Unable To Execute File In The Temporary Directory ?
Sep 1, 2009
Trying to install a downloaded program, ERROR 5 Unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Setup aborted. Error 5: Access Denied First time ever with this problem.
I am running Windows XP Professional with SP3 and I'm the Administrator. Anyhow, I'm trying to execute a basic .exe MZ file from the cmd. I get "This program cannot be run in DOS mode". I don't understand why an .exe, the most basic one MZ cannot be run in dos mode. Is this a restriction set by the Administrator? (Maybe in control panel-administrative tools-local security policy?) I've done some reading and have heard that I may need to tweak some options by right clicking on the title bar of the cmd shell and changing something that has to deal with not letting windows interefere or that windows compatibility is turned on. However, I think that option is only for Windows 98 and is not available in winxp pro.
I have been searching for some lost photos on my Toshiba satellite with windows 98. I ran a search and found the photos searching for *.jpg but the file it says they are in is the Temporary internet file and Temp folder. I know these folders save info from the web pages I've viewed so I'm trying to find out where those pics were viewed on. Does this make sense?
I'm in the process of repair/recovery of my machine (Dell Inspiron 8500 with Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2). I'm following exactly the instructions in:
http://attachments.techguy.org/attac...chmentid=62075, but a problem has developed. The "software" file (which is the file that the original blue screen error message says is "corrupt, absent or not writable") will not copy to the new tmp directory to create the backup. My understanding from the article is that this backup file (software.bak) will later be used to restore correct settings for various software applications. Since I can't copy it, it appears that I am screwed,
"the directory or file cannot be created", when I try to move my files around. This just started today, I have spent hours online trying to find a solution .so now I am asking here.
I have Windows XP Pro everytime I download a file the Open, Open Folder, Save As, Save box doesn't open up and the file downloads automatically to my Temporary Folder, any way of configuring the settings for the box available?
For some reason,I have about 200 temporary files in the WindowsTemp folder that look a lot like registry entries. They are hidden files, and I have been unable to delete them. They all begin with CS, and have a time-stamp that coincides with bootup. Here is one:CS2F1A1E2B-3FE4-44EE-80E5-22C16FD91008.tmp I get an error message that the files are in use, but I can't figure out what is using them. I also tried to access them from Safe Mode command prompt. They don't show up there.
I was recently cleaning my hard drive when I used the standard windows disk cleanup and cleared my files in my browser. Now when I try and download something through a link, windows downloader starts and then an error message comes up saying "Documents and Settingsxx xxLocal SettingsTemporary Internet FilesContent. IE55FV3XLWE [file name] is missing. There is no such folder in my temporary internet files folder yet I can't create or create in local settings and drag and drop. I can download if I save target as but would rather repair the problem.
I use Windows Explorer to access the subject folder to make sure Internet Explorer has deleted the cache and usually I could see one file in the Content. IE5 folder named index.dat. I've been doing this for years without any problems. A couple of weeks ago I went to do this and I was unable to see the folder structure below the Temporary Internet Files folder nor the index.dat file. But if I log on as another user I can see the Content.IE5 folder, file index.dat, and the randomly named subfolders beneath folder Content.IE5. I checked the Windows Explorer properties to see if my view was being restricted but the settings appear to be the same for both user IDs.
i am wanting to know when i am in a website and i want to open the file it downloads to the temporary file location and then nothing. It doesnt open or anything how do i get it to either change the file location where it goes to or just to open...
Unable to send or recieve email due to error telling me that my temp folder is full or corrupted. I have emptied the temp folders with disk cleanup and have also run ScanDisk. I have a temp folder with a path of (c:) Is this correct. I do not have a temp folder with a path of c:windows.
when accessing any application or programme from my hard drive I get the following error message "The file or directory c: is corrupt and unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility." I then click to get rid of the error message and the utility works fine. I have run chkdsk several times but it does not shift this error message.
I recently reinstalled Windows XP Home w/SP2 on a system and everything worked well. I also installed a Seagate 500 GB HDD as a slave drive. I had no problems assigning a drive letter (D:) and mapping it as a network drive. Then yesterday, a Windows error message popped up saying there was "Delayed Write Failure" or something similar. It was at that point the the slave drive became inaccessible. I can still see the drive in My Computer but that is all. I went into disk management and click on properties, it says the file system is "RAW". I have no idea what that means.
The drive is still assigning a drive letter (d:) and it says is it is healthy (active). However, when I try exploring the drive it says "D: is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"." I then tried using CHKDSK to check the drive for errors in the DOS prompt. But again, nothing happened. I used Seagate Diagnostic tools to scan the drive for errors. There is nothing physically wrong with the drive as it passed all the tests except for the file structure test.
