Now whenever I load Excel, it takes a minute to "install excel features". I would think one install of whatever features it is installing would be sufficient. Why does it keep installing the same features and how can I get it to quit doing this?I am using Excel 2003 on a Gygabyte GA-8IEX mother board with a Pentium IV 2.53 cpu.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to create a system restore disc, like the ones provided with new pc's?I have just used the restore disc for my brothers pc after many problems with corrupt system files that I couldn't repair. We have everything running ok at the moment and are about to install a new dvd writer.I intend to set a system restore point, but if the problem we have just recovered from should resurface, where I could not access windows I would like to be able to use the system restore disc in the future.Assuming that changing hardware would render the manufacturers restore disc useless, how can I create a disc that will be as straightforward to use as the original?

The problem is that the XP CD is the original RTM version and my system has been updated to SP1 and SP2. The installation program wanted to install older versions of the files from the CD over the existing versions. I found some but not all the files I needed for the installation in the folder "Service Pack Files."Is there some way to create a CD that contains all the current system files that I need to repair XP SP2. Sort of a current snapshot. It would not have to be an installation disk, just a repair disk.It would be nice to be able to get a installation disk that is current without having to pay for a new full version of XP. After all these years my system is so garbaged up that dumping it and starting over is appealing. I do not want to start with my RTM and then run all the upgrades, it would take forever. Microsoft must realize that there are a lot of people with
the same problem. Perhaps someone could convince them to come up with a cleanup tool.
For what ever reason my computer won't create restore points anymore. I've tried a couple of things suggested like disabling restore points then enabling it, letting it just sit idle and I've checked that I have enough room ( there's lots of room ). The last time I used restore was about 9 to 12 months ago and it was working fine then. So I'm just looking for some ideas as to what else I might try. My o/s is XP Home.

When I start my computer, I get an error message that reads: "Cannot Create Shell Notification System Icon" I don�t know what is it, I think that has something to do with the icons on the toolbar, in fact, when my computer starts with that message, quite icons in toolbar disappear. View 7 Replies View RelatedAt bootup, I get the message that windows can't create a virtual memory page or it is set too low.I have tried resetting the virtual memory in the Control Panel>System (Nothing works-Windows recommends 768M but only reports 256M. Setting the Min/Max has no effect.I have checked security in Explorer's Security Tab (in Safe Mode) and it is set for Everyone > Full Control.I have tried "spf /scannow" - no effect.I have no "pagefile.sys" in the C drive root directory (the "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.)I have looked and followed the various links that have been suggested and nothing seems to help. The various register cleaners all report tons of errors. Are any of these worth the $20 to $40? Will they fix my problem? If the only solution is to reinstall Windows, should I wait for Vista and start over with it? Will Vista run on a 4 year old laptop?

In the list of programs on the new Start menu was EXCEL.EXE, but the icon was wrong and when I clicked on it, it couldn't find Excel. I went to the properties of the link and changed EXCEL.EXE to Excel. It still not working, I deleted the link.Now whenever I click on an icon on my desktop, the system tries to open it with Excel. Apparently the change screwed something up, but I do not know how to get back to where I was before.

In 2000 when I had multiple workbooks open and used ALT + TAB there would just be one icon for Excel, now there's one for each workbook I have open. View 1 Replies View RelatedI just install SP2 the other day and there are a few fixes I need, I've gotten more of the compatitbility issue Number 1 is with Excel. When I open up any workbook it treats the left mouse button as pressed. So when I go to click on any cell is highlights it and tries to select an entire group. The only way for me to close the program is to use the taskmanager or right click the program on my start bar.Number 2 is WMP. Some video files I had don't play sound anymore and I have all the same codecs as before.

I had the Office XP installation disk "repair" the installation. there was no change. I tried MSWord. Help screen was same as in Excel - blank. I then tried to access Help and Support Center from the Start Menu. It would not open. I solved the probem by running the restore tool from the System Tools folder and setting the machine back to a time 1 week earlier, but I have no idea what would cause this issue. My machine uses ZoneAlarm Pro, Norton Anti-Virus, Sunbelt CounterSpy and is behind a router so I don't think it was the result of a malicious program.
