Outlook Express Displays All Messages As Having Attachments
Sep 14, 2006
nearly all my email in Outlook Express in Win 2k comes with the attachment paper clip icon, even tho most of the email has no attachment. Needless to say, I'm a little nervous about attachments anyhow and am reluctant to open email from people I know. I have my provider's Earthlink spam filter on and am using AVG's email scanner
I have Windows XP Prof with SP2 and use Outlook express 6 - However sometimes when people send attachments I cannot see them with the email even though the email size is showing a file larger than just text- I am assuming the attachment is there how I can see and open the attachments
Windows XP Home Edition, Outlook Express 6, I am backing up to CD the accounts and addressbook using "Export" and .dbx folders by file copy as advised in many places. However, I don't think I am backing up the attachments, By opening an attachment and asking to save it, I found its location to be Documents and Settings/Username/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5 (32 subfolders) so I suspect the attachments are not also stored in the .dbx folders. IE5 folders are very large and contain other stuff like historical webpages. I have searched and searched but nowhere found any mention of attachment backup. I thought of using Tools/Internet Options/Clear History to try to reduce these subfolders down to attachments only, which I could then back up to CD, but will the attachments get cleared down too
Some but not all attachments sent to me with Outlook Express emails don't arrive in my In Box. When I ask the sender to repeat but use my GoogleMail account, the attachments arrive fine. I'm using a vanilla IBM Thinkpad R52 running Windows XP as supplied and fairly ordinary applications. I thought it might be my virus software (I was using Super AntiSpyware which is quite aggressive) but I've deleted this and all other anti virus ware and the problem persists
This PC in the office, has Outlook Express installed & set up. Here's the thing - on the Inbox view it shows almost every email as having attachments, has the little paperclip icon next to the sender's name and all. However, on only three or four of those emails are the attachments available - on the rest that show attachments in the folder view, nothing is shown when opened, and the 'save attachments' option in the File menu is greyed out - not available. Basically, to OE the attachment simply does not exist beyond the icon in the folder view
when sending emails with attachments from work to home. The attachments don't show up. All settings as far as I know are correct. I can receive attachments from anyone else. Work run outlook through exchange server. I can import work emails from outlook express into outlook and the attachments appear. I'm at a loss as to what is causing this

I am using OutLook Express and I am having a problem with attachments. When I go to open an attachment, it opens with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and then I see nothing. I have to save it somewhere than choose Microsoft Office Word to open it. What I would like to know is, how do I change the program of the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer to have it open using Microsoft Office Word Something changed it how to change it back
I have received some emails and they are supposed to have a jpeg Image attached. What is actually attached is a long text file, The initial part of this text message .Is all the Email Properties, including a couple of previous forwards followed by what looks like the character encoding that should be the jpeg Image. The sender is having the same problem with other recipients.
when Outlook Express removed all my attached files in my email by claiming that the attachments were unsafe. May I know how to stop Outlook Express from doing so in order that I can read the attached files
When I attempt to open an attachment in outlook express, I get the pop up box "do you want to open this file" but when I click open instead of doing so, it opens another window to save as but will not let me open the attachment. I'm running Windows XP V2002 SP3. Even when I go straight to my documents from the home screen and try to open any attachment previously saved I get the same "save as" box but am still unable to open anything
I suddenly find that I am unable to view .jpg file attchments that I receive on my e-mails -- I am using Outlook Express. When I attempt to view I receive a message "action is only valid for products that are installed".I looked thru help and options but unable to find anything to reslove
I have Windows XP Home operating and use Microsoft Office 2000. Under Internet Options I have selected Outlook Express for my email service and this has been working satisfactorily for over 2 years. Recently when choosing to send a photo file as an email attachment, I get directed to Microsoft Outlook which has no "send" option. Two other users on my computer have no problems and automatically get Outlook Express for the same procedure. Why doesn't Outlook Express come up for me?

At the bottom of OE I find the following, "0 message(s), 0 unread, 297010 not downloaded" How do I get rid of all these not downloaded messages? I have deleted all messages from the box. Also if I look in "Local Drive (C)" and in folder "Outlook Express Stored Folder" it shows the following "microsoft.public.windowsxp.help and support.dbx" at 267,707 kb I am getting messages to compress files to get more space. Can I delete the folder "microsoft.public.windowsxp.help and support.dbx"? And will it automatically be replaced. I also use "Catch Up" , Sync setting are set for "New Messages Only"
Somehow my clock was a month out for a short period and all my outgoing messages in OE were wrongly dated. Is there some way I can re-date them? Otherwise, these messages will not appear in the correct date order in the sent items folder and this is important to me.
I have Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer 7.0 in all 3 computers, but this particular computer displays the error message whenever it open Outlook Express. After I click the "OK" button and close the message window, everything works fine.It appears to be associated with Windows Messenger 5.1.0701, which I don't use and don't have running in the background.
created an identity on Windows XP for each of my parents. Tried to set it up where Outlook Express could be used identically from both identities, but could not. Used the Import/Export from OE to attempt to send the address book and messages to other identity, and now they aren't found in either identity's OE program. When I tried to import the address book back into main identity's OE, an error message stated that it won't retrieve that folder

ATI required installation of MS .Net 1.1 for its display driver. After installation, Windows now displays the number of unread emails in Outlook Express for my username logon. It shows # of messages in "Account A", # messages in "Account B", etc... How do I disable that and restore it to just the password field?
I have a user who cannot open DOC attachments in Outlook 2003. When she tries to open the attachment, it attempts to open the file in Excel. When she opens a doc file stored on the hard drive, it opens correctly, so I know it isn't a Windows file type association issue.
I am using outlook express to check my email but i want to use microsoft out look, and i want all my last emails to be transfered to micosoft out look. help me how to transfer my inbox, sent items and address book from outlook Express to microsoft out look.
After installing Windows XP Home it disabled my Outlook & Outlook Express. When I try to open either program, a message states that it is an out-of-date version, then the windows installer comes up, then an error saying it cannot find 'omint.dll' cannot be found. I have tried to reinstall Outlook from XP, then from Office 2003 disks (original and a second copy with service packs), but I cannot get installer to install the programs

On Windows XP, when I click on "Search," I come to a "Windows Search" screen that has "Desktop" and "Web" as choices for a search. I typed in ".pst" and got a bunch of Outlook messages and not where the Outlook .pst folder is. Is there another choice for "Search" that will show me where the searched-for is?
