View 8 RepliesCould someone please take a look at my HJT log. My CPU went up to 100% about ten minutes ago and hasn't dropped since. I didn't see any odd processes and I just restarted and it just jumped right back up to 100.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop operating on Windows XP. Recently my computer has become extremely slow. I have gone into task manager and noticed that the CPU usage is quite high, even when there is very little running. At times the system idle will hover in the 90% range, however the CPU usage will also stay in the same range. (As far as I know, if idle is at 90%, than CPU usage should not be higher than 10%). I can't figure out what else is running that is making the CPU usage run so high. I have run various virus and spyware tests and all have come out clean. I have used cc cleaner to clean my registry and even update some of my out of date drivers but the problem has continued.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyhow, on my second laptop, my roommate borrowed it and of course has no idea what she could've possibly ever done. She's probably a lil' too dense to realize if she download or got some kind of virus using it. And, of course, she didn't bother telling me right away so when I went to start up the laptop one day, it was going extremely slow.It took about 10 minutes for the laptop to boot to the windows login screen. Any mouse movement whether on the mousepad or when I hook up my USB mouse takes about 1 minute to register any movement. I haven't even been able to get to the main desktop screen. (I'm trying as I type.. but, judging by the length of how long it took the other stuff, I could be in for a long wait.) Even when I typed in the password it took about 5 minutes for it to seemingly type out.. but the "dots" cut off so I have no idea if it actually will go through or not or if I will get the "incorrect password" error message.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently my laptop has been running very slowly and I've noticed that the cpu usage is usually at 100%, even when most of the more memory intensive programs such as firefox and azureus are closed. Is this a problem with most lenovo laptops? I have a thinkpad T43p.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI recently allowed someone use of my laptop to access their Yahoo email over a dial-up connection. When I next used the laptop myself, the desktop had re-arranged to the default top left screen configuration and the laptop was noticeably slower in operation. It now appears to operate at 100% CPU usage, whatever programme I attempt to run. I have run Spybot (nothing detected). According to the "user" they did nothing but read their email and did not download anything (that they were aware of).

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have been having this problem for a couple of days now. I was listening to music which had been skipping for a while but not to bad and suddenly everything froze. i killed winamp and hit pulled up the task mgr. cpu usage was staying around 100% different processes popping up to the top. i downloaded process explorer and it has a file highlighted in dark red wmiprvse.exe i read this could be a virus but i verifed it was in the correct folder. im running win xp media center edition with sp3. while looking at processes in the task mgr the system idle process is usually at the top of the list. my computer pretty much freezes up every few seconds now for a second or 2 and whenever i open any program it freezes up for a good minute or 2. Anything else ya'll might need to know feel free to ask. is there a way i could check if it is a hardware problem? this is a Hp pavillion laptop amd turion 1.99ghz 2gb ram. i have also tweaked xp to run faster by removing the themes among other things. I think thats the only thing saving me right now.

Extremely slow when installed XP. It also lists many boxes across the top in the blue part instead of listing the site, place and Windows Internet Explorer. It also lists boxes in the tabs at the bottom and before anything pops up after you click on a site in Explorer it says About Blank in the tabs. Is this because the RAM in his computer doesn't support this version of Windows?

When I use a program for the first time after a reboot it opens slowly but after that it flies.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an HP A1750Y Desktop. Specs are ASUS P5LP-LE MoBo, 2GB Ram, Pentium D 820 2.8 Ghz processor. I bought this computer with Windows Vista installed, and have been running it that way for the last few years. Boot-up has always been extremely slow, even from the day it was new, and it had gotten worse to the point that it would take about 15-20 minutes to boot. The Bios screen itself would be on for a long time, and then after the Vista Desktop would load, it would still be an additional 5 minutes until icons or the start bar would load.
To my surprise, the boot times were not improved at all! The computer itself works well and has good speed after finally booting up, but it takes about 15-20 minutes from power on, until you can use the OS. I did the install with a brand new HDD, so a HDD problem is not the culprit.
Computer booted into windows XP nice and fast as per usual, and i played some Battlefield 2142 after checking some messages/emails. Later i played some Crysis to find i had to mess around with updating punkbuster in order to get it to work. Failing that i looked around the internet with Firefox and then contacted punkbuster for help and went back to play BF2142 again. But! The map took absolutely ages just to get halfway. So i assumed Crysis had eaten up enough resources to make everything else sluggish. So i rebooted, only to discover i couldn't boot into XP! It just hung there with the little loading bar animation for what seemed like an indefinite period of time. I hit the reset button and try to boot in another three times without success. I try booting into my Vista install and have no trouble whatsoever. So i boot into safemode and find everything to be quite slow, but it's hard to gauge the speed of safe mode as most graphics drivers aren't loaded. So anyway i schedule a disk check for when i next boot in.
