Operating System - Windows XP running on a HP Pavillion 761n - Missing dll files such as:mscvr80.dll and msvcp80.dll. Can't seem to find these files anywhere or I just don't know where to locate them.
View 2 RepliesOur family computer is running like a slug. It takes forever to startup and open programs and the hard drive activity light is always on. It also uses up a lot of RAM for some reason but the CPU usage is normal. I have another hard drive that is in a removable tray that I use, and that has all the same settings and everything, but that one is using a fraction of the RAM and runs pretty good!

View 10 Replies View RelatedEvery thing runs pretty slow, Firefox takes 5+ seconds to switch tabs, Thunderbird takes almost that long to open messages, Gaim's buddy list scrolling is extremely slow, Paint Shop Pro/Gimp/Photoshop filters take almost double the time they do on my other weaker IBM (see computer specs). It's just terribly slow.

There has been no changes made to my machine and I scanned for viruses on this machine and nothing is found. Could I get some help in why this is computer is a lag-a-holic? So whenever i start up the computer once it hits the Blue Welcome Xp screen it will stay there for atleast 30sec, i mean my mouse shows and i can move it but im just waitin there until it fully loads. I mean like 8 minutes or more, could it have to do with the programs that are started when the computer strarts if so how can I find the folder. It takes 5 to 6 minutes to boot and then takes on some dialog boxes when clicking 7 seconds to activate, (Show on Screen) and on others, takes 14 to 21 seconds to activate? Sometime you even see the searching flashlite on the screen when you click. The same thing happens with the right click context menu. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a main WIN XP Home Edition based computer with an Intel 3118 chip, 2GB RAM,190GB Hard drive with 126GB free, additional drive via USB with 470 GB and 399GB free and networked with a laptop and Dell computer all able to read each other. On the main computer I have 60+ icons on the desktop and have Zone Alarm Security Suite and Forcefield running updated.I have cleaned all computers with Crap Cleaner and Esaycleaner have defragged and deleted all unwanted files but still it takes some 9-10 minutes to boot from hot or cold and the close down of programs also takes between 1-2 minutes.

View 9 Replies View Relatedmy add -remove programs list in control panel takes a long time to compile the list. even with "show updates" unchecked. there are a couple that wont remove, games that my son installed and free trial ran out. one list under "start-programs" and the uninstall button leads to the documents folder, and "remove" says some file is missing. it still has a file in program files also.

It takes a very long time to even load the interface fully. Most of the programs in Startup (MSConfig)also do not load. I have recently installed Norton 2005. I have scanned the system for Trojans, viruses, SpywareAdware etc. But nothing shows up. Is it because of NAV?? MSConfig/Startup also does not have any unknown entries.

My Windows XP OS has just been repaired due to a stop error. One of my RAM cards (I have two installed previously) has also been removed because the technician deemed that it was the cause of the stop error.Now my question is, is it the cause of the slow down? I mean having a smaller RAM? I'm thinking that it could be the cause but I'm having second thoughts because I only had 1 RAM card installed way back but the stalling of the "Windows is starting up" screen never happened. I've had a slow running PC, yes, but I never had to wait that long for the "log-in" screen to show up (10 seconds tops). I only have 6.46 GB free space now which is small
Last week i turned my computer on and windows xp took so much longer to boot up. when the windows xp loading screen (with the blue progress bar) appears, its there for a few minutes, it used to be a few seconds. I scanned for viruses with Norton, scanned for spyware etc with Ad-Aware and Microsoft's Anti spyware, everything is all clean. All programs are up to date in definitions too. I cleaned my registry(registry mechanic), defragged my drives, done disc cleans, i have 2 programs in my start-up (norton and mcafee firewall) and still no joy. I have also used winxp manager and tried optimizing and xp still takes a long time to load.
