Win XP HE SP2. Dell 8300 3.0 Ghz .PC takes minutes from startup to desktop. All programs much slower than usual.I regularly use Defrag, Have Microsoft anti spyware, Panda anti virus, Ad Aware Spybot, System Mechanic Pro.etc.Have tried everything!

View 2 Replies View RelatedOur family computer is running like a slug. It takes forever to startup and open programs and the hard drive activity light is always on. It also uses up a lot of RAM for some reason but the CPU usage is normal. I have another hard drive that is in a removable tray that I use, and that has all the same settings and everything, but that one is using a fraction of the RAM and runs pretty good!

For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank

Statup takes a long time and while it is loading things the firewall disables until after everything in startup loads. Lately I have had problems when docking my iPod. It just undocks on it's own and nothing is touching it or the cable connecting it to the computer. I ran Hijack this but no sure how to interpret it. I am running Windows 2k pro on a Compaq Presario.

All drives are defragged weekly, the BIOS is set to boot off of the hard disk, and I only have the one OS installed.This thing use to boot to the desktop in 20 seconds.
View 12 Replies View Relatedmy computer recently seems to be running slow, i have done all what i know but no improvements, its a few years old now (2003) and never gone wrong (touch wood!).its especially slow when using iTunes, the start of each track skips which is getting annoying!i recently upgraded the RAM and installed a 2nd 300Gb internal hard drive for some extra memory to store music etc (i kept the old one in as the primary drive, its less than a quarter full now).i am running XP sp2, P4 2.4GHz, with 1.5Gb of RAM, my graphics card is a 128mb GeForce4 FX5200.Done scans using Ad-Aware, Registry Mechanic, CCleaner, Avast Anti-virus, and nothing found.checked what loads at startup and removed a couple of things such as iTuneshelper etc but there doesnt seem to be a lot there.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running an 2.2gh Athlon 64 with Media Center 2005 and a gig of Ram and an integrated 200x Raedon mobo. The system idle process is at 99-80 percent most of the time. However, at the bottom it says I'm running around 75-100% and when I go to the graph it shows really high as well. I just reformatted my enitre drive via recovery disc to try to fix this. (Also and i didnt want to try to uninstall the beta 2 of vista so it wasnt for the sole purpose of fixing the percent thing) I dont have a duel boot anymore and it has ran this way since the start AND since the reformat. Too bad i didnt notice this when i bought it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI ran Ad Aware SE and later Spyawre Doctor and found nothing also clen temp. files on IE/Tools/temp folders then I ran %temp% and deleted all temp files but it gave me an Error File or Folder mon000 that says close any programs that might be using the file and try again. I don' know what file that is. there are two files that were not deleted: mon000.log and one named Dat.File pefib Perfdata Also ran ATF-cleaner
