The windows explorer address bar is gone. I've already checked/unchecked View>Toolbars>Address Bar several times--no help. This is XP Home. It works fine on my other PC running XP Pro.
I used windows xp while back and I know the explorer (not internet explorer, i mean windows explorer) had a *working* address bar. I haven't used xp since vista came out until I bought my netbook a few weeks back. My netbook came with windows xp sp3 and i can't get the address bar. I go to toolbars and enable address bar, but i dont see the actual address bar, it only shows the words address bar.
I've attached a shot of the toolbar at the foot of the screen. You'll see that one of the open programs is MS Excel. There are 5 Excel files open at the same time, but the icon only lists the active one.Until about an hour ago if I had 5 files open the Excel icon stated this and I could click on the icon to choose the file I wanted to work on and I LIKED IT THAT WAY
How do I clean out the list of sites that build up in this tool bar? I've tried unchecking and rechecking the address option in the toolbar selection popup menu from the taskbar. I've also cleared all the sections under tools --> options --> privacy from the Firefox dropdown menu. Maybe I need to do something from within IE rather than Firefox? Maybe this post belongs under browsers/internet rather than XP, but the toolbar in question is unique to XP, or XP and ME, is it not?
I opened my computer and decided to goto internet through the my computer window. So I pressed home button of my key board so the My Computer window converted to a web page. But after that the address bar disappeared. I closed the window and restart the machine and opened the internet explorer, but still address bar is missing. I checked under the tools and I can see the tick infront of the address bar.
I cant find my Internet explorer icon anywhere. I went to desk top properties>advanced and tried to click on "keep IE icon on desk top" that you advised another person on here to do but its not there to click on it. The icon is how I get on the internet and would like to have it back.
Last week my Windows Explorer Toolbar disappeared. When I open "my documents" or any other folder on my computer, the top toolbar isn't present.I can't access the file menu, change folder views, or anything.I've run several checks for viruses or malware using McAfee and AdAware with no significant results.I suspect it's a problem in Windows, but I can't figure out how to repair it.I keep Windows up to date, and running extremely lean. I have few extra processes running.I attempted a system restore back to the day before the problem occurred. Upon startup, I would get an error message stating Windows Explorer Must Close. I did an un restore.
Windows XP, using explorer, if you look at a list of files, and hover over a filename, Eplorer will display a yellow tooltip with file type, date modified, size, etc. The information seems to be related to the file type : .EXE files show different information in the tooltip than .DLL files. How can this be configured ? How can I tell Windows which information to show for which type of file? I'm using two different PC's, and one just stopped showing the "Date modified" in the tooltip. I'm looking for a way to restore that.
I'm using windows xp.When I right click on Start and then go to Explorer, my standard toolbar and buttons are missing. I've tried everything - right clicking, that only gives me the choice to close the "toolbar" which are just all the folders on the left on the screen. When I go to my computer from the start menu on XP, the standard toolbar and buttons are there, just missing when I right click on the start menu. I could live without it, but it is my habit to get to my folders that way and it is really annoying not to have the menu options.
The Windows tool tip isn't the problem. When I connect to the internet the tool tip says 'Connected at 2.2mbps. However when you close the tool tip it's hidden, not actually terminated. Are tool tips part of shell32.dll or explorer.exe? Is it possible to terminate it? I don't mind RCE either of the files.
I go to Start -> Accessorties -> Windows Explorer the normal Windows Explorer comes up fine, with the address bar, and everything the way I like it. However, if I go to Start -> Run -> Directory Name then Windows Explorer comes up and everything is cool except that there isn't an address bar!
I also use some shortcuts on my Quick Launch bar that point to folders; these also will open Windows explorer without an address bar. I've tried right clicking on the taskbad and selecting Address Bar, but it doesn't work.
Here is a screen capture video so you know exactly what's going on:
When I try to type in the address bar of an Explorer folder (NOT IE; that works fine), the text tries to autocomplete, but then the original name of the folder seems to trump whatever I'm doing and my autocomplete type-ahead is all gone.
