System Wont Manage To Get IP Address From DNS Server?

Oct 10, 2006

Normally it connects to Orange BroadBand (ex Wanadoo, ex Freeserve) using its ADSL Speedtouch modem but while it's on my network I'm wanting it to use my network connection. However I try,any attempt to browse the iNet is met with it trying to connect via its dialup ADSL connection I've got connection settings to say don't bother).ipconfig /all reveals exactly what I'd expect for the LAN connection, DNS server is fine, etc. and I can ping an IP address but when I try to ping a hostname it says it doesn't know anything about that name, i.e. it's not managing to get the IP address from the DNS servers (I've also tried specifying other servers).

I use Network Places in xp prosp2 to manage files on my website via FTP. I can rename and delete files on the server and copy files from the HD onto the server. However I can not move or copy files from within the server. Nor can I save a file directly onto the server from within another application.

Dynamic IP Address For DNS Server?

Nov 6, 2005

I have a trial version 2003 server and have installed it at home. I use Active Directory. When making a DNS server, I pointed my workstation to the server for its DNS, this worked for about 10 minutes. As per Comcast rules about not being able to have a static IP address for the server. How to make a dynamic IP and when it changes just go in and change my workstations to the new DNS which would be the servers new IP?

Manage To Get Same Layout

Sep 4, 2005

I'm not sure where to ask this, but How do I manage to get the same layout as this forum? i.e. the post headers on the left side and the reply on the right. Is there a simple table format I can code into a template All forums should be laid out this way IMHO. The forum developers have all went for the wrong format, meaning we do double the clicking or unnecessary scrolling. This is the correct format (except they seem to load all replies in the thread when we unfold a thread, which means wasting time waiting for all the replies to load)

Ethernet Card Shows Broadcast Address As Physical Address

Aug 14, 2008

I am running xp pro. I can not get an internet connection through my ethernet card. When I hook up my modem through usb it works fine but unable to utilize my full download speed capabilities. Hooked the modem up via ethernet to laptop and it worked just fine. The only thing I can find wrong that I don't know how to fix or what is causing it is the fact that the physical address of the card comes up as the broadcast address (FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF). Very strange.

Dual Monitor / Computer Does Not Manage To Boot

Aug 25, 2005

I am trying to go from a single monitor to a dual monitor. My present graphic card is integrated on to my motherboard. I have another old graphic card a PCI S3 Virge. The problem with this graphic card is that its driver is not supported by Windows XP.If I disable my graphic card on my motherboard.I can manage to get
this PCI graphic card to work.If I hook up both the graphic cards i.e. both of them are enabled, the computer does not manage to boot (except in safe mode.) It should also be mentioned that when my PCI card is plugged in the computer at time of booting uses it and not the monitor plugged into the graphic card attached to the motherboard. Is there a way to change this.I tried messing with i.e. all possible combinations of values in the BIOS, but nothing seems to work. I would be grateful if someone had some idea on what to try.

Assigns APIPA Address Instead Of Getting DCHP Address

Oct 12, 2006

We have run across a problem here with APIPA addressing. After we install Windows updates, Windows assigns an APIPA address in the 169.254.x.x range, instead of getting an address from the DHCP server. The effect is that the computer loses connectivity with the network and the Internet. You can confirm this problem by running an IPCONFIG and checking for an address in the 169.254 range.

Releasing and renewing the address does not correct the problem. Assigning a static IP address resolved the issue. Searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base, we found a registry hack that will disable APIPA addressing on the computer, and this does correct the problem so the computer can connect to the network again. We assume that the problem is a result of an update from last Tuesday, but we have not determined which update is the problem. We are still looking. Our concern is that as DHCP leases expire with computers in the field, that this effect may appear. If you get calls for loss of network or Internet connectivity, have the user run IPCONFIG, and if they have an APIPA address, the registry hack is outlined in KB article

IP Address Conflict With Another System On Network

May 18, 2007

I keep getting the following pop-up error message: "window-system error- there is an IP address conflict with another system on the network". I don't really understand it, but I guess I should do something about it. Can anybody give me an idea? I saw in another, similar yet unresolved posting that the experts requested IP Config details. I was about to post those here, but am not very knowledgable about security. Before posting such data in a forum, is there anything that I should exclude in order to avoid the meddlesome entry of reprobates?

Unable To Sync To Time Server - RPC Server Is Unavailable

XP Pro SP2, all latest updates. When I reboot, I can correctly sync to a time server, but after an unknown amount of time it goes back to saying "The RPC server is unavailable" instantly after clicking Update Now, regardless of what server I tell it to sync to. I also noticed that if I view my nForce Networking Controller status, then click Properties and go to the Authentication tab, everything is greyed out. If I hit OK without changing anything (I can't change it even if I wanted to), a message pops up saying "An unexpected condition occured. Not all of your requested changes in settings could be made" and just goes back to that window. I have to hit cancel to close it

System Shows Acquiring Network Address

Jun 14, 2010

My computer has recently started saying "acquiring network address" and has not been able to connect to the internet. My toolbar has also reverted to what looks like an older version. I run on xp and I have internet explorer 7. I have run virus scans and stuff already. I have also done some research, but most explanations for my problem are full of techno-lingo. However, I have tried running ipconfig but that hasn't worked. If anyone could offer some step by step instructions, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm not that good with computers but I know some stuff. Oh yeah my connection is wired (however you say 'not wireless').

I cannot ping the other machines by name, either. All other machines in the network run fine.I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling components of Network Connections, and TCP/IP is the only protocol installed. I have confirmed that all of the computers are in the same subnet and same work group. There is no firewall software installed on the machine, apart from XP SP2, and I've disabled that.
