There has been no changes made to my machine and I scanned for viruses on this machine and nothing is found. Could I get some help in why this is computer is a lag-a-holic? View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Windows start-up is pretty decent (after I log-in to my user account). What's taking too long is the "Windows Is Starting Up" screen:It takes about 5 mins. or so before the log-in screen shows up. Anyway, here's what happened prior to this event:
My Windows XP OS has just been repaired due to a stop error. One of my RAM cards (I have two installed previously) has also been removed because the technician deemed that it was the cause of the stop error. Now my question is, is it the cause of the slow down? I mean having a smaller RAM? I'm thinking that it could be the cause but I'm having second thoughts because I only had 1 RAM card installed way back but the stalling of the "Windows is starting up" screen never happened. I've had a slow running PC, yes, but I never had to wait that long for the "log-in" screen to show up (10 seconds tops). I only have 6.46 GB free space now which is small
Last week i turned my computer on and windows xp took so much longer to boot up. when the windows xp loading screen (with the blue progress bar) appears, its there for a few minutes, it used to be a few seconds. I scanned for viruses with Norton, scanned for spyware etc with Ad-Aware and Microsoft's Anti spyware, everything is all clean. All programs are up to date in definitions too. I cleaned my registry(registry mechanic), defragged my drives, done disc cleans, i have 2 programs in my start-up (norton and mcafee firewall) and still no joy. I have also used winxp manager and tried optimizing and xp still takes a long time to load.

I thought I took really good care of my computer. Bought it this year February (fujitsu lifebook n6010). Run adaware, spybot search & destroy, crapcleaner, registry mechanic, registry fix, diskclean up (only compress old files), and defrag about every 2 weeks
A week ago my pc simply stopped responding while running, and before that moment, there was no indication that anything was wrong. CAD did not respond so the pc was turned off manually and rebooted. It would not load at all. After a few attempts I was finally able to get it to come up in safe mode and attempted a chkdsk which found some errors, then ran chkdsk /f and /r and was finally able to boot up the computer, but the process takes literally 15 minutes.
I've been trying the different troubleshooting suggestions I found at: "10 Things You Can Do When Windows XP Won't Boot Up". I tried bootcfg /rebuild but was scared off of that when prompted to answer some questions after the initial command. I also tried fixmbr DeviceHardDisk0 but came to a point that I received a message saying that "an invalid or nonstandard partition table signature was detected. If you are not having problems accessing your drives, you should not continue. Writing a new master boot record to your system partition could damage your partition tables and cause your partitions to become inaccessible" which also scared me off so I didn't continue.........
I have a batch file that runs a certain program many times, and I want to know if there's a command out there that can time just how long it takes to run the program each time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Taskbar and Icons take a long time to appear on the desktop. This started a couple of days ago, but I have since restored the system back to well before this problem started with no luck. I have run AVG and Stinger anti virus scans, as well as MS anti-spyware, Spybot, Adaware, Bazooka, SpywareBlaster, and RegScrubXP, but no help. When my desktop appears, I notice under Processes in Task Manager, that only about half of the 40 or so processes have started. Then after a minute or longer the rest of the processes load. This may be normal, I don't know. Could the processes loading sequence have changed, causing the Taskbar and Icons to load at a later time? Also listed among the processes is Isass.exe which has a scary ring to it. I'll have to Google that one.

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
Currently using XP Pro, SP2 with P4 3.2, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD (90% free). While using explorer to open a folder and display the files in it, the illustrator (ai) files (hundreds of it in one folder) were shown with the generic/windows system icons first and gradually been transform to the Illustrator files icon. The process took so long and made a system in hold/freeze. It happens as well when tried open files using File Open in Adobe Illustrator or Design in the very same folder and files. I've tried solve it using Display Appearance Effect as well as using regedit to modify the value on Max Cached Icons in registry but didn't work.

First, booting up takes a long...time. When I finally log in, I get an error message: HP AiO Device Object failed: hRes = 0x800706BAThe RPC Server is unavailable.Maximum retry attempts exceeded.I click ok and it brings up my desktop, but originally would not bring up my Start button and taskbar. After messing with it all day yesterday, I finally got a taskbar, but not my usual one. I can open some programs, but can't save any files to floppy or CD. Everything is very slow...and I do mean very! Most of the time the Task Manager will show "Not Responding", sometimes it will eventually start running again and sometimes I just have to "End Process".
I just upgraded my computers ram from 256 to 512 mb. the technician added a lot of programs such as virus protection and other hardware. It still takes 5 minutes to get on line. I have a motorola sb4100 modem. What gives?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer takes a long time when I try to delete a file (doesn't matter what size or kind of file). Once I click on the file and hit delete the hard drive starts going and after a while I get a confirmation message "Are you sure you want to send file.ext to the recycle bin?" I click yes and then it's hung up again for a while as I watch pieces of paper float accross the screen from a file folder to a recycle bin, and then it finally deletes. This is a new problem on my old machine.I also can't open the recylcing bin, but I can empty it. When I click on the recycle bin it opens a window and shows the "flashlight" icon, the hard drive goes, and it never finished it's process, never displays the recycling bin contents.

It takes a very long time after I type my password in the logon screen to get into the system - it sits for several minutes and then eventually moves again and opens up the desktop. In addition,I run McAfee on my system and it flashes up a message saying that it blocked a potentially unwanted program GenericPUP.H, but cannot seem to remove it. Also, there is a folder under c:Documents and Settings Programs called vmntoolbar. I found out that this could cause problems also, but I cannot seem to be able to delete it.

It takes a very long time to even load the interface fully. Most of the programs in Startup (MSConfig)also do not load. I have recently installed Norton 2005. I have scanned the system for Trojans, viruses, SpywareAdware etc. But nothing shows up. Is it because of NAV?? MSConfig/Startup also does not have any unknown entries.