File or Directory C:$MFT is corrupt or unreadable. Run CHKDSK /f.Got this message on a WinXP Home SP2 box. I can't run chkdsk /f because I'm using the disk (obviously) When I reboot however, the system does it's own chkdsk but doesn't find any errors. The message keeps coming back. I don't get any hits when I search the KB.
I use a batch files for various maintenance stuff.Get this: When the batch file (.bat or .cmd), is in ONE PARTICULAR DIRECTORY, the defrag command in it echos endlessly, but doesn't execute. Even if the batch file contains only just the one line.If the batch file is in any other directory, it works fine. Of course, I keep all my batch files in the same directory ("C:Program FilesBruce"), and I can find nothing anywhere in Windows that should cause this directory to be any different than any other. Addition a few minutes later: Now the simple one-line batch file will sometimes work, sometimes not work, when in other directories. This is weird.
I am trying to write a batch file to strip the 4 leading characters from the name of all files in a directory. I tried using rename but was not having any luck getting the pattern matching to strip the characters off. Please let me know if anyone knows a way to do this in a batch file.
How do I set it up so that when I boot up I automatically open in the root directory (C:). That is, I don't want to have to click on My Computer, C: each time I boot up.
When my Norton Internet Security 2005 runs a disk drive scan it locates a file it identified as Spyware in the Windows Directory. The file name is symentra .exe. I've currently blocked access to the Internet for this file but when it tries to access it just keeps trying relentlessly. Does anyone know if I need this file or is there a way to delete it?
I really need some help here. I have a second HD with no OP system on which I just use to store most of my music, pics, documents etc. The problem is when I click on one of the folders (my most important one I get the message "file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"I really need to get to this folder,
the file or directory C:\windows is corrupt and unreadable If I restore factory settings will this fix problem? I've run chkdsk utility a million times with no luck
I have recently gotten over a 2 month long problem with downloader trojans. My computer was so choked with pop ups that it would freeze. I am sure that is a common problem, but the interesting part is that I was not able to find any program that could isolate the problem and get rid of it. I tried practically every recommended program I could find without success. Then I happened to find the problem. task manager was unable to close an exe file. I searched and found it buried in my Windows directory.
OS is Win 2K. I have a folder containing about 150 files Using Explorer, I can open the folder and view a list of the files. Is there any way to save that list as a text document?
I dont know when it started, but almost exactly after a week or so of me using this machine, it comes up with a The File or Directory C: is corrupt and unreadable. Please Run the Chkdsk Utility. error.I always try and run checkdisk, but then it comes up with the exact same error trying to load Checkdisk. I end up Reformatting, and reloading everything, and then almost Exactly, The Same thing happens in a week... or just under. (its been 6 days now i think since the last time)
Cannot Delete Projects: The File Or Directory Is Corrupt Or Unreadable Keep getting this message when i try to delete a folder on my computer and whatever i do it wont delete
Does anyone know how to pipe a directory listing in windows to a text or excel file which includes the file summary data, e.g.Title Comment Author Owner field.
I recently (two weeks ago) upgraded my system from W98 to W2k. The first time I installed, the program , I did it keeping my w98 folders etc. Ther were some errors and I tried to re-install, choosing the overwrite option. (also downloaded service pack one! I tried to download service pack 4 but it told me there was not enough memory) I have been left with two W2k directories. I have been using the most recent one (the preferred one) and have slowly been copying my important files using my flash disk from the other W2k directory. The only problem I have had is that althought the drivers and soft ware are installed, everytime I connect and switch my digital camera on, the sytem reboots. Iwanted to "defrag " the preferred W2k directory but was told there was not enough disk space. I thought then to uninstall programs on the other W2k diectory that I was not using. ie. mainly software etc for which I have disk and have reinstalled on the preferred W2k directory. Well after I had finished I rebooted, and then the trouble began! I cannot get into the "preferred" W2k directory. I swear I did not change or remove any settings or programs.
I have a Pentium 4, Windows XP Home Edition and this problem is driving me mad. My pc says dskchkr.exe - application error. When I try to run diskchecker it says "it is unable to run in autofix mode because volume c: is in use by another application" and asks if i want to schedule it to run on startup. It will not run on startup. I also have had this message onscreen "The file or directory c:WINDOWSPrefetchMCUIMGR.exe-0E667E1B.pf is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility. !!! I have taken Macafee off my pc (or I HOPE so), and now I have NO diskchecker on AT ALL. I think I have some programs on which I thought I had removed but I cant get rid of them all without paying. Im losing my mind !!!!
This just started happening. When I click START-RUN, I can no longer just type in msconfig or cmd. I must type in msconfig.exe or cmd.exe. Even when I get into the command prompt, I cannot just type in ping, i must type ping.exe Is there any way to fix this problem?
