View 9 Replies View RelatedLately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank

computer (WinXP SP2 - 1GB RAM) just started in the last day or two to load really slow -- it takes a good half hour or more to get to the point where you can click on an icon and it takes a few minutes to open. Don't even ask about the internet. it did not download anything in the last few days and has no idea why this is happening.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a number of XP computers (all SP2) connected to the Net via a wireless modem/router. Everything was fine until a few days ago when my connection speed dramatically slowed after being online for a few hours. This happens to all of the PCs in my home - so it's nothing internal to my PC. I tried to transfer a large file across the wireless network and it transferred fine (5Mb in 10 seconds). I can also connect to the router's web management software without problem. So it's not the wireless connection. Which leaves either my modem/router or my broadband connection. The router's "DSL" light is always on which infers that my broadband connection is OK. So that leaves my modem/router.
I have run sfc scan now (because the startup of win xp was slower than before ( i count the 3 blue bars when xp is loading, and it was increased from 6 to 11) and asks the win xp cd. after the check, I rerun the sfc scannow, to be sure that everything is ok, but asks again for winxp cd (there is still corrupted files?). I run sfc /purgecache, then again scannow to refill the cache, and after i rerun the scannow it still asks for the xin xp cd!!! what is going on here?(note that i have win xp pro gr without sp2, after the installation i installed sp2. I re instaled the sp2, rerun the sfc /purgecache , then scannow, and again the scannow and still asks for the win xp cd.)

There are 5 Excel files open at the same time, but the icon only lists the active one.Until about an hour ago if I had 5 files open the Excel icon stated this and I could click on the icon to choose the file I wanted to work on and I LIKED IT THAT WAY

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that my internet connection is pretty slow on my main computer. It's an older (6 years) Dell. I'm still running XP and IE7. I have Comcast cable and it's connected through a Linksys modem. The problem is that the internet response on this machine is pretty slow. I have a laptop that I use and that is much better. I would figure that my "main" computer would be faster since it has a hard connection, not wireless. I know that isn't much info so ask away and I do what I can to provide all the info needed.

It has been starting and shutting down extremely slow. When I go on the internet, it's been slow. Last night I installed IE8, and the problem got worse. It was even slower. So I did a System Restore just now, and it seems just as slow as after installing IE8, but now I'm back to IE6
View 14 Replies View Relatedrecently my computer takes ages to get passed the Windows XP load screen. Sometimes the scrolling bars stop and it freezes before i it loads the desktop. It works if i safe boot it, but often it doesn't pass the Windows XP startup screen, or it takes a long time (approx 100s) to get passed it. Before it only took at most 10 seconds. It don't know why it's doing it. I've tried running a registry mechanic, prefetch cleaner and all that jazz. But it's still taking awhile to get passed that XP screen.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy desktop has decieded to add the 'menu' bar down trhe left had side of the screen. It is the same as the type which appears on the left hand side of open folders in XP. I created a new user account and it was OK until the screen went into screen saver and I needed to log back in and the problem was there again. This appears to have only started to happen when I added my XP laptop to the wired network.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy laptop (Toshiba) used to have a feature where if you clicked on the right side of mousepad, you could drag the page up and down, similar to the scroll wheel on mouses if you click them down.Anyways, a few months ago, I upgraded my computer to Windows Vista. And I hated it. So I used my restore disk, to get back to Windows XP. Well, when I went back, this feature wasn't working. Today I used an IBM computer, and it had this feature, and it reminded me of how often I used to use it.So my question is if there is any way to re-program this feature? My laptop also used to have a feature that if you held your finger on a corner of the mousedpad, it would open up a different menu, depending on how you configured it. That feature doesn't work either. I don't care if I get that feature back, I'm just assuming the two issues are linked.

1. When I'm opening any doc file (Word 2007) or PPT file, the file appears with the maximum zoom (400%), without the ability to change back the zoom to 100%.Also, I can't scroll the file up or down !
2. The resolution of the projector's screen and the laptop's screen is changing (Once I'm click on "Fun F8"), so I can see it all as a 200% Zoom.Refer to the expert's diagnostic:
Once I'm replacing my HardDisk by another one, the phenomenon is disappear, which mean, we have to format the HD & re-install the XP.
I tried to set the "scroll programs" But it will not do it.
