after years of restarting the last two times it seems to have taken a long time. i sign in, the screen eventually turns blue with only my mouse area on the screen. after about three minutes, i hit enter a couple of times, wait longer, hit enter, eventually all is well. but this length of time might be telling me the end is near?
Last week i turned my computer on and windows xp took so much longer to boot up. when the windows xp loading screen (with the blue progress bar) appears, its there for a few minutes, it used to be a few seconds. I scanned for viruses with Norton, scanned for spyware etc with Ad-Aware and Microsoft's Anti spyware, everything is all clean. All programs are up to date in definitions too. I cleaned my registry(registry mechanic), defragged my drives, done disc cleans, i have 2 programs in my start-up (norton and mcafee firewall) and still no joy. I have also used winxp manager and tried optimizing and xp still takes a long time to load.
Over the past few weeks my computer has become very sluggish particularly on the internet. It also takes a very long time for it to switch off at night and invariably I have to switch off manually at the power source.
When i Log off from windows it takes a long time, i shut down all my programs but my firewall before i log off too. my firewall shuts down right away aswell but then it just sits there for a good long time. the other users on my computer do not have this same problem,

A) After I type in my password to go into my desktop, I here the intro windows music sound thing. But it takes about 20 seconds for the desktop to finally show up. Can the answer be found in the hijackthis log that is just below? Can you please tell me if according to the log there is any other problem?
I thought I took really good care of my computer. Bought it this year February (fujitsu lifebook n6010). Run adaware, spybot search & destroy, crapcleaner, registry mechanic, registry fix, diskclean up (only compress old files), and defrag about every 2 weeks
A week ago my pc simply stopped responding while running, and before that moment, there was no indication that anything was wrong. CAD did not respond so the pc was turned off manually and rebooted. It would not load at all. After a few attempts I was finally able to get it to come up in safe mode and attempted a chkdsk which found some errors, then ran chkdsk /f and /r and was finally able to boot up the computer, but the process takes literally 15 minutes.
I've been trying the different troubleshooting suggestions I found at: "10 Things You Can Do When Windows XP Won't Boot Up". I tried bootcfg /rebuild but was scared off of that when prompted to answer some questions after the initial command. I also tried fixmbr DeviceHardDisk0 but came to a point that I received a message saying that "an invalid or nonstandard partition table signature was detected. If you are not having problems accessing your drives, you should not continue. Writing a new master boot record to your system partition could damage your partition tables and cause your partitions to become inaccessible" which also scared me off so I didn't continue.........
I have a batch file that runs a certain program many times, and I want to know if there's a command out there that can time just how long it takes to run the program each time.
My Taskbar and Icons take a long time to appear on the desktop. This started a couple of days ago, but I have since restored the system back to well before this problem started with no luck. I have run AVG and Stinger anti virus scans, as well as MS anti-spyware, Spybot, Adaware, Bazooka, SpywareBlaster, and RegScrubXP, but no help. When my desktop appears, I notice under Processes in Task Manager, that only about half of the 40 or so processes have started. Then after a minute or longer the rest of the processes load. This may be normal, I don't know. Could the processes loading sequence have changed, causing the Taskbar and Icons to load at a later time? Also listed among the processes is Isass.exe which has a scary ring to it. I'll have to Google that one.
My laptop always takes a long time to start up and shut down, and while running can often be quite slow. I have a Dell inspiron 1300 with Windows XP. Do you have any hints or tips on how I might be able to sort this problem out?
Recently my Windows XP HP laptop started taking exceptionally long to load the desktop Icons on bootup. Wondering if something in my registry got messed up recently. Looking for advise on how to troubleshoot this issue so I can fix the long delay in loading the desktop icons.
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
I been running this computer every little thing I load or do takes 3-5 mintues to load, Whether it's winamp or Yahoo Instant Messenger It takes a really long time to load any app of any sort. There has been no changes made to my machine and I scanned for viruses on this machine and nothing is found. Could I get some help in why this is computer is a lag-a-holic? It's been a good machine until it's started to lag.
Currently using XP Pro, SP2 with P4 3.2, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD (90% free). While using explorer to open a folder and display the files in it, the illustrator (ai) files (hundreds of it in one folder) were shown with the generic/windows system icons first and gradually been transform to the Illustrator files icon. The process took so long and made a system in hold/freeze. It happens as well when tried open files using File Open in Adobe Illustrator or Design in the very same folder and files. I've tried solve it using Display Appearance Effect as well as using regedit to modify the value on Max Cached Icons in registry but didn't work.
I bought a new Dell Dimension 2400 about a year ago. It runs Windows XP Home. I don't remember all of my specs (I'm at work), but here is my problem. First, booting up takes a long...time. When I finally log in, I get an error message: HP AiO Device Object failed: hRes = 0x800706BAThe RPC Server is unavailable.Maximum retry attempts exceeded.I click ok and it brings up my desktop, but originally would not bring up my Start button and taskbar. After messing with it all day yesterday, I finally got a taskbar, but not my usual one. I can open some programs, but can't save any files to floppy or CD. Everything is very slow...and I do mean very! Most of the time the Task Manager will show "Not Responding", sometimes it will eventually start running again and sometimes I just have to "End Process".
I just upgraded my computers ram from 256 to 512 mb. the technician added a lot of programs such as virus protection and other hardware. It still takes 5 minutes to get on line. I have a motorola sb4100 modem. What gives?
