i had Microsoft .NET framework installed,I have a question: Do i need it? For some weird reason I have Microsoft .NET framework 2 (Sp1),3 (Sp1) and 3.5(whats the difference between service packs and non service packs)so could i delete all of them because i realized that they take up quite alot of space??

View 1 Replies View Relatedi had to system restore and when i came back all my files where gone but i still ahd the same hard disk space left and then i ran my diskk defragmentor and i found some files that i had that are now fragmented and still takeing up large parts of my memory here is what the Analysis report for the defragmentor said and when i go in to USERDATA to try delte some files it says USERDATA is not assable ,acces is denied and i tryed goin in it on safe mode and im administator on my computer so idk y it wont let me in plase help i only got 4% disk space left and when i click run dick defragmentor it says i need 15% space to run efectively sould i still run it and c what happens?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a 5Gb partition purely for XP Pro. Its got to the stage now where that partition is completely full. I've tried clearing temp. internet files etc as the ballon suggests (baloon tells me I'm running out of space on that partition), but this only takes off a few hundred Mb at best, and the extra space is soon filled again.It then suggests removing windows components that aren't used. To be honest, there's very little to remove in here as most things aren't installed. I've had a look through a lot of folders on that partition to seeif there's much I can remove, but I haven't found much to clear out.Han anyone suggest why there is now so much room taken by XP Pro? When I first installed it, it took up about a Gb (I think), and also anyone think of what files I could look to removing?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI Installed the Microsoft .NET Framework because it was listed as a high priority update and it appears that Windows Cardspace was installed with it. Windows Cardspace shows up in control panel as a vertical file such as are in Windows Vista. Also cardspace freezes the computer and keeps it from restarting. Should I uninstall the .NET framework 3.0?The freezing and restarting problems only happens when I'm trying to use cardspace(actually cardspace never loads.)
Another thought-I've seen links to windows xp help forums off the microsoft website but now I can't find them. Does anyone else know where they are?
I have a Windows XP with an 80Gig Hard Drive, 75Gigs of which are being used. What is the easiest and clearest way to see what is taking up so much space? I have 3 users on the computer. Once I find out what is taking up the space, I'd like to "archive" the media to an external hard drive then delete it from the C Drive. Does that make sense?

i have installed a toptheme program before and added a new theme to my desktop and the toptheme program has given me a trial period and ... after the period has expired, i uninstall it.. and ... everything in my desktop cant be access such as my computer... some dll file cant found ... i restart my comp .. uxtheme.dll cant be found ... and i just can see a plain wallpaper without any icon and the start menu bar is not display... tried it on save mode ... same ~.... help !!! realli need help ... thanks !!!

It fails to install every time and comes back again and again to install. I did a very quick search on this problem and it seems there are problems concerning how Framework was loaded and what versions youo have.First of all, as far as I know, I have only loaded a new Framework version because a program I downloaded informed me I need this new version. I do not keep track of how I loaded Framework, what versions or anything. Looking as some of these proposed solutions require knowing a lot more about how you loaded them and what versions you have.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI ALT+CTRL+DEL to bring up my processes and i noticed at the bottom of that window that SYSTEM IDLE PROCESS is taking up 80-99% so i watch it for awhile and it doesnt go down at all, the lowest i seen it was 77%.Now i have about 30-40 things running in the Background not a problem for my computer. I have 2 Gigs of RAM should be more then enough. but this process is really slowing me down.
View 14 Replies View RelatedThis is not my pc, but my parents'. It is a Compaq Presario. It has a P4 3.06Ghz cpu, 1GB of ram, and runs XP Home SP2. I remember when my parents first got the pc it was very fast and stable, now however they complain of two problems.Firstly it is really slow, especially if your mouse pointer hovers over the taskbar or if you attempt to do most things with Explorer, like right-clicking. Sometimes this can lock the pc up for minutes at a time. The second problem is that it doesn't shut down no matter how long you leave it. The best it manages to do is remove power from the keyboard and mouse, and then only occasionally.I Have investigated the problems with the speed of the pc, and the problem seems to be to do with the system process. Task manager reports this process as using anywhere between 40% and 99% of the CPU all the time.My actions thus far have been to do a complete sweep with anti-spamware and ant-virus, and they didn't find anything. Next I ran process explorer, which showed that the system was using about 50% on deferred procedure calls, 20% on hardware interrupts, and 30% on the System process itself. Upon looking at the threads running in the System process, I discovered that the thread ACPI.sys+0x10b10using the entire 30%.
I must admit I don't really understand what ACPI is, but an internet search revealed it to be associated with pcs being unable to propperly shut down. For this reason I am now assuming that the two problems (unable to sut down and running very slow) are related. This is just an uneducated guess however.So can anybody suggest what the problem might be? Or how I might solve it?If you need any information that I have forgotten, I will gladly provide it.
Having a major problem with svchost.exe. Everytime I restart the computer an instance of svchost.exe uses a new PID and takes up 95-100% of cpu. I have to find the instance and then "end the process" to use the computer. I have scanned with PCtools antivirus, PCtools spyware, AVG antivirus, Pctools maestro, registry booster 2. All spyware and malware have been removed according to those programs. Registry has been cleaned, defragged and compressed. Still have the same problem.
my computer is running super slow. I ran a virus scan and it didn't find anything but when I look in the task manager something called System Idle Process is taking up over 80+% of my cpu and it wont let me turn it off. How can I stop this program?

I am SO frustrated-- this has happened to me twice before, and I could not figure it out, so I just reinstalled fresh copies of Windows each time.It runs fine for a while, then all of a sudden this same problem comes back. View 3 Replies View RelatedDefraging main HardDisk Drive in XP Home edition w/ diskeeper 8.x and everything went smoothly as always, but then I decided to uninstall some useless apps and then went back to re-defrag and the reserved system space disappeared. Diskeeper was moving my files into the area where the reserved system space used to be so I stopped it. I then ran system restore and brought my system back 2days and re-tried to defrag and the reserved system space is still missing. Is this even a big deal? The computer (Dell 4400 P3) seems to be working just fine. Thanks.

I did a clean install of Windows 2000 Pro on my Toshiba Tecra 8100 laptop. My hard drive has a capacity of 11gb. After the clean install I only have 4.8gb left on the hard drive. I have followed reformatting instructions and installed again, but get the same result. It is taking forever to test different suggestions, since I have to keep reinstalling. File system is ntfs. A good portion of the gig being used is in Documents and Settings, but I thought that should get wiped out. I don't understand why I am still seeing folders for iPod, Lexar, etc. I have burned 16 hours on this.
