I had a major crash and had to reinstall my Windows XP SP2, so I have had to reinstall most of my programs. Now whenever I load Excel, it takes a minute to "install excel features". I would think one install of whatever features it is installing would be sufficient. Why does it keep installing the same features and how can I get it to quit doing this?I am using Excel 2003 on a Gygabyte GA-8IEX mother board with a Pentium IV 2.53 cpu.

In 2000 when I had multiple workbooks open and used ALT + TAB there would just be one icon for Excel, now there's one for each workbook I have open. Just had 8 open at once so finding my way around is a pain, know there will probably be just a box to tick somewhere, but damned if I can find it! Anyone else know where to change this setting?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows XP. I went to the Properties on the Start Menu and decided to switch from Classic Start Menu to the newer version. In the list of programs on the new Start menu was EXCEL.EXE, but the icon was wrong and when I clicked on it, it couldn't find Excel. I went to the properties of the link and changed EXCEL.EXE to Excel. It still not working, I deleted the link.Now whenever I click on an icon on my desktop, the system tries to open it with Excel. Apparently the change screwed something up, but I do not know how to get back to where I was before.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just install SP2 the other day and there are a few fixes I need, I've gotten more of the compatitbility issue Number 1 is with Excel. When I open up any workbook it treats the left mouse button as pressed. So when I go to click on any cell is highlights it and tries to select an entire group. The only way for me to close the program is to use the taskmanager or right click the program on my start bar.Number 2 is WMP. Some video files I had don't play sound anymore and I have all the same codecs as before.

I had the Office XP installation disk "repair" the installation. there was no change. I tried MSWord. Help screen was same as in Excel - blank. I then tried to access Help and Support Center from the Start Menu. It would not open. I solved the probem by running the restore tool from the System Tools folder and setting the machine back to a time 1 week earlier, but I have no idea what would cause this issue. My machine uses ZoneAlarm Pro, Norton Anti-Virus, Sunbelt CounterSpy and is behind a router so I don't think it was the result of a malicious program.

You cannot open ". No - I didn't double click the doc name and it happens with ANY document in the list of "recent documents". When I open an Excel file I get the response "Unable to read file." I can open excel itself, but just no files. old or new.When I open Word it says "The file filename is unavailable" Then when I close it, it is telling me that "The file normal already exists. do you want to replace it?" if i click yes it goes away but still wont open my file next time. With Explorer I end up hitting cancel about 10 times and it takes about 30 seconds and it asks me for a CD I don't have, I hit cancel some more, and then Explorer finally loads. With Word and Excel, I just hit cancel once, and then Word and Excel never do load.
