Damaged File / PROGRAM FILE DOESNT HAVE A NAME BUT USES AN ID
Feb 6, 2005
I have a file damaged in my Windows, i dont know if i need it or i should repair it and even how to, but i was hoping someone can lead me in the right direction. The file is in my downloaded program files Windows/system32/IUCTL.DLL, THE PROGRAM FILE DOESNT HAVE A NAME BUT USES AN ID
Back at Christmas of 2002 I transfered all my files with a intellimover program. I found these files while clicking the Tools button on my browser window, Internet Options from there and then View Objects. The first thing in this downloaded list is a filed listed as and it says that it is damaged. It also has a date on it that is before my transfere. This file came from a HP Windows98 computer to my now Dell XP WIndows. It's only 4kb. It also says it was accessed today for some reason. Is my computer really using this file? Is this a file I need. I think its a windows update thing but now sure.
i have 1 desktop and 1 laptop. The laptop shows file extensions at the end of every file, but the desktop doesnt. I was wondering how i can make the desktop show them?
I recently had to do a system restore and now my .jpg and jpeg files have a bad file icon. They still do open with the windows pic program as I want them to - but only on the admin accout, I usually surf and play and do everything else with a user account, and even if I reset everything under folder options for the file associacions it somehow doesn't apply to the other account.
windows tells me in the file association menu that I changed the file association's properties and can set them back to standart "photo suite 6" - a program that I uninstalled ages ago
I was doing some detailed drawings in photoshop, and I also had a generic photo up in photoshop as well. I went to save my drawings, but apparently accidentally saved the photo under the drawins name and then closed the program. This morning I discovered the bad news. Is there a way to get that drawing back? I do not know if it was ever saved before.
I have a cd burner and xp and was wandering how can i record a movie file that is on a file sharing program what type of recording cd do i use i don't have a dvd burner.
My prob is a bit of a saga I defragged my Win XP Media PC a few days ago and then I noticed a clicking noise coming from the hard drive, I called PC servicecall managed to find a freephone number and the chap suggested I do a scandisk, he said to call back with the diagnosis later.
After the PC did two scandisks I managed to stop it when it was about to do a 3rd, I rebooted the PC and it loaded with no 'start' button or clock on the taskbar, so I rebooted. Then I got a message saying 'it can't load as a file was missing or corrupt windows/system32/configuration/system' it said to put in the original CD and type 'r' to repair.
Well the PC didn't come with any CD's and I only have one that I made after I'd had the PC for a month - a recovery disk.
So I called PC Servicecall back and told the guy what happened and I've got another harddrive arriving tomorrow - trouble is I need to get the info from my hard drive before I send it back to them.
I've looked at MS support site and there's options to do a manual repair (I'll copy and paste info here) Method 1: Replace the SYSTEM Hive Method 2: Restore the SYSTEM File from the SYSTEM.ALT Backup File Method 3: Reduce the Size of the SYSTEM File Method 4: Restore the SYSTEM Hive from Backup
Which all sound hunky dorey but I don't have any original bootable CD (the PC doesn't have a floppy drive), so I can't type 'r' to repair!!!!
In my possesion I do have an XP Pro CD, a Win2000 CD and a Win98 CD - my question is can I use these other CD's to try a 'repair' and get into the 'manual' area to try the methods above (the OS is Win Media Edition on the PC)?
when I start my ms outlook 2007 I get this error. "Errors have been detected in the file 'file_path'. Quit all mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool." I tried to scan with scanpst.exe but it went in vain.I tried it with other applications it worked fine. But,the problem is they all are demo versions and I gets back only 5 to 6 mails for more mails i have to buy that applications. Do we have any free tool that can fix my problem or any other way to fix this.
Running Disk Cleanup, when this Windows File Protection comes up saying a system file has been replaced with a unrecognized one. It wants me to put in my Operating System CD, but I don't have one. I bought this computer and the required files are already on the computer. So what should I do?
I have found 2 damaged files-C:WINDOWSsystem32luctl.dll and C:WINDOWSCPBRKPIE.OCX .I tried to change this screen saver my daughter installed but i keep getting program not responding.I could not find screen saver in add or remove programs and am afraid i messed something up trying to change the screen saver.
Small home peer to peer LAN with XP Pro SP2 and a recent standard setup as a work group on all but I cannot browse the program files folder either way.I get the access is denied due to permissions message - but I haven't set anything special.I am try to run programs which reside in the prgram files folder of one computer on another.
I supposed to be able to open a lot of files with different extensions stored in a folder. My documents Chess Base.Windows can't open them at this time and no relevant answer could be found at http://filext.com. Impossible to make an appropriate choice from an open program list. Do separate programs have to be needed for each file extension? How to fix this problem ? Should the manufacturer of the product "Echecs Deluxe powered by Fritz" finally be contacted?
Have win xp. On my pc I am trying to play some music that I downloaded. I get the error message "THIS FILE DOES NOT HAVE A PROGRAM ASSOCIATED WITH IT FOR PERFORMING THIS ACTION. CREATE AN ASSOCIATION IN THE " FOLDER OPTION" CONTROL PANEL did go to the CONTROL PANEL and to the FOLDER OPTION, but I have no idea on what to do at this point.
