I've attached a shot of the toolbar at the foot of the screen. You'll see that one of the open programs is MS Excel. There are 5 Excel files open at the same time, but the icon only lists the active one.Until about an hour ago if I had 5 files open the Excel icon stated this and I could click on the icon to choose the file I wanted to work on and I LIKED IT THAT WAY

Now whenever I load Excel, it takes a minute to "install excel features". I would think one install of whatever features it is installing would be sufficient. Why does it keep installing the same features and how can I get it to quit doing this?I am using Excel 2003 on a Gygabyte GA-8IEX mother board with a Pentium IV 2.53 cpu.

Now a days it is insisting to install "Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)" first to proceed for downloading update files.Is it a FORCE or I can bypass this tool. I do not want to install it, as somebody told me this is a tool by MS to takeout personal information on my OS (XP) and MS Office and other MS Software.I know I use genuine legal copy.But why should I allow MS to take more information ? Usually when need to get a screen shot of the desktop on my PC just press on (Prt Scrn) then open word and paste it, But I can?t do it on my Laptop HP Compaq, OS: wind XP 2002, SP2, I tried to press on (prt sc + alt) and I tried to press the key (prt sc) alone twice but it doesn?t work, does it need special software? Or a different function to do it?
View 14 Replies View RelatedAt some point in time, do not remember when exactly, a text box started appearing before arriving at the login screen. Unfortunately I cannot take a screen shot of it or ID a process since it technically happens before any user is even logged in. The title bar of the box is two squares and the body of it is the same. Then there is just an OK button. After clicking ok everything boots normally. Scanned for viruses and spyware using every known method and the install is clean. I normally use linux most of the time, but whenever I go into XP to play a game, this drives me nuts.

I have found something in the KB953297 Update I've not seen before. There appears to be more than one executable item in the downloaded package. See the attached screen shot.
The first begins with the word "all" with an icon typical of a setup executable. My guess is that is the one I should launch and it would install the appropriate software.
I have run sfc scan now (because the startup of win xp was slower than before ( i count the 3 blue bars when xp is loading, and it was increased from 6 to 11) and asks the win xp cd. after the check, I rerun the sfc scannow, to be sure that everything is ok, but asks again for winxp cd (there is still corrupted files?). I run sfc /purgecache, then again scannow to refill the cache, and after i rerun the scannow it still asks for the xin xp cd!!! what is going on here?(note that i have win xp pro gr without sp2, after the installation i installed sp2. I re instaled the sp2, rerun the sfc /purgecache , then scannow, and again the scannow and still asks for the win xp cd.)

View 10 Replies View Relatedrecently my computer takes ages to get passed the Windows XP load screen. Sometimes the scrolling bars stop and it freezes before i it loads the desktop. It works if i safe boot it, but often it doesn't pass the Windows XP startup screen, or it takes a long time (approx 100s) to get passed it. Before it only took at most 10 seconds. It don't know why it's doing it. I've tried running a registry mechanic, prefetch cleaner and all that jazz.But it's still taking awhile to get passed that XP screen.

I created a new user account and it was OK until the screen went into screen saver and I needed to log back in and the problem was there again. View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows XP. I went to the Properties on the Start Menu and decided to switch from Classic Start Menu to the newer version. In the list of programs on the new Start menu was EXCEL.EXE, but the icon was wrong and when I clicked on it, it couldn't find Excel. I went to the properties of the link and changed EXCEL.EXE to Excel. It still not working, I deleted the link.Now whenever I click on an icon on my desktop, the system tries to open it with Excel. Apparently the change screwed something up, but I do not know how to get back to where I was before.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just install SP2 the other day and there are a few fixes I need, I've gotten more of the compatitbility issue Number 1 is with Excel. When I open up any workbook it treats the left mouse button as pressed. So when I go to click on any cell is highlights it and tries to select an entire group. The only way for me to close the program is to use the taskmanager or right click the program on my start bar.Number 2 is WMP. Some video files I had don't play sound anymore and I have all the same codecs as before.

I had the Office XP installation disk "repair" the installation. there was no change. I tried MSWord. Help screen was same as in Excel - blank. I then tried to access Help and Support Center from the Start Menu. It would not open. I solved the probem by running the restore tool from the System Tools folder and setting the machine back to a time 1 week earlier, but I have no idea what would cause this issue. My machine uses ZoneAlarm Pro, Norton Anti-Virus, Sunbelt CounterSpy and is behind a router so I don't think it was the result of a malicious program.
