View 2 Replies View RelatedI believe I have a virus but I can't seem to find information about it. I am unable to clear it up when I run virus checks either.What's happening is this. When ever I open a web page (aol is my home page with ie as my brower) the page takes forever to load and then just after it does load I get a message saying "We're sorry, the content you requested is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." My computer is also EXTREMELY slow to load pages - pages that use to load within 5 seconds (like when checking email) can take 5 minutes to open, if it opens at all.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI tend to have problems with Firefox taking an unusually long time to load pages, and normally, I can solve that with using a System Restore. This time, though, I can't get System Restore to work. I've tried several times from various checkpoints, but each time I get a message saying "Incomplete Restoration." I know this topic has been posted before, and I tried using the advice given in this thread I disabled AVG Anti-Virus, but I didn't help. I know from the previous thread that you'll need to look at the system restore logs in order to help; so, I'll just post those now to save time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Windows start-up is pretty decent (after I log-in to my user account). What's taking too long is the "Windows Is Starting Up" screen:It takes about 5 mins. or so before the log-in screen shows up. Anyway, here's what happened prior to this event:
My Windows XP OS has just been repaired due to a stop error. One of my RAM cards (I have two installed previously) has also been removed because the technician deemed that it was the cause of the stop error.Now my question is, is it the cause of the slow down? I mean having a smaller RAM? I'm thinking that it could be the cause but I'm having second thoughts because I only had 1 RAM card installed way back but the stalling of the "Windows is starting up" screen never happened. I've had a slow running PC, yes, but I never had to wait that long for the "log-in" screen to show up (10 seconds tops). I only have 6.46 GB free space now which is small
after I enter my password to start windows, it takes a real long time for it to load up. What may be the problem.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI been running this computer every little thing I load or do takes 3-5 mintues to load, Whether it's winamp or Yahoo Instant Messenger It takes a really long time to load any app of any sort. There has been no changes made to my machine and I scanned for viruses on this machine and nothing is found. Could I get some help in why this is computer is a lag-a-holic? It's been a good machine until it's started to lag.

I have clean up the temp files, cache and have check for adware/spyware. I am directly connect to the cable modem so there is no interference with a router. My cable provider says there is no "packet loss" when they ping by IP. They suggest that it is something to do with my PC any suggestions?

View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery thing runs pretty slow, Firefox takes 5+ seconds to switch tabs, Thunderbird takes almost that long to open messages, Gaim's buddy list scrolling is extremely slow, Paint Shop Pro/Gimp/Photoshop filters take almost double the time they do on my other weaker IBM (see computer specs). It's just terribly slow.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running xp home edition sp2, here are some details about my motherboard and memory nd stuff off cpu/z Right now that out of the way the probelm is it takes about 20 seconds to logon to my user account and takes 10 seconds for the tasbar to load! i have canceled down some unused services, cleared my startup programs, run adaware and cleanup stuff etc nd nothing has worked!
View 3 Replies View Relatedi just bought this new computer for 1 of the staff and i have configured his profile. but then i tried to browse the internet and found it very slow, not in opening the IE, but in loading the pages. it takes around 20 to 30 seconds to load a page. when i use ping to check the connectivity, it takes a long time to display the first line, but it gives me a 1ms when pinging the server, which is good.
now i login with the administrator account and find the internet browsing is fast, but again the ping takes a while to display the first line. i did give that user Administrator permissions and tried again, but it's the same issue. i thought it would be higher permissions which could affect the user. So, i added the user to "domain admins", "administrators" groups, and i tried again, but the same situation
My computer is very very slow, I don'i think is the dsl but the os because it take long time to load a page for example when Ill click on firefox it take 20 to 30 second to load the page than when the page is loaded and i switche web page it load very quickly, same think when i'm tryng to upload the outlook express more than 40 second to upload the program, and when performing multitask everything it slow doan even more, even opening tha my computer file it take 5/10 second.

So whenever i start up the computer once it hits the Blue Welcome Xp screen it will stay there for atleast 30sec, i mean my mouse shows and i can move it but im just waitin there until it fully loads. View 6 Replies View Relatedwhen I browse "My Network Places", the browsing is so incredibly slow. It takes a long while when you click one icon in the “My Network Places” for that to open up and go to the next directory or when just first displaying the computers in “My Network Places”, it goes so slow.
I use Windows Workgroup on the LAN to share out internet. Everything else, other than browsing the network, works great. The internet browses nice and fast.
This morning I opened My Network Places while my pc was still loading all the programs at start-up and "My Network Places" was fast. After a few minutes it was back to normal low pace. Now I guess it is something running on my pc slowing it down. Is it maybe to do with XP Service Pack 2? Before installing SP2 the network browsing on my pc is fast, after installing SP2, it is slow. Other computers on the network without SP2 browse the network quite fast.
All the pc's on the network has XP Pro.
My computer is taking a long time to open web pages..."the phishing filter is checking this site" seems like a really long time. Is there something to make this a quicker process? Is it safe to just turn it off? Even when i tried to open this site it took like a minute!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've created a new user account for my other half and it all works fine EXCEPT for the fact that any URL which doesn't end in '.htm' or '.html' won't load in IE6. also have the google toolbar and none of the buttons seem to do anything (but I think this is related to my first problem). On my own account, everything works perfectly. I've tried as much as I can without ANY success (checking for viruses,
spyware, many settings etc.).
Last week i turned my computer on and windows xp took so much longer to boot up. when the windows xp loading screen (with the blue progress bar) appears, its there for a few minutes, it used to be a few seconds. I scanned for viruses with Norton, scanned for spyware etc with Ad-Aware and Microsoft's Anti spyware, everything is all clean. All programs are up to date in definitions too. I cleaned my registry(registry mechanic), defragged my drives, done disc cleans, i have 2 programs in my start-up (norton and mcafee firewall) and still no joy. I have also used winxp manager and tried optimizing and xp still takes a long time to load.

I've not added any soft or hardware before this started.Specifically, the Welcome screen stays up for 30 seconds. Then I get a blank desktop and 30 seconds more elapse before the icons appear. Finally, it takes 1:40 before all tray icons are in place so my total boot time is over 2 1/2 minutes.I've reviewed all Start up items in MSConfig and in my Start up folder, and have run a non-destructive restore. I've used Registry First Aid to check on registry content, and, of course, a virus scan (NAV), and have also defragged.

Can the answer be found in the hijackthis log that is just below? Can you please tell me if according to the log there is any other problem?
I thought I took really good care of my computer. Bought it this year February (fujitsu lifebook n6010). Run adaware, spybot search & destroy, crapcleaner, registry mechanic, registry fix, diskclean up (only compress old files), and defrag about every 2 weeks
