My dad runs a Quick-Basic program that does particle-physics calculations. He uses the command prompt to run the program. It worked fine on his old 486 (it printed the results when he hit cntrl+print-screen). Then he bought a windoze box with XP. The program still runs fine, you can see the results whizzing past. It's twenty times as fast. But we can't figure out how to print the results. The Quick-Basic code has print commands in it. They just don't seem to talk to the XP-based print que

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently underwent a clean install of both Win2k Pro & WinXP Pro. In both instances, the DM is reporting that the 'Multimedia Audio Controller' and the 'PCI Simple Communications Controller' are not correctly recognized (drivers not installed).I've done some searching online and many people suggest that a dial-up modem is the culprit behind the messages. In fact, there isn't a dial-up modem installed in my system, only a 10/100 NIC which works fine with both Windows native driver and the maker's driver.I've also searched for the PCI commun. control. drivers online to find that I have nothing to download. I'm not entirely sure what this controller does, although I can most likely find the multimedia audio controller. It's worth noting that XP is acting flakey sometimes when I use explorer to navigate around directories, and that I was recently unable to install Sisoft's SANDRA diagnostics app. Otherwise, the system seems to be stable enough to use online and for basic text editing.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an EEE pc here, with only 2gb SSD inside, and running windows! (Yes i really would be better off selling it on ebay and buy some lego or something) - buuttt, I had a final thought before doing so; to span the volume onto my external drive. However when I try to convert my external 2.5" IDE 40gb HDD, the 'convert to dynamic disk' is grayed out. I don't know what to make of this, and have found nothing much specific enough on google so far.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running a home network with multiple Windows XP machines attached to the Internet with a Linksys router with the DHCP function turned on. Is it possible to have one of my machines use a static IP address instead of the one leased by the router. I know how to setup a static ip address, and I am using a number in the same subnet mask but I can't get access to the Internet.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn reading this disk as I have lot of useful data on it. I don't want to convert it into basic type as it will destroy the data. Will it solve my problem if I convert disk 0 - the 40 GB disk (system disk) also into dynamic type with NTFS file system (using Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management) ?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a trial version 2003 server and have installed it at home. I use Active Directory. When making a DNS server, I pointed my workstation to the server for its DNS, this worked for about 10 minutes. As per Comcast rules about not being able to have a static IP address for the server. How to make a dynamic IP and when it changes just go in and change my workstations to the new DNS which would be the servers new IP?

View 7 Replies View RelatedThe drive in question is a dynamic data disk, not my system drive. I had reason to re-install windows onto my system drive. Before I did that I checked to make sure that the data drive, which is formatted as an NTFS drive, and is a dynamic disk, was intact and functioning ok. With XP installed on the system drive I went to look for the data drive in explorer (have done this procedure on many occasions without problems) and could not see the drive. Go to administrative tools and I see a message that says the drive is unreadable.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have two hard drives in my computer. The first disk contains XP and the software, the second contains personal stuff. The second disk is installed using NTFS dynamic disk. Last weekedend I formated the XP disk, and installed XP again. After installing, the second disk comes up as "unreadable" dynamic disk. Is there a way to make it readable? I haven't done anything to it, so all the data should be there.

HDD configuration: (both converted from basic to dynamic)...............
after waking my computer up from screen saver and trying to minimize an internet explorer, everything froze. I restarted it by reset switch, and an "NTLDR missing" message came. I started windows by recovery console and I was able to log on to my windows installation (I did nothing, because i have forgotten how to replace NTLDR!). I checked the connection IDE cable to my primary ATA hard drive (disk 0) and the message didn't appear again. Windows started and just before displaying welcome screen "the blue crash screen" came up and computer restarted automatically. I was not able to read the error message because I saw the blue screen just as a splash! I tried recovery console again and it did not recognize my windows installation. then i tried to install windows again. there were 4 drive available.....
I have been having trouble removing spyware etc from my XP Pro machine, I decided in the end the best thing to do was a complete format. I had recently converted my HD and it's 3 partitions to a dynamic disk, without thinking whilst going through the XP text setup, I clicked delete partition for C: and created a new one, this in turn deleted the dynamic disks, I never clicked format after I had created the new partition and quit the installation. I removed the hard disk and put it in another XP machine, I can see the 3 dynamic volumes using the disk management tool and the all say failed, I cannot get them back online or figure out how to repair them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter I did a reinstall of windows xp, I could no longer access one of my disks. It is a dynamic disk, and come up as "unreadable" in the disk management tool of windows. after previous reinstalls of xp I seem to recall to get the option to import the disk, but all I get now is the option to change it to a basic disk, which will in turn erase all my data. If anyone could help me with tips on how to access my disk again without losing data, I'd most appreciate it. Or alternatively tell me where I can find a program to pull the data off the disk before I make it basic.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI intalled Stripe RAID array with (2) WD 74GB Raptors which show up as C. I have a 200GB SATA HDD that was used as backup HDD in same system with previous PATA RAID array. With first XP PRO install I was able to import foreign disk with no problems and data on 200Gb was intact when I connected 200GB drive after updating XP. Because of driver problems on installation, I had to reinstall XP PRO and this time had all drives connected throughout installation. XP saw RAID and 200Gb and i installed XP on RAID array. When I try to import foreign dynamic disk this time it gives me an error," The operation did not complete. Check system log." Log : Error source is LDM. I checked and all sevices are running. 200Gb HDD is in BIOS and in device manager.
