Before I do too much to the machine I want to uninstall any unnecssary programs, which I have a lot. But, the Add/Remove Program tool does not want to open.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIf your list of software in "All Programs" starts going off the screen you can return to the old style of having them scroll,this also makes them all expand to the right and not on top of each other, which makes selection easier.Goto start - control panel - taskbar and start menu - start menu - customise advanced - and then scroll down start menu items list, near bottom is the choice to "scroll programs", tick it and apply , ok all screens and your done.

There is no Change/Remove button in Add/Remove Programs but the program is there, 150 MB, and the file suggested on the HP website for uninstalling older printers from XP produces a message that it's "unsupported" can't remember exact verbiage, been a while since last tried. Even reinstalled in the hopes that a message would come up to the effect "this program is already installed, do you want install to remove it prior to completing this install," but it just installs the printer again with a number after it ... I'm up to "hp officejet g series - 3."

Now when I go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel no list is displayed, just the window saying to wait for list population. I've waited up to 15 min but there's no icon or any indication that anything is trying to happen. Other categories in CP work fine. So I'm not sure if the culprit would be the applet itself, the service pack or one of the priority updates, if any. I considered doing a system restore, I'll do it if so advised. It also uses up a lot of RAM for some reason but the CPU usage is normal. When I attempt to uninstall a program, the corresponding programs "uninstaller", asks for a network resource. Here is an example screen shot of what I am seeing when I attempt to uninstall Ad Aware: It doesn't seem to matter what I am attempting to uninstall. In all of the uninstall scenarios that I have seen Add / Remove programs asks for an MSI file with a similar name to the program that I am attempting to uninstall.
