i am running server 2000 in my home as and server. i just recently put it in. sense i have put it in i have not been able to run my backups for all of my stuff. have a drive that i call apps on my server and it has all my setups and other stuff. when the backups start copying from that they lockup on files it seems some what random on the file although now that i am thinking more on it i seem to rember seeing the same files over and over. when it lock up it locks up the whole computer. and my backups are run by a batch script
I mark 'from device', click the '...' button & select 'File' in the dropdown, then brows to the file itself. Under 'select the backup sets to restore' I check the only checkbox there, then in the 'To Database' I select the name of the database in the file (a new DB name appears there as you select the file).
I have an HP Lap top with Windows 2000 Pro on it. When booting up, the computer will go through all its normal start-up procedures. When it comes time for the Username/Password, I put them in, I hear the wave sound for windows loading, and then it freezes! The hour glass cursor remains on the screen and moves, only NOTHING happens from there on.
However,I can get it to boot normally after this by shutting it down.... then going into the Bios Set-up screen.....Change NOTHING & simply exit out of the Bios Set-up......THEN it will start normally and bring up the Desktop! BUT....if I shut it down again, It will freeze right after the Log-in just like before. Im tired of always having to go into the Bios to get this darn thing to work
Am I right in thinking that they are both pretty similar except that server has support for multiple processors and extra network related tools and facilities. The reason I ask is that if a piece of software works on Windows 2000 server, is it extremely likely that it will work on Windows 2000 professional too? As a bit of background information: I work for a small company which supplies temperature monitoring equipment which needs to be networked. I've been told that it has been tested on Windows 2000 server but not on Window 2000 professional.
I have evaluation copy of 2000 server on computer for training purposes One thing I cannot do is uninstall it!! The machine is useless to me with it on and I just want to return to an operating system I can use
I have enabled ftp server on my windows 2000 server/ISA Server.Our internet connection is ADSL with US robotics router running. I configured the ISA Server to allow the ftp requests. I tested the connection using web browser as well as cute ftp and I have no problem in connecting by entering static IP Address from web browser and cute ftp.
The objective for ftp server is to share files with our clients. Now the problem is i can connect by entering my static ip address but not the internal domain name of my windows 2000 server which is tecnoserve.dxb. I dont want to give my clients our Static ip address to connect our ftp server.

I have two computers, one with windows 2000 advanced server just installed, the other with windows xp pro sp2. I want to have a domain with 3 accounts: administrator (of course, me) and two other users. I want it so if I change my desktop on one pc, I can log off that pc and walk over to my other computer and log on and theres my new desktop. I just want the pc running xp pro to receive all the rules, settings, desktops, etc from the server.

This is very bad timing, as we have a backup problem too.I know throwing money at the issue would solve it, but that is not currently an option.

