Search Desktop Screen - Bunch Of Outlook Messages
Jul 5, 2010
On Windows XP, when I click on "Search," I come to a "Windows Search" screen that has "Desktop" and "Web" as choices for a search. I typed in ".pst" and got a bunch of Outlook messages and not where the Outlook .pst folder is. Is there another choice for "Search" that will show me where the searched-for is?

I use Windows 2000 professional edition. It has both service pack 4 and ws2_32 package.I was trying to install iTune. After I restarted after installation, the process stopped at a blue screen saying there is a critical error,or something like that. So I restarted computer and this time used F8 button to make it start at last known good configuration. When Windows started again, iTune finished installation. Then a bunch error messages popped up from various software's. The messages included ws2_32.dll invalid or too old, sockets initiation fail, and TCP/IP not installed. On top of that the internet stopped working. I have tried installing ws2_32 package again, but it didn't work. I am about to try reinstall service pack 4 roll up 1.

I installed a Windows update Upon reboot, system went into Check Disk and reported multiple errors. Once Windows loaded, a bunch of DOS shell windows began opening. Then every program he clicked gave an error message that the DLL file was missing. He has IE running and MSN Messenger; no sound.error message and then had him try to open Add/Remove Programs at the cmd prompt. It wouldn't, and the error message given was: Error in shell32.dll Missing entry: control_run.dll NOD32 system scan hung up at 20% so he gave up on that. He says his computer occasionally runs Check Disk on reboot.

Also if I look in "Local Drive (C)" and in folder "Outlook Express Stored Folder" it shows the following "microsoft.public.windowsxp.help and support.dbx" at 267,707 kb I am getting messages to compress files to get more space. Can I delete the folder "microsoft.public.windowsxp.help and support.dbx"? And will it automatically be replaced. I also use "Catch Up" , Sync setting are set for "New Messages Only"

nearly all my email in Outlook Express in Win 2k comes with the attachment paper clip icon, even tho most of the email has no attachment. Needless to say, I'm a little nervous about attachments anyhow and am reluctant to open email from people I know. I have my provider's Earthlink spam filter on and am using AVG's email scanner

Somehow my clock was a month out for a short period and all my outgoing messages in OE were wrongly dated. Is there some way I can re-date them? Otherwise, these messages will not appear in the correct date order in the sent items folder and this is important to me.

I have Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer 7.0 in all 3 computers, but this particular computer displays the error message whenever it open Outlook Express. After I click the "OK" button and close the message window, everything works fine.It appears to be associated with Windows Messenger 5.1.0701, which I don't use and don't have running in the background.

created an identity on Windows XP for each of my parents. Tried to set it up where Outlook Express could be used identically from both identities, but could not. Used the Import/Export from OE to attempt to send the address book and messages to other identity, and now they aren't found in either identity's OE program. When I tried to import the address book back into main identity's OE, an error message stated that it won't retrieve that folder

ATI required installation of MS .Net 1.1 for its display driver. After installation, Windows now displays the number of unread emails in Outlook Express for my username logon. It shows # of messages in "Account A", # messages in "Account B", etc... How do I disable that and restore it to just the password field?

Lately, I am getting the notorious "blue screen of death" (BSOD) quite often, after re-awakening the computer out of its "sleep mode" (not by simply shutting off and restarting). I seem not to be the only one having trouble with "sleep mode",judging from the several pages on the Internet dedicated to this MS problem. The BSOD messages I get are either: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA or DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL The first is (more or less) documented by Microsoft, but offers no real solution, the second does not even appear in the Microsoft list and/or Resource Kit!

that use AIM and she has been begging me to install it for her so she can talk to them. After installing AIM the next day I noticed the following. At startup a program is launched called "Desktop Search" which puts a small search window just above my system tray. This program does not work and will not respond when trying to close the program from the Task Manager. The program is not listed in "ADD/REMOVE Software" in the control panel. I have run both ADAWARE-SE and SPYBOT S&D, and have not had any results. The only reference to this program that I can find is in the registry under;HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
There are 2 entries; Desktop Search, and FFIS. Both are type REG_SZ and the Values are C:WINDOWSisrvsDesktopSearch.exe

I need advice on which of the most current Windows desktop search products to use with an aging Thinkpad R40 (Centrino 1.4GHz / 512mb shared)? I generally search emails but need something that can do it with minimal impact to my already sluggish pc (priority), and with a usable (low-learning curve) interface.

