I Have A Relatively New Gateway Laptop That Works Extremely Slow On Or Off The Internet.most Of The Time My Hard Drive Light Is On Solid. I Checked Processes Through Task Manager And It Says Cpu Useage Is Between 80 And 95% In The System Idle Process. Is That My Problem And How Do I Solve It? You Guys Helped Me With My Desktop And I Really Appreciated That. I Am Going To Make A Donation While I Wait For A Response.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI ALT+CTRL+DEL to bring up my processes and i noticed at the bottom of that window that SYSTEM IDLE PROCESS is taking up 80-99% so i watch it for awhile and it doesnt go down at all, the lowest i seen it was 77%.Now i have about 30-40 things running in the Background not a problem for my computer. I have 2 Gigs of RAM should be more then enough. but this process is really slowing me down.

View 2 Replies View Relatediv'e been searching around for 30 minutes of what the problem could be but i have not found anything. iv'e been looking through msconfig startups and there is nothing wierd there, iv'e also been looking up my programs through ad or remove program if there is some random programs that is installed on my computer and i didn't find anything. When i open my task manager it is System Idle Process that is jumping around between 48-61 cpu usage, i don't know what SIP is for or what it do, so it would be nice if someone could tell me little about SIP and give me some tips over how to solve this problem with the cpu usage. I also found out that rundll32.exe is using about the same cpu usage as SIP 50-55 what is rundll32.exe?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter my computer finishes the boot process, I start Windows task manager and click on the processes tab. I scroll the listing and at the end I find "System Idle Process is cycling CPU usage at 25,44, and 98 percent within an approximate four second sequence. I do this because I normaly boot and try to run Outlook Express to no avail and I am trying to find out the problem. When I try to open Outlook Express I always get the following dialog. "Outlook Express could not be started because another instance of it is still running on your computer. Please log off of windows and then restart Outlook Express. If the problem persists, save your work and then restart your computer." I go to start and click on Log Off. I wait two minutes and try to start Outlook Express. I get the message the application failed to initialize as the workstation is shutting down! I try to restart the computer but it won't restart or even shut down. Any application I then try to start results in the message "the application failed to initialize as the workstation is shutting down!" I have to Power off the computer.

View 12 Replies View RelatedAfter a recent win xp pro sp2 install, a system idle process always remains on. It doesn't take more than 16kb usually, so is not a big problem but it does manage to keep my PC's busy light flickering constantly! It is really annoying, but it did not come with the install either, it started a little after it. In my opinion, it was not triggered by any kind of a software or program, but is another one of those "unfortunate mistakes" that windows keeps us entertained with. I probably could fix it with a windows wash, but I was wondering if anyone has any other ideas. My CPU is 700 mhz, celeron B (or the old one, from 97). I have enough disk space, ~ 100gigs, so I am sure it has nothing to do with the page file either.

When I have been using the internet (Internet Explorer version 7) I occassionally experience a slowdown of everything internet related. I check the Tas Manager and it shows my System Idle Process using 99% of CPU. I find this odd, as my system is clearly not idle cause I am using it! My computer is on a network, and I havent heard it happening to other computers on the network until today, when the same thing occurred on another machine in the network. any ideas on what it is?

FRESH clean install. running SP3. xp pro.then installed graphic and mother board drivers.before connecting to the internet or any LAN or installing anyother application. i installed NOD 32 and Spy bot, did both scans. then connected to the internet and did updates for nod and spybot. and scanned again. CPU usage after this was 1%.later during the day. my CPU suddenly was 50 % and idle was 99%that to me is wrong. and if its just a bug. its one that is killing my pc.this is a constant rate of 60% odd (running so far for 3 hours... no change)
i am not sure but could it be the SATA?
In the Task Manager it goes between about 85 to 99%. And no, I'm not looking at the System Idle Process as so many newbies do. A few days ago I had the motherboard replaced as it was bad. It was done at a service place in Tijuana. They had to reformat the hard disk and reinstall my versions of XP and my upgrade to XP Pro. Then I have been updating via the internet to the Windows updates including Service Pac 3.