I recently downloaded the WinZip 9.0 Program, and it is the first time that I am using Zip Files. My Question is, after unzipping the file, how do I initiate the program, in this case, eliminating a file when Windows states, that it cannot be deleted ? And what does, DOS, have to do with it ? My OS is Windows XP Professional.
2 year old Acer Aspire 5670 LTop running xp. After running a program to clean up my LT caled RegCure all my Dtop short cuts have stoped working. All I get is the caption " This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel"
I have a file that I have no use for which I would like to delete. It is stored in an out of the way directory (not system directory of any sort) and I found it when I was doing some housekeeping. The name of the file is PKUNZIP.EXE and it would have been copied onto this computer a couple years ago with some other files. Now I know what pkunzip is, but xp pro this file certainly is not required. Alas when I try to delete it I get this: Error Deleting File or Folder Cannot delete PKUNZIP: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again. So I'm pretty determined to get rid of this guy, not because it's a problem, but because it's made me mad hehe. So I tried to boot up with a 98 boot disk and delete from DOS. No go, 98 boot wont recognize NTFS.
I downloaded an .exe file but cancelled the download before it finished. Now, it's sitting on my desktop and I can't delete it. For the past few days, it kept saying that the file is being used by another person or program. Even though the list of applications in the Task Manager was empty, I still couldn't delete it. I wasn't familiar enough with the processes to know which process to end, but I've a hunch it's explorer.exe. Now when I try to delete the same file, it says that it is not a valid Win32 application. FYI, I've tried using Killbox to delete it but it didn't work. Is there a way to delete this file?
Can anyone explain why this happens? When I go to move certain .avi movie files on my hard drive from one directory to another, I get an error message that says: Error Moving File, It is being used by another person or program. The problem is, I don't know of any other programs using it. All my media players are closed. How can I find out what process is using it? This computer has only 1 log in (me) so it is not another person.
I figured I could search this problem up and find it here... I did.. NUMEROUS times... but my problem is.my HiJackThis program doesnt stay open either! I managed to get a logfile made.not sure how complete it is... before HiJackThis was shut down... heres the file.
Every time I try to open C: (while going to My Computer > Double Click C it gives me the "choose program you want to use to open this file > File C:" i also get this whenever i try to open other drives (usb, external, drives)
I am having trouble running a dos medical office management program after copying it via a Zip disk from a Windows 95 to a Windows XP computer. All files copy correctly and are installed on the Win XP hard drive ultimately. When I start the program It tells me that I need to increase the number of files in the Config.sys file from 40 to at least 99 files. After going to the Sysedit32 folder in XP, I found the Config.sys file (with nothing in it) and wrote the FILES=99. After re-booting XP I still get the same message. The dos program starts up the same way. When I copied and installed the program to another Win 95 or 98 computer the program runs fine after changing the Config.sys FILES=40 as prompted. Am I changing the correct file? The program uses FOXPRO 2.5 for the databases. The is no Config.sys file in the dos program
I'm trying to set the output of a commandline program to a variable in a Windows batch file. For example, if I'd like to read the output of the "ver" command (which tells you what version of window) to a variable called "myvar", how would I do it? So "ver" outputs for me: "Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]" How would I read that into a variable called myvar?
When I put in a CD Rom disk and I try to run a program there is an error window and it sais,"16 bit Windows Subsystem C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Chose 'close' to terminate the application." Than there are two buttons Close and Ignore. When I click Ignore nothing happens. When I click Close nothing happens too. This only happens to a couple of my CD's, not all. They worked before but now they don't.
"Cannot delete (folder name): It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that may be using the file and try again." So, I did that and it still will not delete. Besides rebooting (uses up much of my time) anybody know how to clear this?
I'm running Windows XP and I have been having trouble deleting a file on my C drive. I get the message "Cannot delete It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." This is the file path C:SEVEN_4X3LB_SIDE_B.ISO I have never had so much trouble with a file before. I searched many places on the web for a solution, have found many which have helped other people but not in my case.
Has anyone heard of an 03 file extension or a program that will open these files. I have searched for this extension on the net but came up with nothing. I am wondering is there such a file.
I have Windows XP Home installed on my computer as my OS. Recently, I've been cleaning out my computer by uninstalling programs that I haven't used for a while. However, the uninstallation of some programs fails. For example, I have a software called JapaneseNow! (to learn Japanese) installed on my computer. However, trying to uninstall it pops up the error message that "Uninst.isu" cannot be found and therefore the uninstallation cannot continue. I already cleared off a software called SpanishNow! beforehand, which may have caused Uninst.isu to be cleared....
This is a very silly question but I accidently checked the box telling my computer to always open AC3 files with my Nero program. I would like to have the AC3 file not be assigned to any specific program but I do not know how to do this. The only option I have is to assign them to another program. What I am trying to say is I would like to go back to the way it was before I assigned them to Nero so I would get a message telling me that windows could not open the file and then it would ask me to choose a program to do so.
