System Idle Process / Computer Running Slow?
Jul 10, 2005well i've been having problems with the computer running slow, and ive noticed that the system idle process in task manager always says 99 under the cpu tab, is this normal?

Slow Laptop / System Idle Process 95%
Jan 9, 2006I Have A Relatively New Gateway Laptop That Works Extremely Slow On Or Off The Internet.most Of The Time My Hard Drive Light Is On Solid. I Checked Processes Through Task Manager And It Says Cpu Useage Is Between 80 And 95% In The System Idle Process. Is That My Problem And How Do I Solve It? You Guys Helped Me With My Desktop And I Really Appreciated That. I Am Going To Make A Donation While I Wait For A Response.

Feb 19, 2007I ALT+CTRL+DEL to bring up my processes and i noticed at the bottom of that window that SYSTEM IDLE PROCESS is taking up 80-99% so i watch it for awhile and it doesnt go down at all, the lowest i seen it was 77%.Now i have about 30-40 things running in the Background not a problem for my computer. I have 2 Gigs of RAM should be more then enough. but this process is really slowing me down.

Jan 23, 2009Why is it taking my computer 3 minutes to boot to the desktop? As you can see from my signature below, I don't have exactly a slow poke machine. All drives are defragged weekly, the BIOS is set to boot off of the hard disk, and I only have the one OS installed.This thing use to boot to the desktop in 20 seconds.

I noticed in Task Manager that there were processes that ended in ' .t ' Running a search on my computer showed that there are over 100,000 .t files now on my computer. Aug 1, 2009I have a main WIN XP Home Edition based computer with an Intel 3118 chip, 2GB RAM,190GB Hard drive with 126GB free, additional drive via USB with 470 GB and 399GB free and networked with a laptop and Dell computer all able to read each other. On the main computer I have 60+ icons on the desktop and have Zone Alarm Security Suite and Forcefield running updated.I have cleaned all computers with Crap Cleaner and Esaycleaner have defragged and deleted all unwanted files but still it takes some 9-10 minutes to boot from hot or cold and the close down of programs also takes between 1-2 minutes.

Jul 27, 2010iv'e been searching around for 30 minutes of what the problem could be but i have not found anything. iv'e been looking through msconfig startups and there is nothing wierd there, iv'e also been looking up my programs through ad or remove program if there is some random programs that is installed on my computer and i didn't find anything. When i open my task manager it is System Idle Process that is jumping around between 48-61 cpu usage, i don't know what SIP is for or what it do, so it would be nice if someone could tell me little about SIP and give me some tips over how to solve this problem with the cpu usage. I also found out that rundll32.exe is using about the same cpu usage as SIP 50-55 what is rundll32.exe?

May 8, 2007After my computer finishes the boot process, I start Windows task manager and click on the processes tab. I scroll the listing and at the end I find "System Idle Process is cycling CPU usage at 25,44, and 98 percent within an approximate four second sequence. I do this because I normaly boot and try to run Outlook Express to no avail and I am trying to find out the problem. When I try to open Outlook Express I always get the following dialog. "Outlook Express could not be started because another instance of it is still running on your computer. Please log off of windows and then restart Outlook Express. If the problem persists, save your work and then restart your computer." I go to start and click on Log Off. I wait two minutes and try to start Outlook Express. I get the message the application failed to initialize as the workstation is shutting down! I try to restart the computer but it won't restart or even shut down. Any application I then try to start results in the message "the application failed to initialize as the workstation is shutting down!" I have to Power off the computer.

Jun 21, 2006After a recent win xp pro sp2 install, a system idle process always remains on. It doesn't take more than 16kb usually, so is not a big problem but it does manage to keep my PC's busy light flickering constantly! It is really annoying, but it did not come with the install either, it started a little after it. In my opinion, it was not triggered by any kind of a software or program, but is another one of those "unfortunate mistakes" that windows keeps us entertained with. I probably could fix it with a windows wash, but I was wondering if anyone has any other ideas. My CPU is 700 mhz, celeron B (or the old one, from 97). I have enough disk space, ~ 100gigs, so I am sure it has nothing to do with the page file either.

