Have win xp. On my pc I am trying to play some music that I downloaded. I get the error message "THIS FILE DOES NOT HAVE A PROGRAM ASSOCIATED WITH IT FOR PERFORMING THIS ACTION. CREATE AN ASSOCIATION IN THE " FOLDER OPTION" CONTROL PANEL did go to the CONTROL PANEL and to the FOLDER OPTION, but I have no idea on what to do at this point.
View 6 RepliesI have been using Add/Remove icon in Control Panel to remove programs. Although the Win2k Pro is running fine ,the icon of Add/Remove Program is not opening the next window to remove the programs.
I am having a big issue with my windows xp. Some of the programs are fine, but the vast majority, when i try to open them, come up with an error message telling me it has encountered a problem and needs to close. I have tried to download certain anti virus programs but even they will not open! Very strange. Does anyone know what is going on?
View 14 Replies View RelatedWin XP doesn't remember which of my two screens, and where on the screen, to open one particular program (Adobe Camera Raw). It doesn't have problems with any other program, nor do other users of ACR I have communicated with appear to have the same problem. Where does Windows store the information that tells it where to open a particular program? Is there a way to reset this information, or force Windows to remember a particular location? I am assuming this involves tinkering with the registry, but I don't know where in the registry to look.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to open a folder of a program it doesn't work. I click the folder and the mouse changes to the mouse and hourglass picture but nothing happens after that. Sometimes I get that error sound but no message pops up. Then the title on the title bar of my applications goes blank and I no longer can click the menu that says file, edit, view,It highlights it but it won't let me click it. I also cannot right click anymore and when I try to reset my computer, it highlights it but I can't click that either.I also can't open the task manager when it happens nor can I type in my address bar or open a new tab for my browser.. I tried running a virus scan but it catch anything so I have no idea what I can do. I've tried system restore but that didn't fix it.

Whilst attempting to remove a spyware/virus (the entire malwares/virus no longer seemed to be there but the malicious processes acpiz.dll and WINotify.dll would lurk in various system processes, I tried some program which was supposed to delete that malware but it just seemed to corrupt everything worse) I seem to have corrupted whatever program Windows uses to display that start bar. Windows loads 'normally' till it gets to the point when startbar should appear where it does nothing. alt-tab displays nothing either. Only way I can run anything is by booting in 'Safe Mode with Command Prompt'. From cmd.exe auto-starting I can start explorer.exe and then other programs. However since it's in Safe Mode I can't start internet which is what I really want to actually be able to research my problems.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI can start my computer, get to my desk top, my icons load as well as my anti virus icon on the task bar; however, once I click on an icon, an hour glass appears but my computer doesn't go to the program or web page I'm trying to open, then if I click another, my computer freezes I can not do a shut down but am able to log-off. I can access the web or my MS Office files via safe mode as well as MS Outlook. Can you tell me what has happen to my system?

They still do open with the windows pic program as I want them to - but only on the admin accout, I usually surf and play and do everything else with a user account, and even if I reset everything under folder options for the file associacions it somehow doesn't apply to the other account.
windows tells me in the file association menu that I changed the file association's properties and can set them back to standart "photo suite 6" - a program that I uninstalled ages ago
I was doing some detailed drawings in photoshop, and I also had a generic photo up in photoshop as well. I went to save my drawings, but apparently accidentally saved the photo under the drawins name and then closed the program. This morning I discovered the bad news. Is there a way to get that drawing back? I do not know if it was ever saved before.

Even if the batch file contains only just the one line.If the batch file is in any other directory, it works fine. Of course, I keep all my batch files in the same directory ("C:Program FilesBruce"), and I can find nothing anywhere in Windows that should cause this directory to be any different than any other. Addition a few minutes later: Now the simple one-line batch file will sometimes work, sometimes not work, when in other directories. This is weird.

Software is XP SP3.I have been using XP to view/edit several subfolders of jpegs stored in a Kodaks Folder. I prefer to usthe "filmstrip view". I am able to rename file name from something like 101_2900 to kidname whatever, but the new name never appears onscreen unless I either force a F5 screen refresh or back out and re-enter the file folder. I can probably edit photo names in Corel Paint Shop Pro or another program, but this is just driving me nuts.Sometimes when I turn on the computer and decide to rename files, the new names appear immediately without refreshes, ect. Just wonder if I am missing a file property setting or something basic that I haven't noticed.

I'm looking for heart rate monitor files using .hrm as the search term and WE says it can't find any files. I can go to C:/program files etc. and get to the files. File formats are xxxxxx.hrm, with xxxxxx being the date. Searching for .hrm on my laptop finds all of the files with no problem.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was capturing digital video from camcorder and after compressing and burning it to DVD, deleted this file of 12GB size, since it is bigger in size it was not even shown in Recycle bin and whole space occupied by this file never recoved. After this incident a 6GB file from digital video capture happend exactly similar way. So in essence 18GB space is gone somewhere without any clue. Later tried running Norton tools and file system check, but no use. None of these able to detect this file. Searching the files of the same name(assuming misplaced somewhere) returned empty list and recyle bin is also empty. Also tried looking for big size file in C:WINDOWSTemp but no use.

What happens when I say print is the printer icon appears in my taskbar, hangs around for about 15 seconds (as if printing is occuring) then it goes away but the printer never prints. If I open Control Panels and go to Printer, it too breifly shows one document printing for a few seconds, as if it is printing. It is as if the file has been spooled, but the spooler doesn't send the file on to the printer. My desire is to print. My question (hopefully on that road to printing): Is there a print spooler in Windows XP? Any way to monitor it other than control panel printer?

The actual software doesn't seem to be on the setup cd, but I haven't downloaded it either. Have figured out that its give me slowdowns and wierdnesses and generally making me mad. Especially when I find that it does not show in Add Remove! Tried searching for Pure Networks remover, and other variations in wording. Find that lots of people have similar difficulties. What is the trick? Safe mode and delete the folders? Search the registry manually?

I found these files while clicking the Tools button on my browser window, Internet Options from there and then View Objects. The first thing in this downloaded list is a filed listed as and it says that it is damaged. It also has a date on it that is before my transfere. This file came from a HP Windows98 computer to my now Dell XP WIndows. It's only 4kb. It also says it was accessed today for some reason. Is my computer really using this file? Is this a file I need. Normal boot shows the windows initial screen, but eventually just restarts, safe mode does the same thing whether it's with network, command line or plain safe mode. Last known good configuration does the same.Needed to use a file so decided to remove the HD and re-install to another PC. I did have access to the file in question but now I'd like to fix the problem.
The other system uses AVG. I started a scan and it detected Cekar.d (A0003977.exe, wdfmgr.exe and initially ntldr.exe), Dropper.Inor (ntdetect.hta, A0003979.hta), PSW.Generic5.ABVW (ctfmona.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.AAFI (ctfmonb.exe), PSW.Generic5.AFYK (ctfmond.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.ZWT (LotusHlp.exe) and some others but for whatever reason the scan stopped. I restarted it and now the AV still finds most of the threats it was seeing before but not Cekar.d. in the ntldr.exe file.