View 11 Replies View Relatedthe laptop is very slow. how slow? it takes 14.5 min to boot up.it takes 4 min to get the outline of a window when i click on IE and 3 more min to get the home page up. ( Google.com) it is like this for any other app i try to open. ( the Start button takes about 35 sec to open) it is the same when connected to my lan or when it is a stand alone.So, i did a format and a re install, not once, but twice. i continue to run AVG scans, and spyware scans they always come out clean. And the laptop is still the same.
the laptop is: a P M 1.7 Gig with 256 meg of ram running windows 2000 pro. (format is NTFS) i have a P III 500 gig with the same ram that runs rings around this laptop.
did a mem test 86 and it passed all tests. ran Sea tools (all tests) passed.
Why is it taking my computer 3 minutes to boot to the desktop? As you can see from my signature below, I don't have exactly a slow poke machine. All drives are defragged weekly, the BIOS is set to boot off of the hard disk, and I only have the one OS installed.This thing use to boot to the desktop in 20 seconds.

But under the performance tab the physical memory shows out of total 1047788(1023mb) roughly only 573900(569mb) is available and the rest is in System Cache. Not to mention Page File usuage rests at about 370+mb on idle.As you can see I'm only working with 1g of Ram so this really affects my applications. Any one know where all this RAM and PF usage is going too?

It has gradually been getting slower since I started using it in January 2008, but last week it took a significant turn for the worse (about five minutes to load). Once it is up and running, it seems okay, although on occasions recently the mouse cursor has lagged behind its actual position. I am worried that malware may be the cause of the problem; particularly because of the sudden downwards jump in performance.
I have run the Windows Cleanup facility and the Defragmenter a couple of times. I have deleted files in various temp folders. I have McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.0i running, and I ran a full system scan, which returned nothing. I also ran scans with Spybot, Lavasofts Ad-Watch, Spyware Terminator, McAfee Stinger, and Trend Micro on-line scan. All returned nothing. I ran CCleaner, and it cleared out some junk. I have reviewed HijackThis output files (in ignorance). I manually turned off a few startup processes, and that seemed to improve matters a little. I still feel that I am failing to deal with the real issue though. I am edgy about turning off more processes, because I'm uncertain of what they do. I can refer to bleeping computer.com, and similar sites, but it is not always clear whether a process is honest, or it is a destructive process with an honest name.
Anyhow, on my second laptop, my roommate borrowed it and of course has no idea what she could've possibly ever done. She's probably a lil' too dense to realize if she download or got some kind of virus using it. And, of course, she didn't bother telling me right away so when I went to start up the laptop one day, it was going extremely slow.It took about 10 minutes for the laptop to boot to the windows login screen. Any mouse movement whether on the mousepad or when I hook up my USB mouse takes about 1 minute to register any movement. I haven't even been able to get to the main desktop screen. (I'm trying as I type.. but, judging by the length of how long it took the other stuff, I could be in for a long wait.) Even when I typed in the password it took about 5 minutes for it to seemingly type out.. but the "dots" cut off so I have no idea if it actually will go through or not or if I will get the "incorrect password" error message.

In the processes it shows the spooler.exe using the power alternating with the System(at bottom of list) - but mostly the spooler.exe. The problem really started when he changed an ink cartridge.Does any of this make sense?

The main reason it came to my attention was I've been downloading win updates from the catalog site to keep on my external drive for potential future use, and the download speed would randomly slow down.
I went into my Zone Alarm (free version 7.0.470.000) and looked at the programs currently granted permission to access the internet trusted zone. Among them was "Generic Host Process for win32 services". I changed the stauts to "Ask" and since then the intermittant activity has stopped, but I get the ZA popup asking for access by that svchost.exe executable
I've been battling it out with a filth ridden computer for days,appear to be almost on top of it. It is completely clean of virii/malware/spyware I just installed SP2 on it, and since then it has been exceptionally slow to boot.Following the initial boot screen, the screen goes blank for over 2 minutes It then gets to the black screen with the grey progress bar along the bottom. It takes at least 5 minutes to get through this progress bar.