My computer takes a long time when I try to delete a file (doesn't matter what size or kind of file). Once I click on the file and hit delete the hard drive starts going and after a while I get a confirmation message "Are you sure you want to send file.ext to the recycle bin?" I click yes and then it's hung up again for a while as I watch pieces of paper float accross the screen from a file folder to a recycle bin, and then it finally deletes. This is a new problem on my old machine.I also can't open the recylcing bin, but I can empty it. When I click on the recycle bin it opens a window and shows the "flashlight" icon, the hard drive goes, and it never finished it's process, never displays the recycling bin contents.
I have a Dell E1505 Inspiron laptop running Windows XP Media. It takes a very long time after I type my password in the logon screen to get into the system - it sits for several minutes and then eventually moves again and opens up the desktop. When I click on the icon to connect to the internet wirelessly,it again takes several minutes seems frozen, before it does connect. In addition,I run McAfee on my system and it flashes up a message saying that it blocked a potentially unwanted program GenericPUP.H, but cannot seem to remove it. Also, there is a folder under c:Documents and Settings Programs called vmntoolbar. I found out that this could cause problems also, but I cannot seem to be able to delete it.
Every thing runs pretty slow, Firefox takes 5+ seconds to switch tabs, Thunderbird takes almost that long to open messages, Gaim's buddy list scrolling is extremely slow, Paint Shop Pro/Gimp/Photoshop filters take almost double the time they do on my other weaker IBM (see computer specs). It's just terribly slow.
Currently when I log onto my computer, it takes more than 5 minutes to load. I have already browsed through many threads and have minimized the number of start-up programs. It was a little better but it still wasn't like how it was before. Also, when I want to shutdown my computer, I have to wait 10 minutes before I will hear the "Windows turning-off sound" and it will shutdown. Does anyone have any clue about how to fix this?
The computer in general appears to be running smoothly once everything is loaded into the computer except for when I want to add/remove any programs where there is a huge lag after uninstalling a program! These problems started occurring about a couple days ago. I haven't been doing anything differently nor have I installed any new programs onto the new computer. I have scanned for viruses using Symantec Endpoint Protection (and no results) and also used CCleaner to clean everything else.
Operating System - Windows XP running on a HP Pavillion 761n - Missing dll files such as:mscvr80.dll and msvcp80.dll. Can't seem to find these files anywhere or I just don't know where to locate them.
my add -remove programs list in control panel takes a long time to compile the list. even with "show updates" unchecked. there are a couple that wont remove, games that my son installed and free trial ran out. one list under "start-programs" and the uninstall button leads to the documents folder, and "remove" says some file is missing. it still has a file in program files also.
When I open programs they are slow to respond. I click on the icon but it seems to take for ever to open up but I don't know why. They use to open up fairly quickly before and nothing has changed.
Running XP Home, SP2 w/1 gig. All of a sudden my machine is taking too long to finish a boot. I've not added any soft or hardware before this started.Specifically, the Welcome screen stays up for 30 seconds. Then I get a blank desktop and 30 seconds more elapse before the icons appear. Finally, it takes 1:40 before all tray icons are in place so my total boot time is over 2 1/2 minutes.I've reviewed all Start up items in MSConfig and in my Start up folder, and have run a non-destructive restore. I've used Registry First Aid to check on registry content, and, of course, a virus scan (NAV), and have also defragged.
I have posted this problem before and haven't really gotten it resolved. My computer takes so long to load pages its driving me crazy. I feel like I am on dial up. it takes like a minute for a page to load. I have tried the AFT cleaner
I have windows XP and it takes a while to boot up before going to the windows xp screen. While I'm waiting for it i see white bars that look like this:(they connect when it loads)Before this problem i had my power supply replaced. It worked normally when i got the computer back but i had some blue screens saying 'memory dump'Then the slow bar problem appeared. There was a problem with the system32/config file being missing or corrupt. It said to use the recovery console to repair but I didn't know how, so I just reformatted.
My Windows start-up is pretty decent (after I log-in to my user account). What's taking too long is the "Windows Is Starting Up" screen:It takes about 5 mins. or so before the log-in screen shows up. Anyway, here's what happened prior to this event: My Windows XP OS has just been repaired due to a stop error. One of my RAM cards (I have two installed previously) has also been removed because the technician deemed that it was the cause of the stop error. Now my question is, is it the cause of the slow down? I mean having a smaller RAM? I'm thinking that it could be the cause but I'm having second thoughts because I only had 1 RAM card installed way back but the stalling of the "Windows is starting up" screen never happened. I've had a slow running PC, yes, but I never had to wait that long for the "log-in" screen to show up (10 seconds tops). I only have 6.46 GB free space now which is small
my laptop stays on the ALL BLACK background with WINDOWS XP logo in the middle for almost 5 minutes. This problem has become more troubling to me now, taking hell lotta time. 1 out of 8 times approximate, its amazingly fast, and passes that same screen within 10 seconds. Recently i have installed bitdefender antivirus(earlier had AVG free), but this problem is since before that
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 installed on it.When I try to boot it, it will load well until Windows is booted. Then, it slows down and takes a few minutes to get to the login screen (using the two textbox screen). Then, it takes a few minutes to load a message box with error 0x80090006, Windows can't authenticate. I cannot access safe mode. My friend does not have a repair disk, and I have an XP Home SP0 install disc (from an old computer). Is there a way to fix this issue?
