Why is it taking my computer 3 minutes to boot to the desktop? As you can see from my signature below, I don't have exactly a slow poke machine. All drives are defragged weekly, the BIOS is set to boot off of the hard disk, and I only have the one OS installed.This thing use to boot to the desktop in 20 seconds.
View 12 RepliesI have a main WIN XP Home Edition based computer with an Intel 3118 chip, 2GB RAM,190GB Hard drive with 126GB free, additional drive via USB with 470 GB and 399GB free and networked with a laptop and Dell computer all able to read each other. On the main computer I have 60+ icons on the desktop and have Zone Alarm Security Suite and Forcefield running updated.I have cleaned all computers with Crap Cleaner and Esaycleaner have defragged and deleted all unwanted files but still it takes some 9-10 minutes to boot from hot or cold and the close down of programs also takes between 1-2 minutes.

I noticed in Task Manager that there were processes that ended in ' .t ' Running a search on my computer showed that there are over 100,000 .t files now on my computer. I've run Spy Sweeper, which blocks some of these from starting up, but won't get rid of them. Same with Spyware bot. What are these files? and how do I get rid of them?
View 3 Replies View RelatedLately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank

Even so, the laptop has slowed considerably and is often hesitant.

It takes 5 to 6 minutes to boot and then takes on some dialog boxes when clicking 7 seconds to activate, (Show on Screen) and on others, takes 14 to 21 seconds to activate? Sometime you even see the searching flashlite on the screen when you click. The same thing happens with the right click context menu. This computer is a HP a430n running a AMD Athlon(B) XP 3200+ running at 2.20 GHz. It has 1Gig of ram, a GeForce4 MX440 (Raven) AGP 8x graphic card,Integrated AC97 audio and a Maxtor 250Gig hard drive.

View 9 Replies View Relatedpc was very stable until I introduced new replacement tv card After a system freeze caused by a new pinnacle tv tuner I had to do a hard reset ( press power button for 4 secs ) When the system rebooted it stuck on the post screen, it auto detects my hardware and then stops.After about half an hour it moves on to the next bios screen (which would normally only show up for a second or two during boot up) and then stayed on that screen for 16 - 24 hours.I gave up, left it running & went to sleep (still displaying the same screen in the morning) & then work the next day. I came home from work to find the windows welcome screen on my monitor!!?? But on rebooting it takes nearly 24 hours to start up

It is completely clean of virii/malware/spyware I just installed SP2 on it, and since then it has been exceptionally slow to boot.Following the initial boot screen, the screen goes blank for over 2 minutes It then gets to the black screen with the grey progress bar along the bottom. It takes at least 5 minutes to get through this progress bar.

A few days ago I had the motherboard replaced as it was bad. It was done at a service place in Tijuana. They had to reformat the hard disk and reinstall my versions of XP and my upgrade to XP Pro. Then I have been updating via the internet to the Windows updates including Service Pac 3.

In the processes it shows the spooler.exe using the power alternating with the System(at bottom of list) - but mostly the spooler.exe. View 11 Replies View RelatedI ran Ad Aware SE and later Spyawre Doctor and found nothing also clen temp. files on IE/Tools/temp folders then I ran %temp% and deleted all temp files but it gave me an Error File or Folder mon000 that says close any programs that might be using the file and try again. I don' know what file that is. there are two files that were not deleted: mon000.log and one named Dat.File pefib Perfdata Also ran ATF-cleaner

But now it boots soooooooooooooo slow about 1-2 mins but once up it is fine. It shuts down fina as well. Done all scans virus adaware etc so the machine is now clean. So how do I speed up the boot.
