I have run several applications to clean my computer but I am sure there is something on there slowing the performance.
I would place my HT log on here but I do not know how do it.
Someone told me that my computer is running slow because I have too many programs running in the background. Could this be true and if so, how do I delete the unnecessary programs and more to the point, how do I recognize which programs are necessary and which are not?

It also uses up a lot of RAM for some reason but the CPU usage is normal. I have another hard drive that is in a removable tray that I use, and that has all the same settings and everything, but that one is using a fraction of the RAM and runs pretty good!
View 9 Replies View Relatedmy computer recently seems to be running slow, i have done all what i know but no improvements, its a few years old now (2003) and never gone wrong (touch wood!).its especially slow when using iTunes, the start of each track skips which is getting annoying!i recently upgraded the RAM and installed a 2nd 300Gb internal hard drive for some extra memory to store music etc (i kept the old one in as the primary drive, its less than a quarter full now).i am running XP sp2, P4 2.4GHz, with 1.5Gb of RAM, my graphics card is a 128mb GeForce4 FX5200.Done scans using Ad-Aware, Registry Mechanic, CCleaner, Avast Anti-virus, and nothing found.checked what loads at startup and removed a couple of things such as iTuneshelper etc but there doesnt seem to be a lot there.

For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. Pages take too long to load, and I now sometimes get the server error message here, server not responding. Any idea what I can do. Most everything I do is done inside of VMs.Earlier today I was watching a video (on the host OS, not in a VM) while running Pidgin and Firefox on Linux in a VM (Using Sun's VirtualBox). I had been having some issues with the VM crashing (what I believed to be related to the minimal amount of ram that I had allocated for it), and it did crash while I was watching this video.Everything began to stutter, and the computer froze. After rebooting, it is taking upwards of 10 minutes for the Windows boot screen (with blue load bar) to finish, another few minutes for the the CRTL-ALT-DEL to show up, and then a minute or two for me to log in.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI ran Ad Aware SE and later Spyawre Doctor and found nothing also clen temp. files on IE/Tools/temp folders then I ran %temp% and deleted all temp files but it gave me an Error File or Folder mon000 that says close any programs that might be using the file and try again. I don' know what file that is. there are two files that were not deleted: mon000.log and one named Dat.File pefib Perfdata Also ran ATF-cleaner

All drives are defragged weekly, the BIOS is set to boot off of the hard disk, and I only have the one OS installed.This thing use to boot to the desktop in 20 seconds.
