the laptop is very slow. how slow? it takes 14.5 min to boot up.it takes 4 min to get the outline of a window when i click on IE and 3 more min to get the home page up. ( Google.com) it is like this for any other app i try to open. ( the Start button takes about 35 sec to open) it is the same when connected to my lan or when it is a stand alone. So, i did a format and a re install, not once, but twice. i continue to run AVG scans, and spyware scans they always come out clean. And the laptop is still the same.
the laptop is: a P M 1.7 Gig with 256 meg of ram running windows 2000 pro. (format is NTFS) i have a P III 500 gig with the same ram that runs rings around this laptop.
did a mem test 86 and it passed all tests. ran Sea tools (all tests) passed.
I'm working on a Dell Poweredge server that has Windows Server 2000 .. It has become very slow so I added another gig of RAM to it which helped some.. I went to defrag and the Bar was solid red. Windows defrag won't touch it so I tried installing Diskeeper's new 2007 version only to find out it wasn't compatable with 2000 server. Anyone know of a good program that will work on 2000 server? Thanks
I Have A Relatively New Gateway Laptop That Works Extremely Slow On Or Off The Internet.most Of The Time My Hard Drive Light Is On Solid. I Checked Processes Through Task Manager And It Says Cpu Useage Is Between 80 And 95% In The System Idle Process. Is That My Problem And How Do I Solve It? You Guys Helped Me With My Desktop And I Really Appreciated That. I Am Going To Make A Donation While I Wait For A Response.
I purhase this old Dell laptop from Ebay, and it has Win 2000 pro on it. It will boot to windows, however, I am try to install Win XP pro from cd rom drive. The laptop go to win, I am looking at cd rom and the light is blinking. I disable the hard dive and floopy, and the laptop said on boot device or operator system. I am in coms trying to bios, so I could boot from the cd rom. However, nothing is working, is their any way I could wipe this hard drive. I feel that their something that stoping the cd rom from boot the disk. Or someone made to boot from hard drive only.
I was given an old Laptop from a National Canadian Bank. Here are the following statistics, It currently has Windows 2000 Professional but since it was from a Bank it has quite a bit of Bank related Software and Network settings. I was looking to format the drive and install Windows XP. I was told in another post on the forum that perhaps my laptop might not be the optimal to my system. Which Operating system should I install on this system?
I have been thinking about upgrading my laptop computer to Windows 2000. Hopefully I don't have problems when it comes to finding the right drivers for my laptop computer, but the other thing that I am worried about is downloading the updates. My computer is only 300MHz with 96 MB of RAM in it, I only connect at 28.8 on the phone line and I haven't got a network to connect my laptop to high speed. Is there a way that I can download seperate updates for Windows 2000? Is there a way I can download Internet Explorer 6 and save it?
I am trying to upgrade my laptop to Windows 2000. Once the OS was loaded I have two PCI slots not not recognized. I tried to put a Netgear Card into the slot and it did not work so I went to Device Manager. It gave me a PCI ?. I dont know where to get a driver for the PCI slots because I dont know there names. What do I do?
windows 2000 pro, seems to run ok until you try to get on the internet. you can get around on it ok going to control panel you can download programs etc but the min you plug in a network cable you really even need to doubleclick on the internet if you wait a few seconds after you plug in the network cable right away a blue box pops up with this stop error Stop 0x0000001E (0xC0000005) and then three more sets of all zero's KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.
Toshiba Laptop My buddy just came over and has his Toshiba Laptop and it is having a blue screen stop error. Wanna see if we can get some help.He has windows 2000.you turn it on and it goes through every thing and then you put your password in and get to the desk top and all that is ok, when you click to get on the internet it would flash a blue screen and then shutdown. I went into system and advanced and unchecked auto reboot so now it doesn't shut down but you get the blue screen and you can't go anywhere when it comes up.
Anyhow, on my second laptop, my roommate borrowed it and of course has no idea what she could've possibly ever done. She's probably a lil' too dense to realize if she download or got some kind of virus using it. And, of course, she didn't bother telling me right away so when I went to start up the laptop one day, it was going extremely slow.It took about 10 minutes for the laptop to boot to the windows login screen. Any mouse movement whether on the mousepad or when I hook up my USB mouse takes about 1 minute to register any movement. I haven't even been able to get to the main desktop screen. (I'm trying as I type.. but, judging by the length of how long it took the other stuff, I could be in for a long wait.) Even when I typed in the password it took about 5 minutes for it to seemingly type out.. but the "dots" cut off so I have no idea if it actually will go through or not or if I will get the "incorrect password" error message.
The computer is slow to load windows 2000. Takes several mintues to connect to the net. Message showing that "Virtual Memory is low". Have gone into "My computer" - then "advanced options" and increased virtual memory to 1500. There is a good amount of space on the disc. But actions made no difference and still get the message that the virtual memory is low. Speed of computer not improved. Will try "System restore".
I have about had it with windows when even xp is acting buggy. jus jd to let that out. so it happens when the pc has been sitting for a while not doing anything. When I get home and startup outlook 2000 it takes about 20 seconds to even bring up outlook; this is the same scenario with opera, windows media player...ect My pc is a 2006 model dell xps 410 with a core 2 duo 2.66ghz, 2gb RAM, 250GB HDD (7200rpm). You would think that it would be a screamer with xp. I am careful to not let any "junk" build up on it. Right now the only programs running is AVG, Zone Alarm (firewall), and my sound card utility. and the same old story when I clicked on the start menue to open opera. the hard disk light is solid for like 20 sec until opera opens...i mean its just a web browser. I am begining to wonder if my HDD is messed up. It is freshly defragged. If i cant resolve this im gonna jus do a fresh reinstall of xp. i am currently only using 101gb of the 250gb HDD. For those curious it is a SAMSUNG SP2504C.
