Security Tab In File Properties Doesnt Show

Desktop Properties Doesnt Show Up
Jul 27, 2005When I right click on desktop and choose Properties, nothing happens.When I go to control panel/appearance and themes and click on anything,nothing opens (except folder options and "Taskbar and Start Menu" ) The
only way I can change wallpaper is by right clicking on an image and selecting set as wallpaper, but I cant do anything else without properties.
Context Menu Disabled / Properties Box Doesnt Work
Mar 10, 2007a while ago something went wrong with my computer im not sure if its spyware or just something changed my settings. I use Spybot S&D and Ad-aware and Norton Antivirus and have completed scans for all of them. The context menu (right click) does not work on files in Windows Explorer or on the desktop, but works in Start menu, web browser, etc.Also I cannot access Properties for files. I have tried going through File >> Properties, but the Properties box never appears after I have clicked the link.At the same time of this problem my system restore suddenly disabled itself and will not let me enable it (System restore encountered problems trying to enable/disable system restore on one of your drives. Please restart your machine and try again).I have logged on in a different account and the context menu and properties work, so it only seems to be in my account.

Apr 20, 2006I had a problem with my windows. When ever I plug in my Flash drive (i got a few: kingston data traveller 1gig, pendrive 128mb,etc) onto my usb port. Window will be able to detect the drive had been plug in. I can see the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the right side of my task bar. But i cannot see the drive appearing in "My Computer". If I double click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon and try to view the external drive information, I can see that its already detected and being assign with drive E: . Even if I open a windows explorer and type in E: , it will throw me an error "Cannot find 'file:///E:/'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct". But if I were to restart my computer, then i can see it for the first time. If I disconnect it (thru the "Safely Remove Hardware") and plug it back in (or plug another flash drive), I cant see the external drive. Causing I had to restart my computer multiple time a day.

Aug 23, 2007My PC is running absolutely stable (7 hours of orthos). Just bought this EVGA motherboard and swapped it in place of an Asrock motherboard and got everything running, overclocked and stable.Before I got Windows XP running (previous installation from the asrock mobo), I encountered an issue and i isolated it down to one of the 200gb 7200.7 SATA HD's.IF this HD is plugged in when the PC boots, then the Windows XP Boot screen appears and hangs. NOTE: it DOES NOT freeze - the bar still moves, but there is no HD activity and the pc stays like this for hours on end. Note again - this is not a hang. the activity bar still moves from left to right, and it keeps doing this indefinitely it seems (with no HD activity from any drives). IF this HD is not plugged in, the PC boots in straight away. All drivers are tip top (nforce drivers, SATA drivers). However if I hot-plug this drive from within Windows, it works fine!. The PC just doesn't boot with the HD plugged in.

Jan 26, 2005Recently I reinstalled XP Home Edition and XP Pro using a slipstreamed installation disk contain SP2 and the latest hotfixes. Following those installations I found that I could not easily access any Drive Image (pqi) files that were created under the newly installed operating systems. The images could be restored but only after booting from the Drive Image rescue floppies. I also was not able to open and explore any of those images using Drive Image ImageExplorer. Images created prior to these installation could be opened and restored within windows with Drive Image. To access the images created under the new OS installation I had start the Home Edition in the safe mode and the go the image file, right click and select security. Then I had to add my user name under services and then check full control. In the XP Pro system I had to disable simple file protection and then change the security settings in a similar manner. This all had to be done even though the user has full administrator rights. I've been using Drive Image 2002 for the last 2 years for backups on both Home Edition and Pro versions of XP so this behavior is something I believe is new an possible a result of security updates included in the new installations. I really need access to these images from within windows but I also need to retain simple files sharing on my XP Pro machine.

Dec 7, 2008I was clicking around, trying to reduce the security setting in Windows in order to download a needed .exe file. Can't remember what I did but now a dialogue box opens for every .exe file I try to use. This brought to my attention the regsvr32.exe file that looks like its not supposed to be in the system32 folder and could be malware. issues: turning off the dialogue box that opens everytime i open a program and identifying and deleting malware especially the regsvr32.exe.I notice the regsvr32 isn't listed as a running process in the HJT log - because I cancelled it in the dialogue box instead of allowing it to run. Which is a good thing. I'd like to return to normal and disable the open file dialoge box, but remove regsvr32 first so it doesn't run automatically.
