I have a trial version 2003 server and have installed it at home. I use Active Directory. When making a DNS server, I pointed my workstation to the server for its DNS, this worked for about 10 minutes. As per Comcast rules about not being able to have a static IP address for the server. How to make a dynamic IP and when it changes just go in and change my workstations to the new DNS which would be the servers new IP?
View 9 Replieslaptop suddenly stopped being able to view webpages on IE and cannot connect to Window Live Messenger. When signing into Windows Messenger I receive error 87200ee7. When I contacted Messenger Customer Service they directed me to the Command Prompt and the following list of commands.And also "repaired my internet connection" in IE. However, I am still having the same issues despite my computer being connected to the internet (I can still download via Limewire) and having no firewall set up.
View 13 Replies View RelatedNormally it connects to Orange BroadBand (ex Wanadoo, ex Freeserve) using its ADSL Speedtouch modem but while it's on my network I'm wanting it to use my network connection.However I try,any attempt to browse the iNet is met with it trying to connect via its dialup ADSL connection I've got connection settings to say don't bother).ipconfig /all reveals exactly what I'd expect for the LAN connection, DNS server is fine, etc. and I can ping an IP address but when I try to ping a hostname it says it doesn't know anything about that name, i.e. it's not managing to get the IP address from the DNS servers (I've also tried specifying other servers).

When I hook up my modem through usb it works fine but unable to utilize my full download speed capabilities. Hooked the modem up via ethernet to laptop and it worked just fine. The only thing I can find wrong that I don't know how to fix or what is causing it is the fact that the physical address of the card comes up as the broadcast address (FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF). Very strange.

So I pressed home button of my key board so the My Computer window converted to a web page. But after that the address bar disappeared. I closed the window and restart the machine and opened the internet explorer, but still address bar is missing. I checked under the tools and I can see the tick infront of the address bar.

After we install Windows updates, Windows assigns an APIPA address in the 169.254.x.x range, instead of getting an address from the DHCP server. The effect is that the computer loses connectivity with the network and the Internet. You can confirm this problem by running an IPCONFIG and checking for an address in the 169.254 range.
Releasing and renewing the address does not correct the problem. Assigning a static IP address resolved the issue. Searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base, we found a registry hack that will disable APIPA addressing on the computer, and this does correct the problem so the computer can connect to the network again. We assume that the problem is a result of an update from last Tuesday, but we have not determined which update is the problem. We are still looking. Our concern is that as DHCP leases expire with computers in the field, that this effect may appear. If you get calls for loss of network or Internet connectivity, have the user run IPCONFIG, and if they have an APIPA address, the registry hack is outlined in KB article
I am using Windows XP Home edition. How do you delete an address from the list of automatic webb address list in the Address box? I tried highlighting it and entering delete but it doesn't get deleted.

I mark 'from device', click the '...' button & select 'File' in the dropdown, then brows to the file itself. Under 'select the backup sets to restore' I check the only checkbox there, then in the 'To Database' I select the name of the database in the file (a new DB name appears there as you select the file).
XP Pro SP2, all latest updates. When I reboot, I can correctly sync to a time server, but after an unknown amount of time it goes back to saying "The RPC server is unavailable" instantly after clicking Update Now, regardless of what server I tell it to sync to. I also noticed that if I view my nForce Networking Controller status, then click Properties and go to the Authentication tab, everything is greyed out. If I hit OK without changing anything (I can't change it even if I wanted to), a message pops up saying "An unexpected condition occured. Not all of your requested changes in settings could be made" and just goes back to that window. I have to hit cancel to close it

1. I've got to set up a Terminal Server Licensing server and was thinking about putting this on my second domain controller. I was wondering what would happen in this server dies, though. Is there some way of having resilience in this scenario? Perhaps a second Licensing server or something, the way you have 2 or more Domain Controllers?
I have an EEE pc here, with only 2gb SSD inside, and running windows! (Yes i really would be better off selling it on ebay and buy some lego or something) - buuttt, I had a final thought before doing so; to span the volume onto my external drive. However when I try to convert my external 2.5" IDE 40gb HDD, the 'convert to dynamic disk' is grayed out. I don't know what to make of this, and have found nothing much specific enough on google so far.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe drive in question is a dynamic data disk, not my system drive. I had reason to re-install windows onto my system drive. Before I did that I checked to make sure that the data drive, which is formatted as an NTFS drive, and is a dynamic disk, was intact and functioning ok. With XP installed on the system drive I went to look for the data drive in explorer (have done this procedure on many occasions without problems) and could not see the drive. Go to administrative tools and I see a message that says the drive is unreadable.

The second disk is installed using NTFS dynamic disk. Last weekedend I formated the XP disk, and installed XP again. After installing, the second disk comes up as "unreadable" dynamic disk. Is there a way to make it readable? I haven't done anything to it, so all the data should be there.

after waking my computer up from screen saver and trying to minimize an internet explorer, everything froze. I restarted it by reset switch, and an "NTLDR missing" message came. I started windows by recovery console and I was able to log on to my windows installation (I did nothing, because i have forgotten how to replace NTLDR!). I checked the connection IDE cable to my primary ATA hard drive (disk 0) and the message didn't appear again. Windows started and just before displaying welcome screen "the blue crash screen" came up and computer restarted automatically. I was not able to read the error message because I saw the blue screen just as a splash! I tried recovery console again and it did not recognize my windows installation. then i tried to install windows again. there were 4 drive available.....
I have been having trouble removing spyware etc from my XP Pro machine, I decided in the end the best thing to do was a complete format. I had recently converted my HD and it's 3 partitions to a dynamic disk, without thinking whilst going through the XP text setup, I clicked delete partition for C: and created a new one, this in turn deleted the dynamic disks, I never clicked format after I had created the new partition and quit the installation. I removed the hard disk and put it in another XP machine, I can see the 3 dynamic volumes using the disk management tool and the all say failed, I cannot get them back online or figure out how to repair them.

It is a dynamic disk, and come up as "unreadable" in the disk management tool of windows. after previous reinstalls of xp I seem to recall to get the option to import the disk, but all I get now is the option to change it to a basic disk, which will in turn erase all my data. If anyone could help me with tips on how to access my disk again without losing data, I'd most appreciate it. Or alternatively tell me where I can find a program to pull the data off the disk before I make it basic.

With first XP PRO install I was able to import foreign disk with no problems and data on 200Gb was intact when I connected 200GB drive after updating XP. Because of driver problems on installation, I had to reinstall XP PRO and this time had all drives connected throughout installation. XP saw RAID and 200Gb and i installed XP on RAID array. When I try to import foreign dynamic disk this time it gives me an error," The operation did not complete. Check system log." Log : Error source is LDM. I checked and all sevices are running. 200Gb HDD is in BIOS and in device manager.

I have ran in yet another problem... a BIG problem. My 300 GB Maxxtor Hard Drive now lists as Dynamic Unreadable... I am now trying to find a way to recover my files... I have with my disk setup. I have 3 dynamic disks which were all working fine until last night when I upgraded my processor and memory. I have fitted an XP 2600 with 333 FSB in place of the 266 version. I also replaced my 512MB of PC2700 with PC3200. I should explain that I did not realise my MB supported the 333 FSB when I bought it. The PC 3200 is purely to give me some leeway for overclocking. Anyway since changing the memory and PSU the PC will not boot at all. I can boot from a floppy or CD but I cannot from the C drive. If I try to restore from a ghost image on another drive I am not given the option to copy to the C drive at all. If I try to re-install Windows or I try to repair the existing installation, I am not given the option to repair at all. I also cannot get into recovery console
