Feb 4, 2008I'm running windows xp 2005 sp2 As the free space in my %systemroot% was getting low, i decided to "move" my "my documents" folder to some drive that had enough space.. so i CREATED a folder that named "My Documents", say "e:My Documents" as the windows xp originally has) and put all my documents in that folder (that i created myself then ( i thought it would "just link" to that folder i opened properties of original my documents folder and gave the target as "e:my documents" and what xp did it just replaced my "my documents" folder that i had created with an empty "my documents" folder now i want to retrieve my all documents

Sep 15, 2006I had a major crash and had to reinstall my Windows XP SP2, so I have had to reinstall most of my programs. Now whenever I load Excel, it takes a minute to "install excel features". I would think one install of whatever features it is installing would be sufficient. Why does it keep installing the same features and how can I get it to quit doing this?I am using Excel 2003 on a Gygabyte GA-8IEX mother board with a Pentium IV 2.53 cpu.

May 26, 2006I get a phone call from someone who had the missing NTLDR message. THey said they were on the phone with microsoft for hours. The person outsourced told them to do another install of Windows to get in so they can back up their files. They tell him to install to Windows1 instead of Windows. I guess the smart outsourced agent thought this wouldn't delete any files since my friend told him he has some very important documents on this hard drive. So he installs another Windows and guess what, his documents and settings get overwritten. Looks like these guys really know what they're talking about since any Microsoft person should know this happens no matter where you install Windows

When i performed a standard recovery program on my computer it was supposed to install the program without affecting any of the data on my system but it my three user profiles became one. I got all of my files but the most important one will not open and a message appears stating that the file is not accessible. The data is still there because the memory is still used up on the hard drive but the properties indicates as there is nothing.

Mar 16, 2006I was capturing digital video from camcorder and after compressing and burning it to DVD, deleted this file of 12GB size, since it is bigger in size it was not even shown in Recycle bin and whole space occupied by this file never recoved. After this incident a 6GB file from digital video capture happend exactly similar way. So in essence 18GB space is gone somewhere without any clue. Later tried running Norton tools and file system check, but no use. None of these able to detect this file. Searching the files of the same name(assuming misplaced somewhere) returned empty list and recyle bin is also empty. Also tried looking for big size file in C:WINDOWSTemp but no use.

In the list of programs on the new Start menu was EXCEL.EXE, but the icon was wrong and when I clicked on it, it couldn't find Excel. I went to the properties of the link and changed EXCEL.EXE to Excel. It still not working, I deleted the link.Now whenever I click on an icon on my desktop, the system tries to open it with Excel. Apparently the change screwed something up, but I do not know how to get back to where I was before.

Apr 18, 2005I just install SP2 the other day and there are a few fixes I need, I've gotten more of the compatitbility issue Number 1 is with Excel. When I open up any workbook it treats the left mouse button as pressed. So when I go to click on any cell is highlights it and tries to select an entire group. The only way for me to close the program is to use the taskmanager or right click the program on my start bar.Number 2 is WMP. Some video files I had don't play sound anymore and I have all the same codecs as before.

Jul 25, 2005I was using Excel and tried to access the help screen, a gray window opened with no content. I had the Office XP installation disk "repair" the installation. there was no change. I tried MSWord. Help screen was same as in Excel - blank. I then tried to access Help and Support Center from the Start Menu. It would not open. I solved the probem by running the restore tool from the System Tools folder and setting the machine back to a time 1 week earlier, but I have no idea what would cause this issue. My machine uses ZoneAlarm Pro, Norton Anti-Virus, Sunbelt CounterSpy and is behind a router so I don't think it was the result of a malicious program.
