Jan 15, 2006I have win xp pro sp2 How much virtual memory do i set?Leave win manage it? Put 1.5 or 2.5 times?So far my system has the same(2GB).Is this the reason my picture sticks in games?

Virtual Memory Low Message / Windows Virtual Memory Minimum
Dec 10, 2004I keep getting the error message that my Windows virtual memory minimum is too low. I have Microsoft Windows 2000 and the following settings: total paging file size 205 MB; minimum 2 MB; Recommended 190 MB; Currently allocated 205 MB; current registry size 21 I'm not the system administrator so I can't change these numbers. I also couldn't find the pagefile.sys that someone suggested looking for. My IT guys don't know what's wrong; they reformatted my computer but I got this error message again. What should I tell them to do?

Jan 2, 2007At bootup, I get the message that windows can't create a virtual memory page or it is set too low.I have tried resetting the virtual memory in the Control Panel>System (Nothing works-Windows recommends 768M but only reports 256M. Setting the Min/Max has no effect.I have checked security in Explorer's Security Tab (in Safe Mode) and it is set for Everyone > Full Control.I have tried "spf /scannow" - no effect.I have no "pagefile.sys" in the C drive root directory (the "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.)I have looked and followed the various links that have been suggested and nothing seems to help. The various register cleaners all report tons of errors. Are any of these worth the $20 to $40? Will they fix my problem? If the only solution is to reinstall Windows, should I wait for Vista and start over with it? Will Vista run on a 4 year old laptop?

Oct 6, 2008Computer keeps alerting me that my virtual memory is low. As a result, my system loads extremely slow and I have to force a shut down when I'm ready to quit. I did a ctrl-alt-delete to view my processes and it appears that my scanning processes are 80K of memory. Next in line is internet explorer using 50K.

Jan 7, 2005Continually getting the message that my virtual memory is low. Often my computer just locks up. I doubled the memory allocation, but it made no difference. I have Mcafee's virus scan running all of the time and I leave on the machine always. After I reboot it may take hours for it to happen again but it always happens. I saw something similar on another thread about removing programs from the startup file, but I was unable to find the msconfig file.

When I hit OK, all my applications would close, except my Outlook. I'm running Win2K with 512 memory. My computer is only 1.5 years old. I didn't play any games or download anything so it's not heavily used. But why the message then?

Jun 21, 2008I don't really have a problem on my hands, but I would like to ask a few questions relating to Virtual Memory and Memory Leak.
I downloaded a game back in December, but hasn't been installed as yet. I heard that it is created using "C++" or "C" (whatever it is), and I learned that it has a memory leak. My Virtual Memory was running low (it may already have beforehand) by the time the game was installed. My computer crashed two days later as a result.
But some users haven't experienced any problems with the game. My question is, is it a better idea for me to install the game on a CD-ROM or USB Drive and play it from that media type (instead of from the hard drive) so that I can protect my PC from crashing due to low virtual memory?

Oct 10, 2006Normally it connects to Orange BroadBand (ex Wanadoo, ex Freeserve) using its ADSL Speedtouch modem but while it's on my network I'm wanting it to use my network connection.However I try,any attempt to browse the iNet is met with it trying to connect via its dialup ADSL connection I've got connection settings to say don't bother).ipconfig /all reveals exactly what I'd expect for the LAN connection, DNS server is fine, etc. and I can ping an IP address but when I try to ping a hostname it says it doesn't know anything about that name, i.e. it's not managing to get the IP address from the DNS servers (I've also tried specifying other servers).

Oct 19, 2008I have been receiving messages that my virtual memory is low. The computer is running slowly and frrezing at times. I ran a scan with a programme called RegCure and it found 996 errors. Of course I have to pay for the programme to remove the errors. Does anyone know if this programme is any good, or is there another one that would do the job - maybe a free one? Sep 8, 2010I am having problem of virtual memory on this laptop,when I boot my laptop,it takes a long time to get to the desktop screen and then an error messege appears saying something like "The system is too low on virtual memory and need to increase the size of virtual memory".I do understand something about virtual memory usage I have checked the Peformance tab in Task Manager and the paging file usage is 960MB.Under Physical Memory(K),it says available memory is 35888 or something less then that. The CPU usage goes down and than shoots up to 60% or sometimes even higher. Could it be an over heating issue?Please note that the base of my laptop gets really hot.I have even checked the virtual memory performance in System Properties and the paging file is happening at Drive C:I wanted to know that should I change the setings of virtual memory?Should the remaining partitions like D: and E: be assigned paging file instead of C drive?

Sep 14, 2005I am having repeated messages with low virtual memory for my desktop. I'll have programs stop working with low memory messages, can't load another program message, things wont print. I reboot, and all is fine for a while. I'll go into the control panel to increase the virtual memory. It was set at 764mb. I changed it to custom 3000 mb min,4096 mb max. rebooted. went back to control panel and virtual memory was still at 764 where it says total paging file for all drives current 764. but higher up in the panel it says c: 3000-4096. My Question is- With these specs, what amount of space should I alot to the Virtual Memory to on my C: Drive? Windows recommended amount or should I increase it some (mainly due to the Sims2? I want a quick boot up of course, but also all the least load and stall time possible. I'm kinda new to this so please be specific.

When it boots, in normal or safe mode, I receive a dialog box once the user selection screen is displayed with the title "virtual memory minimum too low". Then an explanation that XP is going to re-adjust it. At this point everything is hung. At the time I got the machine, there indeed was only 200M left on the C drive, but even when I expanded the partition and gave it 25G free, I still get the message.To make matters worse, I can't seem to boot any CDs in the drive so I have to work on the drive on my machine.This also means I can't boot an XP disk to do a repair/re-install. Was it really low and now just can't get past the message even with the expanded drive?

On Start Up, there is not a lot of extra programs running in the background, and most of the time, my system runs fast. (I use MS Config.) Today, however in my System Tray, I got a Low Virtual Memory Warning Message. What does this mean? I use IE 8 most of the time and occasionally Firefox 3.5.The other thing that I noticed is that from time to time when I right-click on the desktop, I will get a momentary fade-out before the options come into view on the screen. The same thing will sometimes happen when I right-click on my Avast Anti-Virus ball in my System Tray. I only use the computer for Word Processing, e-mail and basic Web Browsing. The computer was purchased in October 2004. Why would I be getting this warning?

After conducting some research the site said the virtual memory should be at least 100MB. My computer shows the minimum at 384 and the maximum at 768.
