my computer is running super slow. I ran a virus scan and it didn't find anything but when I look in the task manager something called System Idle Process is taking up over 80+% of my cpu and it wont let me turn it off. How can I stop this program?
View 1 RepliesI ALT+CTRL+DEL to bring up my processes and i noticed at the bottom of that window that SYSTEM IDLE PROCESS is taking up 80-99% so i watch it for awhile and it doesnt go down at all, the lowest i seen it was 77%.Now i have about 30-40 things running in the Background not a problem for my computer. I have 2 Gigs of RAM should be more then enough. but this process is really slowing me down.

View 2 Replies View Relatediv'e been searching around for 30 minutes of what the problem could be but i have not found anything. iv'e been looking through msconfig startups and there is nothing wierd there, iv'e also been looking up my programs through ad or remove program if there is some random programs that is installed on my computer and i didn't find anything. When i open my task manager it is System Idle Process that is jumping around between 48-61 cpu usage, i don't know what SIP is for or what it do, so it would be nice if someone could tell me little about SIP and give me some tips over how to solve this problem with the cpu usage. I also found out that rundll32.exe is using about the same cpu usage as SIP 50-55 what is rundll32.exe?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter my computer finishes the boot process, I start Windows task manager and click on the processes tab. I scroll the listing and at the end I find "System Idle Process is cycling CPU usage at 25,44, and 98 percent within an approximate four second sequence. I do this because I normaly boot and try to run Outlook Express to no avail and I am trying to find out the problem. When I try to open Outlook Express I always get the following dialog. "Outlook Express could not be started because another instance of it is still running on your computer. Please log off of windows and then restart Outlook Express. If the problem persists, save your work and then restart your computer." I go to start and click on Log Off. I wait two minutes and try to start Outlook Express. I get the message the application failed to initialize as the workstation is shutting down! I try to restart the computer but it won't restart or even shut down. Any application I then try to start results in the message "the application failed to initialize as the workstation is shutting down!" I have to Power off the computer.

View 12 Replies View RelatedAfter a recent win xp pro sp2 install, a system idle process always remains on. It doesn't take more than 16kb usually, so is not a big problem but it does manage to keep my PC's busy light flickering constantly! It is really annoying, but it did not come with the install either, it started a little after it. In my opinion, it was not triggered by any kind of a software or program, but is another one of those "unfortunate mistakes" that windows keeps us entertained with. I probably could fix it with a windows wash, but I was wondering if anyone has any other ideas. My CPU is 700 mhz, celeron B (or the old one, from 97). I have enough disk space, ~ 100gigs, so I am sure it has nothing to do with the page file either.

When I have been using the internet (Internet Explorer version 7) I occassionally experience a slowdown of everything internet related. I check the Tas Manager and it shows my System Idle Process using 99% of CPU. I find this odd, as my system is clearly not idle cause I am using it! My computer is on a network, and I havent heard it happening to other computers on the network until today, when the same thing occurred on another machine in the network. any ideas on what it is?

View 7 Replies View RelatedThis is not my pc, but my parents'. It is a Compaq Presario. It has a P4 3.06Ghz cpu, 1GB of ram, and runs XP Home SP2. I remember when my parents first got the pc it was very fast and stable, now however they complain of two problems.Firstly it is really slow, especially if your mouse pointer hovers over the taskbar or if you attempt to do most things with Explorer, like right-clicking. Sometimes this can lock the pc up for minutes at a time. The second problem is that it doesn't shut down no matter how long you leave it. The best it manages to do is remove power from the keyboard and mouse, and then only occasionally.I Have investigated the problems with the speed of the pc, and the problem seems to be to do with the system process. Task manager reports this process as using anywhere between 40% and 99% of the CPU all the time.My actions thus far have been to do a complete sweep with anti-spamware and ant-virus, and they didn't find anything. Next I ran process explorer, which showed that the system was using about 50% on deferred procedure calls, 20% on hardware interrupts, and 30% on the System process itself. Upon looking at the threads running in the System process, I discovered that the thread ACPI.sys+0x10b10using the entire 30%.
I must admit I don't really understand what ACPI is, but an internet search revealed it to be associated with pcs being unable to propperly shut down. For this reason I am now assuming that the two problems (unable to sut down and running very slow) are related. This is just an uneducated guess however.So can anybody suggest what the problem might be? Or how I might solve it?If you need any information that I have forgotten, I will gladly provide it.
My system process under Taskmanager-processes-image name-system is taking up 61000k memory. I recently reformatted my computer and before the reformat it only took up less than 200k memory. I have windows xp up to date and i only have my video drivers/ directx and a few steam games installed, i have done a full virus scan and found nothing. this is my gaming computer so i like to keep it as fast as possible. does anyone know what could be cause system to be using so much memory?