I right clicked on the Explorer toolbar and by mistake clicked to remove the ADDRESS BAR. Now I have no ADDRESS BAR on my Explorer.I can go to any page by going through Google or MSN search, but no ADDRESS BAR display.I did a Roxio GoBack to a known good time but that did not bring back the ADDRESS BAR.
I use the Firefox browser, but from time to time I have to use Explorer's. As of late I've found that every time I use Explorer my address bars history has been cleared.
Most (Maybe all of them) of the shortcuts (the ones in the desktop, Word, Explorer, MyComputer, etc) don't work.
Then, to open the Internet, I had to open the programs menu, and double clikc ont it. I came to the forum and try to download "Highjack this" but I cannot open any link, plus the address bar is not visible
my address bar on explorer is no longer visable ,any ideas how i get it back please ? the address is ticked and the word address is on the tool bar but i cant seem to get it to display , i have tryied right clicking etc but still no joy
can i get internet explorer address bar to show up at top of the page, all it shows is the back and forward buttons. I want the file/tools/etc.. buttons to show up
windows explorer XP Pro.Instead of there being a forward slash in the title there is a strange looking W with a slash through it.Also typing Forward slash generates the funny W in windows but types correctly in IE8
For several months now the address bar in Windows Explorer will not let me finish typing a directory, URL, or file name in the text box. It reverts and selects whatever is the current directory or takes a few characters of what I am typing. The only way I can put anything into the text box is to cut-and-paste it. The other account on this computer does not have this problem.
I have tried to turn off auto-complete and several other things, but nothing works. The address bar in IE does not behave like this which surprises me.
I was hit with a spyware which I just cleaned. Anyway, my problem now is that under Internet Explorer or Explorer itself, when I start typing in a path, it doesn't let me finish and revert back to the current path.
Eg. current path is c:windows
If I want to go say c:program files, while typing C:pro it will refresh the address bar and revert back to c:windows. I have to type pretty fast to be able to reach the desired path.
My address bar in windows explorer refreshing himself automatically.I'm tring to to write some text into address bat and after 3 sec the text return to My Computer
before we did the system restore he was able to type a word into the address bar and it would do a search, now it does not, says page cant be display. If you type in a url it works fine. I have check the advance settings and it is check to use the address bar as a search. Do any of you guys know how to fix this so he can use the adress bar as a search.
Internet Explorer keeps track of each URL that you type in the address bar as a convenience to save you from typing the next time that you visit that site. However, any user that uses your computer can find out what addresses you typed in as well so some may be interested in clearing the address bar addresses. Just clearing the browser history will not do this as a registry modification is needed
I have Windows XP Pro sp2 and use Internet Explorer 7.
In Internet Explorer, on the address bar, you can click the down arrow at the right end of the bar and this causes a Drop Down List to appear, that shows URLs you've recently typed in and gone to. Can this list be cleared and if so how and is the information completely gone even though you can't see it?
i recieve this error message everytime i try to do a search from my address bar in internet explorer. i can type the direct address and i can go directly to a site, but searching is dead. i have enclosed the message below. might you be able to guide me? The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for might have been removed or had its name changed.
Open the home page, and then look for links to the information you want. If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly. If you still cannot open the page, click the Internet Explorer Search button to look for similar sites.
This tweak quickly completes website address in Internet Explorer by adding the www. prefix and the .com suffix1. Type the main name of the website. eg. Microsoft 2. Press CTRL + Enter3. IE completes the address to www.microsoft.com and starts going to the site.Notes:Works on all newer versions of Internet Explorer. Only completes for www. and .com - not for countries such as .co.uk or .com.au. Make sure that "Use autocomplete" is enabled in Internet Options Advanced, otherwise this will not work.
I have a problem regarding my explorer window in win xp pro. The menu that usualy are on the left side of the screen has moved to the top under the adress line. And I don't have any ide on how it got there. Anyone know how to move it back to the left side? Here's a screenshoot of it:
