Feb 18, 2006I successfully upgraded my Gateway from ME to XP Home editions the service paks, except there is a problem with my audio. The audio is scratchy and barely audible when I startup. When I "uncheck" the box "1 speaker digital" in the volume control menu, the sound is works fine not loud enough but ok. The problem is that when I shut down or researt the computer, that checkbox defaults with a check mark and next startup. Gateway says there is a conflict with the sound card and the hard drive and suggested that I download a driver I ALREADY had on there.I have been on the phone for almost one week with Microsoft, and they cannot seem to fix the problem either.

Dec 2, 2007I know this seems like I lot to read, but bear with me please, it needs explaining (or at least I think so.)in all seriousness, here's the situation: I'm running Windows XP SP2 on a Dell Dimension 3000. Prior to this problem, I had been getting blue screened rather frequently with some page about a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error (or something along those lines). It told me that I should uninstall any new software/hardware to resolve the problem, and something about sysaudio.sys and another audio-related file at the bottom. I can't remember exactly, I haven't had the problem for a couple days now. Below that, it said "Beginning dump of physical memory to disk" with a timer counting up, as most blue screens do. I just ignored this screen any time I ran into it and rebooted, seeing as I hadn't installed any new hardware or software that I could think of.

Sep 11, 2005reinstalled xp b/c of massive problems, i think i installed it overtop of my old installation, i can finally get into windows, but none of my programs are there. If I go to explore I see all of my programs on the c: drive but none of them appear on the start menu, I also see old user names and our documents but can only access them in explore. i tried to copy ms office to the start menu via drag and drop, but when i try to open application it says it is not installed for user.how do i get to my programs in this new installation? I did not delete any partitions when i reinstalled. Is there any awy to access the old user names?

Aug 22, 2005I failed to repair my older c:windows XP folder and installed new c:windows2 folder. I would like to use my installed programs in the older windows which i can see in the programs folder. What do i need to do to get them working on the new folder without reinstalling them. When done do I just delete the old windows folder to save space on my hard drive.

Jul 9, 2005i put together a system the other day after my old one totally pooped out on me. i installed the hard drive from my old system into the new one as a second hard drive, and installed xp pro onto a different hard drive (primary master) in the new system.
how can i use all my old programs that are installed on the old hard drive without confusing the heck out of xp? many of the applications on the old hdd are confused when i run them, i am guessing because when they reference files in locations where they think they should be, but they are not finding them. i don't even have enough room on the primary master drive to install all the programs, its a very small drive. nor do i have enough room to fit xp onto the second hard drive.

Jun 5, 2005I was checking my daughters pc for some usual maintenance. The start programs on list suddenly dont open, computer freezes up, did the error-checking but I cannot seem to get some vital prgrams to open up. I am running a couple of recent worm tools from Symantec and so far, nothing. Could this be a hardware problem or can someone tell me something I am missing?

Sep 27, 2010I've installed the new drive, formatted it two partitions, and installed my XP on the new drive. The old drive is still installed, and I can select which drive I am booting off of. Boot off the old drive, I'm on my old PC. Boot off the new one, I'm on the new.Only one of the XPs are active at a time. The other says it must be activated.
So, at this point, I boot to the old, and (with this OS activated)run the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. I specify that I am saving the data on one of the drives in the PC. It runs and says it's successful. Then I boot off the new drive and (now with THIS OS activated) when I point the FAST to the directory where I saved the files, the wizard says there's no files there to load. I can see .dat files in the directory, but the wizard can't.

Feb 18, 2007we had to remove Visual Studio 2005...when uninstalling VS it tells you to unistall portions in order...we did that and now nothing is listed in Add/Remove Programs relating to VS at all...however, in the start menu there is MS SQL Server 2005 configuration tools...when you reboot windows xp you get an error saying SQL Server could not start...well, we don't want SQL Server 2005 on there and are trying to remove it but it is not listed in Add/Remove at all...can't find anything relating to this at all.how do we remove SQL Server 2005 configuration tools?
