I have the following problem: Explorer doesn`t show any details for any media file type like artist or album, when choosing Details view. Additionally, clicking on file properties doesn`t show any info either, nor simple, nor in advanced view.The files are fine, and other software reads the media file info correctly, including WMP 11 and Winamp.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI started using VLC Media Player a week or so ago because I was having (have always had) problems with the bloated Windows Media Player. But VLC has an odd problem. When I click on (e.g.) an .avi or .wmv file that came attached to an e-mail, I get an error message saying that "the file does not have a program associated with it to perform the action". But it DOES. I open Folder Options, and there it is. Now, the only action in the file type box is "Play". I notice that the one thing I open with WMP also has an "Open" as an action. I tried entering an Open action, and browsed to the VLC.exe file to put in the path, but it doesn't work.
The odd thing about the situation is that if I SAVE the attachment, then double-click it, it plays perfectly using VLC? Why will it play after I save it, but not when I click it as an e-mail attachment? I suspect it has something to do with having an "Open" action in the file type, but don't know how to enter same and have it work.
My win XP pro doesn't recognize my USB 400GB WD external HD.The PC detected it the first time however on subsequent connection, it only detect it as mass storage device. Window explorer doesn't show it as external device.I uninstall the USB mass storage driver from device manager several times but window doesn't display the HD in window explorer.

When I open windows explorer (xp home) to view files and folders it is not showing me all of them. For example, under c:documents and settings it does not show "local settings..." and all the subfolders. And, when I installed Office it created an install cache folder but it doesn't show that either. How do I turn it on to show all? There is no prompt to "show hidden files". its probably something real simple that I am overlooking.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I point to some files in Windows Explorer or similar program a yellow "sticky note" displays with either the filename or occasionally a summary of the details of the file such as Date Modified, Size etc. I find it really annoying since it covers up an area such as other files etc.I have tried "Disable Notification Area Balloon Tips in Windows XP" and "EnableBalloonTips" registry entry is already set to '0' plus I even recreated and still no go...still appears. Does not appear on every file but once in a while it will happen/
First I am new to XP but not new to computers.I got a new-ish thinkpad with two partitions on it's drive. The c: primary one was NTFS, there was another for SERVICE which was FAT32. I promptly proceeded to using PartitionMagic to break up my huge c: partition into 3 partitions (all primary - now I have 4 primary partitions, 4th being the SERVICE fat32 one), the first 3 being NTFS.

I'm looking for heart rate monitor files using .hrm as the search term and WE says it can't find any files. I can go to C:/program files etc. and get to the files. File formats are xxxxxx.hrm, with xxxxxx being the date. Searching for .hrm on my laptop finds all of the files with no problem.

It had an old xp installed on it which ino longer wish to use, but when i hook it up to the pc the drive doesn't show up, i mounted the drive on a linux(ubuntu) system and managed to delete everything except the windows folder, i believe the ntfs file system is stopping it from being deleted, my question is how can i delete the windows folder so that i can format and reuse the drive without putting it into the pc, any further info needed will be duly supplied

View 2 Replies View RelatedHi the other day i tried to turn on my computer but it never reached the log in page, which meant I could not use the computer as I normally have to type in my password to go to my desktop screen. I don't know what to do. By the way this is not that laptop. What it does is, it starts up normally where it goes to the bit where is goes windows xp and then under there is a bar with a small bar sliding inside it, but then instead of going to the blue log in page it just becomes blank and restarts. Please help my currently I have to use this not so good laptop and I just can't live without the other laptop.

What happens is when I try to play a game, video or watch any type of media my system locks up. It has locked up when I was dragging a open window down the screen too. I updated my graphics card drives just in case, but its still happening.

View 7 Replies View Relatedmy dvd/cdrw drive just recently disapeared from the "my computer" window, and it does not work any more. It has power going to it. I checked all cables plenty of times. The only time it works is when i put XP cd and restart computer, it reads it. But otherwise it wont read anything when i am on Xp. i dont watn to reformatt agian lol
View 6 Replies View RelatedNormally when I turn on my computer, it loads and logs in automatically and doesn't need to show the login screen. But today when I turn it on, it goes to the login screen. So I click my name which is Compaq_Owner, and it logs me in. I see a quick flash of my background of my desktop with no icons, and then it goes back to the login screen and logs me out. It says "Saving Personal Settings" and "Logging Out" . Then I am back at the log in screen. I do not get any errors, just this. I have tried Safe Mode and making a different account I can log into, but it doesn't work. I did a system restore to Monday, 2 days before it started this. I then log in and it does the same thing all over again. I have also restarted and tried to log in, but that doesn't work either.

None of the 3 that have been downloaded for a long time and show up on the bottom of the screen (Net Defensewall, System Suite 8, and Windows Defender) but yet they don't exist when I try to delete them? No CDs or floppies came with the computer. A couple of months later, it was stolen by one of her business associates. It eventually was recovered, but the thief had installed Windows XP along with the OS that was already installed. In trying to remove XP and return the machine to its original state, I somehow managed to eventually not be able to use either OS. As it stands now I have no OS and cannot even access my hard drive.When I boot from a floppy then try to change to C: drive, I get the error message: Invalid media type reading drive c: Abort, Retry, Fail?

However, everytime I go to the screen, the area where the little calender that has all your restore points, is gone and blank. I have tried restarting; nothing.
