Jan 5, 2007I'm working on a Dell Poweredge server that has Windows Server 2000 .. It has become very slow so I added another gig of RAM to it which helped some.. I went to defrag and the Bar was solid red. Windows defrag won't touch it so I tried installing Diskeeper's new 2007 version only to find out it wasn't compatable with 2000 server. Anyone know of a good program that will work on 2000 server? Thanks

I mark 'from device', click the '...' button & select 'File' in the dropdown, then brows to the file itself. Under 'select the backup sets to restore' I check the only checkbox there, then in the 'To Database' I select the name of the database in the file (a new DB name appears there as you select the file).
2000 Professional And 2000 Server
Aug 17, 2007Am I right in thinking that they are both pretty similar except that server has support for multiple processors and extra network related tools and facilities. The reason I ask is that if a piece of software works on Windows 2000 server, is it extremely likely that it will work on Windows 2000 professional too? As a bit of background information: I work for a small company which supplies temperature monitoring equipment which needs to be networked. I've been told that it has been tested on Windows 2000 server but not on Window 2000 professional.

May 29, 2008i am running server 2000 in my home as and server. i just recently put it in. sense i have put it in i have not been able to run my backups for all of my stuff. have a drive that i call apps on my server and it has all my setups and other stuff. when the backups start copying from that they lockup on files it seems some what random on the file although now that i am thinking more on it i seem to rember seeing the same files over and over. when it lock up it locks up the whole computer. and my backups are run by a batch script

Mar 7, 2006I have enabled ftp server on my windows 2000 server/ISA Server.Our internet connection is ADSL with US robotics router running. I configured the ISA Server to allow the ftp requests. I tested the connection using web browser as well as cute ftp and I have no problem in connecting by entering static IP Address from web browser and cute ftp.
The objective for ftp server is to share files with our clients. Now the problem is i can connect by entering my static ip address but not the internal domain name of my windows 2000 server which is tecnoserve.dxb. I dont want to give my clients our Static ip address to connect our ftp server.

I want to have a domain with 3 accounts: administrator (of course, me) and two other users. Feb 15, 2008I set-up a FTP site on Windows 2000 server so two remote users could access files on the Server. I have a static IP address for the site. These two people who need access previously had static IP Address to the server. They would type in a web site address which would then request an IP Address. They then logged on the site that way with a username and password. They let the hosting service expire for the web site and stopped paying for the static IP Address.Now my friends want to to have access to the Server again.I set up a FTP Site on the Windows 2000 Server. First time for me doing that. The Properties of the FTP site can be viewed by clicking on the attached web site.I can ping the Static IP Address successfully.

Sep 28, 2006I have an older server, manufacturer unknown, that was running Windows 2000 server with all the latest service packs. It was being used as a Citrix server in our environment. The server was put in before my time here and I saw that somebody had changed the C: to a M:We have since taken the server off the network and plan on using it as an internal file server. For some reason, I am unable to install a clean copy of Windows 2000 or 2000 advanced server on it.I have tried to wipe the disk clean with DBAN and KILLDISK and WIPEDRIVE but all just hang on the system.I have a Windows 98 startup disk that I was able to boot from and ran an FDISK.I was also able to format the C:.When I am in DOS and switch to the C: I type in Dir and it comes up with no files found.I checked the partitions in FDISK and it shows the Primary Partition as being active and shows the correct amount of disk space. Whenever I try to install Windows 2000 Advanced Server the system goes through the process of checking the files and gets to the point to begin installation. When I try to install the operating system, the next screen comes up saying it cannot find the hard drive.This is very frustrating as I know the C: is there as I can see it from DOS and it looks to be configured properly.

Unable To Sync To Time Server - RPC Server Is Unavailable
Aug 8, 2007XP Pro SP2, all latest updates. When I reboot, I can correctly sync to a time server, but after an unknown amount of time it goes back to saying "The RPC server is unavailable" instantly after clicking Update Now, regardless of what server I tell it to sync to. I also noticed that if I view my nForce Networking Controller status, then click Properties and go to the Authentication tab, everything is greyed out. If I hit OK without changing anything (I can't change it even if I wanted to), a message pops up saying "An unexpected condition occured. Not all of your requested changes in settings could be made" and just goes back to that window. I have to hit cancel to close it

Sep 22, 2006I have a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine. I can connect to remote shares by IP address, but not by name. If I do a Start, Run, \computer it says "The network path was not found."There is no server on this particaular network it's all peer-to-peer, and I've enabled NetBIOS for good luck. Nothing. I cannot ping the other machines by name, either. All other machines in the network run fine.I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling components of Network Connections, and TCP/IP is the only protocol installed. I have confirmed that all of the computers are in the same subnet and same work group.There is no firewall software installed on the machine, apart from XP SP2, and I've disabled that.

Oct 10, 2006Normally it connects to Orange BroadBand (ex Wanadoo, ex Freeserve) using its ADSL Speedtouch modem but while it's on my network I'm wanting it to use my network connection.However I try,any attempt to browse the iNet is met with it trying to connect via its dialup ADSL connection I've got connection settings to say don't bother).ipconfig /all reveals exactly what I'd expect for the LAN connection, DNS server is fine, etc. and I can ping an IP address but when I try to ping a hostname it says it doesn't know anything about that name, i.e. it's not managing to get the IP address from the DNS servers (I've also tried specifying other servers).

My company then decided that it wanted Small Business Server 2003 installing, so after using Compaq Smartstart to format and re arrange the disk arrays, which is no problem at all system formatted then a raid 5 disk array set-up which smart start detects and reads correctly However, now that is done the system will NOT install SBS 2003 or any other operating system at all, at the point of the install where the disk reads "Windows Set-up" the system just stops and freezes, this happens with other disks and different O/S discs.

Jun 18, 2008the laptop is very slow. how slow? it takes 14.5 min to boot up.it takes 4 min to get the outline of a window when i click on IE and 3 more min to get the home page up. ( Google.com) it is like this for any other app i try to open. ( the Start button takes about 35 sec to open) it is the same when connected to my lan or when it is a stand alone.So, i did a format and a re install, not once, but twice. i continue to run AVG scans, and spyware scans they always come out clean. And the laptop is still the same.
the laptop is: a P M 1.7 Gig with 256 meg of ram running windows 2000 pro. (format is NTFS) i have a P III 500 gig with the same ram that runs rings around this laptop.
did a mem test 86 and it passed all tests. ran Sea tools (all tests) passed.

May 11, 2006I have a problem in my office computer. It has two operating systems, namely, win98 and win2k in C: drive. The other partition is used for data storage and back up. Some days ago when I started that computer to work in win 2k it simply restarted again and again. So I am now unable to boot into 2000 and am forced to work in 98. Can someone tell me about the solution of the problem so that I can boot into 2000?
