Does anyone know how to pipe a directory listing in windows to a text or excel file which includes the file summary data, e.g.Title Comment Author Owner field.

Root of C: and any directory with a large (>3Gb) file or many files/directories is now taking up to 10 seconds to list on a P4 3Ghz 1Gb RAM.WinXP Home, SP2. Defragged, run scandisk, emptied temp files, deleted restore points and other junk, turned off antivirus just to see if it was that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently gotten over a 2 month long problem with downloader trojans. My computer was so choked with pop ups that it would freeze. I am sure that is a common problem, but the interesting part is that I was not able to find any program that could isolate the problem and get rid of it. I tried practically every recommended program I could find without success. Then I happened to find the problem. task manager was unable to close an exe file. I searched and found it buried in my Windows directory.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOn my windows xp pro machine in the winnt directory, I see about 20 or more KBnnnnnn.txt files (ie kb86783, kb873333, kb86185). They appear to be some kind of log file but I have not clue. Can they be deleted? Anyone know what they are?
I do have a problem with this laptop in that the first time I turn it on, it freezes at the windows splash screen and I have to turn it off and on again before it boots. This used to happen only when I used the modem, but now it's daily.
I'm attaching one of the files so you can see if it makes any sense.
Now that I look more at this directory, there are a bunch of Q files too. Can these be deleted? I'm attaching one of these too.
I had a problem with not being able to list files from my cds on my new laptops dvd drive (with winxp home). I could play files from the cds but not browse files on the cd. After intstalling ASPI drivers it all worked fine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I attempt to open a file or to get a directory listing in Windows explorer I have a delay of about 12 seconds. Before I get a listing (within a program) I see where it says at the top "Open - not responding". After eventually getting the listing I will be able to obtain another listing quite quickly while in that program. If I exit the program and go to another as from Word to Excel I again experience the slow listing and the "Open - not responding" before the listing shows. Long ago I had a similar problem where the listing took an even 30 seconds to appear and it was determined to be a virus. Nothing shows in any of my virus scans.

The "software" file (which is the file that the original blue screen error message says is "corrupt, absent or not writable") will not copy to the new tmp directory to create the backup. My understanding from the article is that this backup file (software.bak) will later be used to restore correct settings for various software applications. I had a major crash and had to reinstall my Windows XP SP2, so I have had to reinstall most of my programs. Now whenever I load Excel, it takes a minute to "install excel features". I would think one install of whatever features it is installing would be sufficient. Why does it keep installing the same features and how can I get it to quit doing this?I am using Excel 2003 on a Gygabyte GA-8IEX mother board with a Pentium IV 2.53 cpu.

The text file would have to be in this way: I am using graburl to update my host of my location, so I thou ht that I could use graburl to do something like this. If it is not possible to include date and time in the text file it is not completely required. However the latest IP address would have to be at the top of the list not at the bottom This must also happen even if date and time columns are in the list.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI recently reinstalled Windows XP Home w/SP2 on a system and everything worked well. I also installed a Seagate 500 GB HDD as a slave drive. I had no problems assigning a drive letter (D:) and mapping it as a network drive. Then yesterday, a Windows error message popped up saying there was "Delayed Write Failure" or something similar. It was at that point the the slave drive became inaccessible. I can still see the drive in My Computer but that is all. I went into disk management and click on properties, it says the file system is "RAW". I have no idea what that means.
The drive is still assigning a drive letter (d:) and it says is it is healthy (active). However, when I try exploring the drive it says "D: is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"." I then tried using CHKDSK to check the drive for errors in the DOS prompt. But again, nothing happened. I used Seagate Diagnostic tools to scan the drive for errors. There is nothing physically wrong with the drive as it passed all the tests except for the file structure test.

Even if the batch file contains only just the one line.If the batch file is in any other directory, it works fine. Of course, I keep all my batch files in the same directory ("C:Program FilesBruce"), and I can find nothing anywhere in Windows that should cause this directory to be any different than any other. Please Run the Chkdsk Utility. error.I always try and run checkdisk, but then it comes up with the exact same error trying to load Checkdisk.
I end up Reformatting, and reloading everything, and then almost Exactly, The Same thing happens in a week... or just under. (its been 6 days now i think since the last time)