It is very slow to boot, taking perhaps two minutes to the desktop. It also runs very slow and choppy, it is not unusual for it to take 15 seconds just to populate the Control Panel window. This slow behavior continues throughout all applications. There seems to be more HD activity than I would expect O23 - Service: WLTRYSVC - Unknown owner - C:WINDOWSSystem32wltrysvc.exe
ever since I downloaded an episode of a TV show I missed last week (yes, bad idea..) my laptop has been acting up. It takes forever to open web pages if it will do so at all, and programs will give error messages and close. The messenger program will pop up showing others I am online although I have chosen all the options not to do that. I am sure it is a virus or some malware/spyware, but I run Norton (up to date) and Spyware Doctor (also up to date) and they can't find anything except a few adware cookies to delete. How do I find out what's causing this and get rid of it? It must have come in with the peer to peer program I would think?
Problem: A few weeks ago, the laptop became noticably slower to boot. I get an hourglass that lasts for maybe a minute. I can't do anything until it goes away.
Possible cause: Spyware? Hijack This log at the bottom of this post. Spybot tells me I have two "confirmed as malware" BHO's
Not to sure if I poseted in the right place or not. I'm currently working on a friends laptop and was hoping I could get some help here. She has a Gateway laptop running Windows XP. It is running very slowly. If you restart of shutdown there are always certain files that always pop up as not responding. These are the same files that show up in Task manager as not responding. Her Microsoft Antispyware icon when double clicked never starts the application. Here is a list of the files that always show up as not responding.
I just re-installed my OS on my laptop. Its a dell inspiron 9300. Its running windows xp, has 34 gig hard drive and half a gig of ram. Its almost 4 years old. Its really slow and sluggish even though I just re-installed. I have a backup hard drive too so I don't have to use all my space. Is it time for a new one? I don't want to put a lot of money into it if I should just upgrade to better machine. I use it as my main computer. I have a network in the house but that computer is VERY old and I just use it to connect the modem and router for our laptops. I have a second monitor attached to my laptop
bought a used laptop but it's running very slow and i wanted to do a complete restore on it but it wouldn't let me...PLEASE tell me what i can do to get it running better. I've included aLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 4:43:07 PM, on 12/24/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16574) Boot mode: Norm
I've got a nice laptop but was having major problems with it (running slow, etccc)........ so about two weeks ago I formated the machine.... it was working perfect only now the screen starts to freeze, the mouse freezes.
I sometimes have problems switching it on......... of course also the blue error screen appears now as well....... i just don't know what's happening...... when i enter secure website such as credit card merchants such as protyx the system freezes
I started getting ad popups and it started running very slowly. I didnt think anything of it at first but then it started freezing and having a hard time closing windows and it was BARLEY running. And the bar at the bottom would disappear. I had to restart the dern thing 5 times just bc even ctrl/alt/del didnt even work closing these windows. Then it happened. One day when I was trying to restart it, It was in the middle of booting, and when the 'Windows is starting' screen comes up, the blue one right before you would select a user and put in a password comes up, the laptop just CLICKS OFF then restarts the rebooting loop over and over again.
My laptop recently became extremely slow. The CPU usage is barely ever under 94-100% when any programs are running. I was wondering if you could help me find out what is wrong with it
Recently my laptop has been running very slowly and I've noticed that the cpu usage is usually at 100%, even when most of the more memory intensive programs such as firefox and azureus are closed. Is this a problem with most lenovo laptops? I have a thinkpad T43p.
I recently allowed someone use of my laptop to access their Yahoo email over a dial-up connection. When I next used the laptop myself, the desktop had re-arranged to the default top left screen configuration and the laptop was noticeably slower in operation. It now appears to operate at 100% CPU usage, whatever programme I attempt to run. I have run Spybot (nothing detected). According to the "user" they did nothing but read their email and did not download anything (that they were aware of).
why my laptop has been running SO slow for so long? On everything it does. I'm a junior/intermetiate computer user but need my computer for SO many things in my life and studies. It is an HP za4610 with a 1.83Gig AMD proccesor, 512meg RAM running XP Home.
I've been reading thru posts & seem to have some big time slow down issues. I'll post as much info as I can to get started please let me know what else may be needed to help clean this laptop up.
I have a problem in my office computer. It has two operating systems, namely, win98 and win2k in C: drive. The other partition is used for data storage and back up. Some days ago when I started that computer to work in win 2k it simply restarted again and again. So I am now unable to boot into 2000 and am forced to work in 98. Can someone tell me about the solution of the problem so that I can boot into 2000?
I need reinstall windows at the moment i have XP but i need to instal windows 2000 because it is the only cd i have cant find or borrow XP from any were and i need to take my laptop this afternoon.
I've been having a ton of trouble with a slow laptop that doesn't have any security on it and has old Office programs (ignorant purchasing choices that were totally my fault). Works on a wireless network. It has a lot of trouble shutting down. I get a CCapp error all the time.
