program that is installed in a server?
In other words, I need to install all mt programs in a server and only launch on my work station so I do not corrupt the server and I don't have to reinstall all programs on a new work station.

I ran a bunch of different spyware removal tools and now whe nI try to play swat-4 TSS I have the most terrible lag in the world. Played this game for a yr with NO problems. Lag problem started after I ran those programs. I am curious if the spyware removal proggies didn't take a file or two that I need for internet connection.I know there was somewhere in win 98 that I could check windows for missing corrupt window files and have them replaced and or repaired can you do that with XP and how do I get there ?