I have 20 icons on my desktop. Only 7 of them act up. When I left click some icons, the "search" window opens instead of the program I wish to open. When I right click these same icons, the menu box opens that gives me choices ( open, explore, send to, copy etc) as it should However, the top selection in the drop down box (highlighted) is "search" instead of "open".As a routine now, I must right click and icon, choose "open" from the drop down box, and go about my business. How did "search" get into the box to begin with, why are only some of the icons infected, how do I get rid of it.I just installed my new "anti everything" renewal for 2005 (Norton) and it saw nothing, (The Norton icon also has this problem) I've tried freeby spyware remover etc.. nothing. I deleted the infected icons, went back into explorer and created new shortcuts.

When I boot up my computer, Windows desktop search indexes my computer. This causes the computer to take 10 minutes or longer to boot up. In the tray on the lower right of screen I can see a magnifying glass. If I click on it I get Windows Desktop Search Index Status. Once the items left to scan reaches 0, my computer runs fine. Until then it is extremely slow and unusable. This just started happening about a month ago.

My system runs XP Prof (with SP1, but NOT, SP2 updates) and I have IE 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp1.020828 installed. when I click on any desktop shortcut, or even Outlook email underlined links, instead of opening an internet web page, XP gives me an error message saying "It can't find such-and-such url. Then a blank IE page opens up with no address in the address box.I have tried to repair XP by running the command: sfc/scannow, which in turn asks for the XP Prof install CD to locate any missing files, etc. Then I also tried re-installing IESP1 in hopes of fixing the problem that way. Neither of these efforts has remedied the problem.

You can easily create an icon on your desktop that allows you to compose and sand a mail by double clicking on it without opening Outlook Express.1- Find a free space on your desktop and right click on it on New -> Shortcut2- Enter in the space 'mailto:' (w/out quotes)3- Press 'Next' button.4- Enter in the space a name for the icon (i use 'mail')5- Click 'finish'.That's it.

I use XP Home edition. I do not know how I have change the Window operating system setting that when I double click on most of the folders in my computer it goes to a searh menu. Only "My Document" folder is working correctly (when I double click on it, it opens the folder rather than going to search mode). I have tried all the folder's option setting and anything else I can think of, still the folders do not open properly. I have to right click on the folder and select open option. Above "Open" option there is "Search" option in bold letters.

I'm having a somewhat-recurring issue wherein I'll play a PopCap or SOE Game and be interrupted by the dreaded BSOD. When I go into my event viewer and look at the only red-exclamation-point item I can, I see the following (two items, both appear in the log at exactly the same time. In this case, the game was Free Realms. As you'll note from the error, it appears to be related to the Windows Search Service. I've attached the minidump to this link, for those of you uber-XP-experts that can understand it. Also, I keep this PC maintained pretty well. I run anti-malware software on a regular basis, use ClamWin for my antivirus, and avoid iffy-websites.

My Windows XP (SP2) screen display is set for 32 bit color. Whenever I open Outlook (Office 2003 with all updates installed), the screen blanks, then reloads with 8 bit color. If I change it to 32 bit while Outlook is open, after about 30 seconds, the same blank-reload happens. When I exit Outlook, the sequence reverses, (blank -32 bit reloads). I have tried resetting my display resolution, from every program, nothing works. Interestingly, changing from a CRT to an LCD monitor has made no difference at all.

for some reason i was under the impression that my work computer had virus protection. well... nope. i had to reload the o/s (windows 2000 pro) after the computer crashed but fortunately i lost none of my data, mostly because i keep it on a thumb drive so i can work on it at home. i now have norton AV on it and got rid of more than 14 viruses or threats, and now i am wondering if anything else was left that wasn't detected. oh, and the computer is a dell optiplex gx150 workstation.
