I have a user who cannot open DOC attachments in Outlook 2003. When she tries to open the attachment, it attempts to open the file in Excel. When she opens a doc file stored on the hard drive, it opens correctly, so I know it isn't a Windows file type association issue.

1)Security update for Excel Viewer 2003 (KB918425)
2)Security update for Office 2003 (KB917151)
I have checked 'Add and Remove' and they are not there. I am advised they are unable to be updated by the automatic update facility. I downloaded them manually, but that also failed to instal. Could someone help please as this has never happened before to me. The update is 2.3MB. I have 33GB free on C:/drive.
I know procedure for backup and restore my email messages from outlook express. Now I want to switch to Microsoft outlook and I wonder if it is possible to transfer messages from outlook express to MS outlook 2003?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows XP Home Edition, Outlook Express 6, I am backing up to CD the accounts and addressbook using "Export" and .dbx folders by file copy as advised in many places. However, I don't think I am backing up the attachments, By opening an attachment and asking to save it, I found its location to be Documents and Settings/Username/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5 (32 subfolders) so I suspect the attachments are not also stored in the .dbx folders. IE5 folders are very large and contain other stuff like historical webpages. I have searched and searched but nowhere found any mention of attachment backup. I thought of using Tools/Internet Options/Clear History to try to reduce these subfolders down to attachments only, which I could then back up to CD, but will the attachments get cleared down too

When I ask the sender to repeat but use my GoogleMail account, the attachments arrive fine. I'm using a vanilla IBM Thinkpad R52 running Windows XP as supplied and fairly ordinary applications. I thought it might be my virus software (I was using Super AntiSpyware which is quite aggressive) but I've deleted this and all other anti virus ware and the problem persists

Here's the thing - on the Inbox view it shows almost every email as having attachments, has the little paperclip icon next to the sender's name and all. However, on only three or four of those emails are the attachments available - on the rest that show attachments in the folder view, nothing is shown when opened, and the 'save attachments' option in the File menu is greyed out - not available. Basically, to OE the attachment simply does not exist beyond the icon in the folder view

What is actually attached is a long text file, The initial part of this text message .Is all the Email Properties, including a couple of previous forwards followed by what looks like the character encoding that should be the jpeg Image. Under Internet Options I have selected Outlook Express for my email service and this has been working satisfactorily for over 2 years. Recently when choosing to send a photo file as an email attachment, I get directed to Microsoft Outlook which has no "send" option. Earlier this evening I had a problem that ended up requiring me to do a fresh install of Windows XP Pro with service pack 2 onto my computer. I did not format, rather I installed over the current and problematic install. I've done this a number of times in the past with very few problems. Tonight was not one of these times however.For some reason (and this has not happened in the past) when I went to open up Outlook I could not find the program at all. I cannot in fact find any Office programs when I had the full suite installed.When doing this in the past, all my desktop icons remained in tact as did my startup menu. Now, this time, the only thing missing is Office.

View 7 Replies View RelatedOutlook 2003 has been crashing on me, sometimes immediately, sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes when I try to drag a message to a folder... I get the "has encounterd an error and needs to close" popup, and can't do anything with the program, so I hit send report. If I have "restart Outlook 2003" checked, it crashes again immediatly upon opening, if I don't, and wait a little while to open it again, it will open, and download my mail, but then as soon as I try to do something, like delete an email or something, it crashes again. IE "soft-crashes" almost immediately every time I open the browser - by this I mean, I get the "has encountered an error and needs to close" popup, but I found that if i just drag the box down to the bottom off the screen, I can continue to browse just fine.

I have a strange problem with Outlook 2003 and Mozilla Firefox browser. When I receive an email with a internet link and I click the link two browser windows open, one to my default home page, the other one to the link. Sometimes one of the Firefox browser windows will be no bigger than the little firefox icon and the three window controls.

Then I tried to go to the website to download directly from them instead of windows but it still did not work. You cannot open ". No - I didn't double click the doc name and it happens with ANY document in the list of "recent documents". The same thing happens in Windows Explorer (but here I have to double click). If I start Excel then open an existing document there's no problem.

I can open excel itself, but just no files. old or new.When I open Word it says "The file filename is unavailable" Then when I close it, it is telling me that "The file normal already exists. do you want to replace it?" if i click yes it goes away but still wont open my file next time. If i click no it tries to save in to the TEMPLATES FILE under NORMAL.