I set-up a FTP site on Windows 2000 server so two remote users could access files on the Server. I have a static IP address for the site. These two people who need access previously had static IP Address to the server. They would type in a web site address which would then request an IP Address. They then logged on the site that way with a username and password. They let the hosting service expire for the web site and stopped paying for the static IP Address.Now my friends want to to have access to the Server again.I set up a FTP Site on the Windows 2000 Server. First time for me doing that. The Properties of the FTP site can be viewed by clicking on the attached web site.I can ping the Static IP Address successfully.
I have an older server, manufacturer unknown, that was running Windows 2000 server with all the latest service packs. It was being used as a Citrix server in our environment. The server was put in before my time here and I saw that somebody had changed the C: to a M:We have since taken the server off the network and plan on using it as an internal file server. For some reason, I am unable to install a clean copy of Windows 2000 or 2000 advanced server on it.I have tried to wipe the disk clean with DBAN and KILLDISK and WIPEDRIVE but all just hang on the system.I have a Windows 98 startup disk that I was able to boot from and ran an FDISK.I was also able to format the C:.When I am in DOS and switch to the C: I type in Dir and it comes up with no files found.I checked the partitions in FDISK and it shows the Primary Partition as being active and shows the correct amount of disk space. Whenever I try to install Windows 2000 Advanced Server the system goes through the process of checking the files and gets to the point to begin installation. When I try to install the operating system, the next screen comes up saying it cannot find the hard drive.This is very frustrating as I know the C: is there as I can see it from DOS and it looks to be configured properly.
I'm working on a Dell Poweredge server that has Windows Server 2000 .. It has become very slow so I added another gig of RAM to it which helped some.. I went to defrag and the Bar was solid red. Windows defrag won't touch it so I tried installing Diskeeper's new 2007 version only to find out it wasn't compatable with 2000 server. Anyone know of a good program that will work on 2000 server? there are a number of reasons why this might fail including the Directory Security settings within IIS, whether the web server is running on a different machine from the sql server, the connection string within the asp page, etc. What is the db connection string being used in the page
I am trying to configure a 2000 server in an active directory domain environment and have a simple question.
I have several accounts and would like to configure them to be administrators on the local workstations, but not a domain admin. I can't quite figure this out. It'd be nice to be able to do this all from the server. I'm assuming it's a domain policy.
strange problem here now. My cursor locks up when I just "float" over any avi file for an extended 4-5 second period (but doesn't happen with MPG or WMV files, etc)the cursor locks up and I can't click on anything....and I recieve the "not responding" message when I press down CONTROL-ALT-DELETE tab.Strange thing is....I don't think it's a virus because I ran Norton, ran Hijack this...but still the problem persists.
For some reason, windows explorer has started locking up when I open a folder with many video clips in it (pretty much any folder with more than 50).I have a feeling that this is a codec problem, but I've installed pretty much every codec I can find and I'm still getting the problem.

I use Network Places in xp prosp2 to manage files on my website via FTP. I can rename and delete files on the server and copy files from the HD onto the server. However I can not move or copy files from within the server. Nor can I save a file directly onto the server from within another application.
I recently switched servers, with the new server having a different name than the old. I deleted all my old offline files and re-synched with the new server, but the old server name keeps reappearing in the Synchronization pane during Offline Files synchronization. How can I delete all references to the old server?
I just upgraded my very tired old Compaq Presario 7598 from 98SE to XP home edition, somehow I lost Word 2000. Prior to the upgrade I saved all my important docs to an external Buslink hard drive. Now when I try to view my stuff it says I need Word 2000. When I put the disk in it asks for the numbers off the jewel case, I don't have these as it came as bundled software when I originally bought the computer. Compaq is being of no help!! XP Pro SP2, all latest updates. When I reboot, I can correctly sync to a time server, but after an unknown amount of time it goes back to saying "The RPC server is unavailable" instantly after clicking Update Now, regardless of what server I tell it to sync to. I also noticed that if I view my nForce Networking Controller status, then click Properties and go to the Authentication tab, everything is greyed out. If I hit OK without changing anything (I can't change it even if I wanted to), a message pops up saying "An unexpected condition occured. Not all of your requested changes in settings could be made" and just goes back to that window. I have to hit cancel to close it
I am currently working on a project and I am in need of a way to run applications off of a central server from an XP client. The applications that need to be run are from the Microsoft Office package. This is for a school project, if more information is needed I can try to provide it

1. I've got to set up a Terminal Server Licensing server and was thinking about putting this on my second domain controller. I was wondering what would happen in this server dies, though. Is there some way of having resilience in this scenario? Perhaps a second Licensing server or something, the way you have 2 or more Domain Controllers?
I lost a file from my file server yesterday that was extremely important by accidentally deleting it when on my local computer. I am running win2k. When I delete a file from my computer it goes to the recycle bin. When I delete a file from my file server, which is using win2k as well, it does not go to the recycle bin on either computer. Is there any I can tell the file to go to the recycle bin when they are deleted
