Excel File Open Very Slowly From Network Share?
Aug 23, 2005The problem is when i try to open excel file from network share which is shared on windows 2000 or windows xp pc , take too much time to open.

File Share Through Network Setup Wizard
Aug 17, 2007Two computers running windows xp professional and each computer has 3 different NIC cards. 1 wireless, 1 wired through switch and 1 wired directly. I used the network setup wizard to configure file sharing however neither computer can see the other's shared folders. The only firewall running is the default windows firewall. I suspect it has something to do with the different NIC cards and it is trying to find shared folders using the wireless as opposed to through the LAN.

Feb 25, 2006A while back I bought a wired router for my two computers one running XP and one running 98. hooked up the router just like the instructions said, ran the cable hooked it up, nothing happened, ran the network setup wizard made the disk and ran it on the other machine...Nothing happened, brother came over didnt do anything just looked and the other computer was in the network places just like it should be it worked fine the internet worked, file sharing worked, and printer sharing worked for several weeks until a few days ago now the internet works on both computers but cant share files

Jun 11, 2007I don't know exactly where to post this because I have two issues.I setup a network to share the internet connection and the only personal computer I am experiencing trouble with is the one running windows XP Home the others are running XP pro.Is there something wrong with XP home. I can't get my adapter to work with the personal computer running XP home but one of the personal computer running XP pro has no trouble. I also have a printer that will not work with the XP home.

The only problem is that it takes 5-10 seconds to open any program from a desktop shortcuts(AVG,Spyboot,Nero, Winamp).It is not a big deal but maybe somebody have some simple solution. This had been happening for the last couple of years and a few months ago I reinstalled Windows(clean install) but nothing changed.

Sep 24, 2008Am attempting to delete three old zip/unzip driver folders so I can install updated versions of the drivers, but every time I go to delete, a warning pops-up stating ...."nothing to do"......, then it slowly (crawls, actually) begins, stating..... "deleting from archive". The files are full, so there's obvious data that needs to be removed despite the warning that there's nothing to do. At the speed this thing is deleting, if at all, it will take days. My question is, why can't I do a conventional uninstall/deletion the way most files are deleted, and why is it requiring so much time? (FYI, once this process starts, the only way to stop it is to do a CTRL-ALT-DELETE- just canceling doesn't do a thing), I have to remove thes drivers before installing the new versions. Is there another method of removing these files

May 26, 2010I was having this problem on my old install of XP, which desperately needed a new install. In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).

Nov 8, 2007I have a problem that I do not know how to fix. My system is windows xp pro, it is very slow and unresponsive. It takes awhile to get the control panel to respond and the icon Network Connections does not want to open.It takes a few min. then it finally shows no connections. When I try to set up a connection I get the error: an exception occurred while trying to run netshell.dll,STARTNCW.I tried doing regsvr32 netshell.dll with start run and it said:Load Library Failed- The specific Module could not be found.The file netshell.dll is in the system 32 folder and in a folder dealing to Service Pack 2.I tried doing a chkdsk and it didn't catch anything. I also ran spy ware and anti virus software on the drive and nothing came up.I just did start run: regsvr32 netshell.dll regsvr32 netcfgx.dll regsvr32 netman. dll. These things error out. So i ran that sfc /scannow and it did its thing and asked for the windows disk and so i put it in (with sp2). I sat there it finished, and nothing happened so i restarted after like 10min.I then did all of these again:regsvr32 netshell.dll regsvr32 netcfgx.dll regsvr32 netman.dll And go the error the specific module cannot be found.

Aug 25, 2006i have a wireless network set up around my house and i have 2 desktops connected and one laptop connected to this network one fo the desktops and the laptop are connected fine and run the internet perfectly but the other desktop says it is connected to the network but will not open ANY webpage, will not connect to recive emails or any thing like that. I have called the makers of the wirless networking equitment about 10 times and one the last try they got me to go into command prompt and type "ipconfig" which came up with my IP address and it starts with "169" where as the other desktop and the laptop both have IP addresses starting with "192" so they said that my IP address was dodgey and this was a microsoft problem. i was wondering if any one knows any ways of changing my IP address so that it will start with "192" and will let me be able to connect with my wireless network.