Nov 18, 2007I am using Windows XP Home, on an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1GB RAM. When I have been using the internet (Internet Explorer version 7) I occassionally experience a slowdown of everything internet related. I check the Tas Manager and it shows my System Idle Process using 99% of CPU. I find this odd, as my system is clearly not idle cause I am using it! My computer is on a network, and I havent heard it happening to other computers on the network until today, when the same thing occurred on another machine in the network. any ideas on what it is?

Jun 7, 2010it takes forever to do anything. It's like it can only do one thing at a time its so slow. When I turn it on and log into my profile, it takes about 5 mins for it to load the desktop and about another 5 mins to load the antivirus software (Norton Security Suite 2010). The same goes for everything I do on this computer, it takes a while for the internet browser (IE 8 and FireFox), opening any program on this computer takes a while to load up. I have run Norton and it doesn't come up with anything. I have done a system restore a couple of times but it doesn't seem to help any

Oct 17, 2008Lately my computer has been having many issues regarding its performance. It's an old computer, about 4 yrs old. HP Pavillion, Windows XP. It runs at around 100% when I have about 3 or 4 programs open, when I restart I almost always receive a message about hardware monitor finding an error. At one time I was wondering if my mouse or keyboard could be the culprit. Sometimes when I am opening tabs in new windows on firefox, and right click with my mouse.it opens the site in a new window or it shows me the element properties, tries to save the page, bookmark it, etc. I have scanned for viruses and have come up with nothing. I am afraid to turn my computer off because I don't know if it will come back. I've done about three whole system restores on it (all of which have had issues that have resolved if the restore has been started and then let to rest for a few days.)
Another issue last night, was that Firefox would not respond when I entered a website. It would say that it was finding the site, but then it would say "done" very quickly. I put the computer in hibernate (and the part that says "windows is preparing to hibernate" looked drastically different.) This morning I wanted to find out the problem with firefox. i got a message about how firefox had crashed and needed to be restarted. I clicked on "restart firefox" and my computer had a bluescreen error and crashed. This is the message I recieved from windows about that: Blue screen error caused by a device or driver. You received this message because a hardware device, its driver, or related software has caused a blue screen error. This type of error means the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from potential data corruption or loss. In this case, we were unable to detect the specific device or driver that caused the problem.
Computer Running Very Slow: System Freezing Randomly?
Feb 8, 2009About a week back I seem to have gotten a virus that tried to act like a windows firewall popup in an attempt to get me to download bogus software that would do bad things to my computer, well I didn't fall for it, but AVG didn't pikc the virus up right away. But after a day or two it did, and stoped it, but it also found a few other viruses hiding out in windows restore files. I'm actually not sure if this is related to my main problem, but it happened around the same time so I'm reporting it. Ok shortly after I got rid of those viruses my computer started freezing. But I'm not talking about a total lock up. Its kinda like a slow freeze.

Even the startup sound is very drawn out and is characterized by a long, skipping echo. Music skips randomly and even alert noises, (such as the one heard when ending a process) has the same skipping/echo. This happens even when there are few apparent processes running and very little CPU usage (such as 5%), as well as when the system is overloaded (which happens remarkably quickly for the 20-30 processes running).

FRESH clean install. running SP3. xp pro.then installed graphic and mother board drivers.before connecting to the internet or any LAN or installing anyother application. i installed NOD 32 and Spy bot, did both scans. then connected to the internet and did updates for nod and spybot. and scanned again. CPU usage after this was 1%.later during the day. my CPU suddenly was 50 % and idle was 99%that to me is wrong. and if its just a bug. its one that is killing my pc.this is a constant rate of 60% odd (running so far for 3 hours... no change)
i am not sure but could it be the SATA?
System Process Running Constantly
Dec 4, 2004In my list of processes under task manager, the process "System" runs every about every five seconds for a split-second, taking up about 20% of my CPU. This doesn't matter too much when running lower-end applications that require little activity, but when I run games that need much more of the CPU to run, I get skips every 5 seconds because "System" will run no matter what every 5 seconds.
