Someone told me that my computer is running slow because I have too many programs running in the background. Could this be true and if so, how do I delete the unnecessary programs and more to the point, how do I recognize which programs are necessary and which are not?

SP2 on my wireless hp pavillion Zx5000 laptop.It is running somewhat slower than it was a few weeks ago.It acts as if something is running in the background.I have defraged,scan disc,virus scan.Should i check resource's and start up programs running and if so how?

It also uses up a lot of RAM for some reason but the CPU usage is normal. I have another hard drive that is in a removable tray that I use, and that has all the same settings and everything, but that one is using a fraction of the RAM and runs pretty good!

Pages take too long to load, and I now sometimes get the server error message here, server not responding. Any idea what I can do. View 1 Replies View RelatedI ran Ad Aware SE and later Spyawre Doctor and found nothing also clen temp. files on IE/Tools/temp folders then I ran %temp% and deleted all temp files but it gave me an Error File or Folder mon000 that says close any programs that might be using the file and try again. I don' know what file that is. there are two files that were not deleted: mon000.log and one named Dat.File pefib Perfdata Also ran ATF-cleaner
View 14 Replies View Relatedmy computer recently seems to be running slow, i have done all what i know but no improvements, its a few years old now (2003) and never gone wrong (touch wood!).its especially slow when using iTunes, the start of each track skips which is getting annoying!i recently upgraded the RAM and installed a 2nd 300Gb internal hard drive for some extra memory to store music etc (i kept the old one in as the primary drive, its less than a quarter full now).i am running XP sp2, P4 2.4GHz, with 1.5Gb of RAM, my graphics card is a 128mb GeForce4 FX5200.Done scans using Ad-Aware, Registry Mechanic, CCleaner, Avast Anti-virus, and nothing found.checked what loads at startup and removed a couple of things such as iTuneshelper etc but there doesnt seem to be a lot there.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have some sort of program running on the background of my computer that seems to be disturbing any kind of task I try to accomplish on my cpu. It seems to be running every 30 seconds or so for a brief moment and then repeats over and over again. Whenever I try to type, this program or virus clicks off the current window, in which I have to reposition my cursor again back to where it was originally. Even as I type now, I am having to click back onto this editor every 6 or 7 words. I have checked my task manager and cannot find any processes that are running since the only happens and causes a disruption for a brief second. This is very odd and seems to make any task that much more aggravating.

For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. When I log on and all I want to do is load my desk top and click on AOL, I have all these programs I need to click thru til I can actually get to the process of getting on the internet. All drives are defragged weekly, the BIOS is set to boot off of the hard disk, and I only have the one OS installed.This thing use to boot to the desktop in 20 seconds.