FRESH clean install. running SP3. xp pro.then installed graphic and mother board drivers.before connecting to the internet or any LAN or installing anyother application. i installed NOD 32 and Spy bot, did both scans. then connected to the internet and did updates for nod and spybot. and scanned again. CPU usage after this was 1%.later during the day. my CPU suddenly was 50 % and idle was 99%that to me is wrong. and if its just a bug. its one that is killing my pc.this is a constant rate of 60% odd (running so far for 3 hours... no change)
i am not sure but could it be the SATA?
Allright I have just recentley reinstalled XP. This reinstall was precipitated by the fact that I tried to reboot yesterday, and got the strange grey sector bar across the bottom of a blank monitor, which at the time I though was a very bad sign.... hence the reinstall of XP.I should note that I had been planning on reinstalling soon, as I had run a lot of intensive software thru this install, testing various spyware, regmechs, so it wasnt much of a choice/surprise reinstalling XPHome...
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a main WIN XP Home Edition based computer with an Intel 3118 chip, 2GB RAM,190GB Hard drive with 126GB free, additional drive via USB with 470 GB and 399GB free and networked with a laptop and Dell computer all able to read each other. On the main computer I have 60+ icons on the desktop and have Zone Alarm Security Suite and Forcefield running updated.I have cleaned all computers with Crap Cleaner and Esaycleaner have defragged and deleted all unwanted files but still it takes some 9-10 minutes to boot from hot or cold and the close down of programs also takes between 1-2 minutes.
View 32 Replies View Relatedpc was very stable until I introduced new replacement tv card After a system freeze caused by a new pinnacle tv tuner I had to do a hard reset ( press power button for 4 secs ) When the system rebooted it stuck on the post screen, it auto detects my hardware and then stops.After about half an hour it moves on to the next bios screen (which would normally only show up for a second or two during boot up) and then stayed on that screen for 16 - 24 hours.I gave up, left it running & went to sleep (still displaying the same screen in the morning) & then work the next day. I came home from work to find the windows welcome screen on my monitor!!?? But on rebooting it takes nearly 24 hours to start up
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've checked my task manager under processes and can only account for about over 100mb in RAM being used on Idle. But under the performance tab the physical memory shows out of total 1047788(1023mb) roughly only 573900(569mb) is available and the rest is in System Cache. Not to mention Page File usuage rests at about 370+mb on idle.As you can see I'm only working with 1g of Ram so this really affects my applications. Any one know where all this RAM and PF usage is going too?

View 6 Replies View RelatedHaving a major problem with svchost.exe. Everytime I restart the computer an instance of svchost.exe uses a new PID and takes up 95-100% of cpu. I have to find the instance and then "end the process" to use the computer. I have scanned with PCtools antivirus, PCtools spyware, AVG antivirus, Pctools maestro, registry booster 2. All spyware and malware have been removed according to those programs. Registry has been cleaned, defragged and compressed. Still have the same problem.
my computer is running at 100% CPU almost all the time, erratically. I am SO frustrated-- this has happened to me twice before, and I could not figure it out, so I just reinstalled fresh copies of Windows each time.It runs fine for a while, then all of a sudden this same problem comes back. I am sick of having to reinstall all of my programs, and was hoping that maybe someone else was having a similar problem so I wouldn't have to reinstall everything again.
