windows explorer XP Pro.Instead of there being a forward slash in the title there is a strange looking W with a slash through it.Also typing Forward slash generates the funny W in windows but types correctly in IE8
View 5 RepliesI opened my computer and decided to goto internet through the my computer window. So I pressed home button of my key board so the My Computer window converted to a web page. But after that the address bar disappeared. I closed the window and restart the machine and opened the internet explorer, but still address bar is missing. I checked under the tools and I can see the tick infront of the address bar.

I have the following problem: Explorer doesn`t show any details for any media file type like artist or album, when choosing Details view. Additionally, clicking on file properties doesn`t show any info either, nor simple, nor in advanced view.The files are fine, and other software reads the media file info correctly, including WMP 11 and Winamp.
View 10 Replies View Relatedso, a few years back i read a magazine that said to change the type of computer in device manager to standard pc because it made the computer run a little better or faster.so now i've got my laptop and i've noticed it getting slower and thought that i would do this... VERY BAD MOVE! i can still boot windows and everything - it meant that i had to let the computer reinstall all of the drivers for my hardware - but i have noticed in the device manager now that there are two instances of 'standard pc', there is also a new section titled 'other devices' with about 15 devices that seem to have no driver for them - some mention 'ISA' so i am guessing that changing to standard pc means that windows thinks my laptop is now a desktop pc with ISA slots? i find that when i put my laptop lid down the thing shuts down, when i press the power button it turns off straight away (doesn't even shut down!). i had had the laptop configured for ages to do nothing when i closed the lid and give me shut down options when i pressed the power button. i look in power options and i can only cinfigure the monitor screen and hard disk power off options - every other option is not available. when i do bring up the shut down options i can no longer choose standby.
i have also realised that i can not turn on my wireless connection - i've tried all sorts to get it to work with no avail! the laptop is an acer ferrari and when i call up the manager app it says that bluetooth and wireless are not present (by the way i can still get the bluetooth button to work - correction - it starts up with the button on but if i turn it off it won't let me turn it on again). the emanager and presentation manager buttons on the laptops casing don't work either (i have to access them via software route).
I go to Start -> Accessorties -> Windows Explorer the normal Windows Explorer comes up fine, with the address bar, and everything the way I like it. However, if I go to Start -> Run -> Directory Name then Windows Explorer comes up and everything is cool except that there isn't an address bar!
I also use some shortcuts on my Quick Launch bar that point to folders; these also will open Windows explorer without an address bar. I've tried right clicking on the taskbad and selecting Address Bar, but it doesn't work.

Ever since I installed XP Home Edition on this computer, it boots up with problems.It always starts 2 copies of Windows Explorer. I can't find anywhere to
stop this from happening. It must be in the registry.My Internet Explorer cannot be launched by clicking on a link in my Eudora email client or my news reader. All it does is go to About:blank. I have searched for any hijacker that might cause this and came up empty each time.
When I try to type in the address bar of an Explorer folder (NOT IE; that works fine), the text tries to autocomplete, but then the original name of the folder seems to trump whatever I'm doing and my autocomplete type-ahead is all gone.

Now I have no ADDRESS BAR on my Explorer.I can go to any page by going through Google or MSN search, but no ADDRESS BAR display.I did a Roxio GoBack to a known good time but that did not bring back the ADDRESS BAR.

I haven't used xp since vista came out until I bought my netbook a few weeks back. My netbook came with windows xp sp3 and i can't get the address bar. I go to toolbars and enable address bar, but i dont see the actual address bar, it only shows the words address bar.

View 9 Replies View RelatedFor several months now the address bar in Windows Explorer will not let me finish typing a directory, URL, or file name in the text box. It reverts and selects whatever is the current directory or takes a few characters of what I am typing. The only way I can put anything into the text box is to cut-and-paste it. The other account on this computer does not have this problem.
I have tried to turn off auto-complete and several other things, but nothing works. The address bar in IE does not behave like this which surprises me.
I was hit with a spyware which I just cleaned. Anyway, my problem now is that under Internet Explorer or Explorer itself, when I start typing in a path, it doesn't let me finish and revert back to the current path.
Eg. current path is c:windows
If I want to go say c:program files, while typing C:pro it will refresh the address bar and revert back to c:windows. I have to type pretty fast to be able to reach the desired path.

If you type in a url it works fine. I have check the advance settings and it is check to use the address bar as a search. Do any of you guys know how to fix this so he can use the adress bar as a search.

The windows explorer address bar is now 'refreshing' every 5 seconds or so.
Very unhelpful, as it wipes out the network location you are trying to enter.
It reverts to the previous address, and auto selects the full text.
Internet Explorer keeps track of each URL that you type in the address bar as a convenience to save you from typing the next time that you visit that site. However, any user that uses your computer can find out what addresses you typed in as well so some may be interested in clearing the address bar addresses. Just clearing the browser history will not do this as a registry modification is needed

In Internet Explorer, on the address bar, you can click the down arrow at the right end of the bar and this causes a Drop Down List to appear, that shows URLs you've recently typed in and gone to. Can this list be cleared and if so how and is the information completely gone even though you can't see it?
IE 6 I cannot see address bar, even tho it is checked in View > Toolbars. Went to Tools > Internet Options restore defaults--nothing.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running xp pro. I can not get an internet connection through my ethernet card. When I hook up my modem through usb it works fine but unable to utilize my full download speed capabilities. Hooked the modem up via ethernet to laptop and it worked just fine. The only thing I can find wrong that I don't know how to fix or what is causing it is the fact that the physical address of the card comes up as the broadcast address (FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF). Very strange.

After we install Windows updates, Windows assigns an APIPA address in the 169.254.x.x range, instead of getting an address from the DHCP server. The effect is that the computer loses connectivity with the network and the Internet. You can confirm this problem by running an IPCONFIG and checking for an address in the 169.254 range.
Releasing and renewing the address does not correct the problem. Assigning a static IP address resolved the issue. Searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base, we found a registry hack that will disable APIPA addressing on the computer, and this does correct the problem so the computer can connect to the network again. We assume that the problem is a result of an update from last Tuesday, but we have not determined which update is the problem. We are still looking. Our concern is that as DHCP leases expire with computers in the field, that this effect may appear. If you get calls for loss of network or Internet connectivity, have the user run IPCONFIG, and if they have an APIPA address, the registry hack is outlined in KB article
I am using Windows XP Home edition. How do you delete an address from the list of automatic webb address list in the Address box? I tried highlighting it and entering delete but it doesn't get deleted.
