What happened to my mouse? It's a Dell, came with my computer, and hooks up in the serial port in back of the computer.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy laptop (Toshiba) used to have a feature where if you clicked on the right side of mousepad, you could drag the page up and down, similar to the scroll wheel on mouses if you click them down.Anyways, a few months ago, I upgraded my computer to Windows Vista. And I hated it. So I used my restore disk, to get back to Windows XP. Well, when I went back, this feature wasn't working. Today I used an IBM computer, and it had this feature, and it reminded me of how often I used to use it.So my question is if there is any way to re-program this feature? My laptop also used to have a feature that if you held your finger on a corner of the mousedpad, it would open up a different menu, depending on how you configured it. That feature doesn't work either. I don't care if I get that feature back, I'm just assuming the two issues are linked.

1.The mouse scroll wheel works sometimes when surfing on internet , but most of the time it does not. It works fine when typing in Word.
2.The mouse pointer jumps around randomly.
3.The left mouse button sometimes behaves as if it is the right button.
4.Sometimes the computer seems to freeze and will not respond to mouse commands. This can be “reset” by ctrl+alt+delete, and choosing “switch to” the program I was working in. This can happen even when only one program is running.
5.Sometimes the mouse seems to left-click and drag by itself.
6.The keyboard sometimes misses letters that I press
All i want is to disable the middle-mouse button click while on firefox/internet explorer. (ie. you click your scroll wheel and a little circle with two arrows pops up and you just move your mouse around to scroll)

is invisible until I scroll the mouse cursor over where it should be. I
changed the appearance from XP to Classic and back. That changed the drop
down menus back.They were doing the same thing.
I have two computers connected through a home network. One of the computers is very new and the other, two years old.Both run XP-SP2. I use one mouse for both computers - connected through a 2 port KVM switch. On the older machine, the mouse hangs after I close Internet Explorer. After a delay of a minute or so, it does come back most often. This does not ahppen on the new machine. Mouse does not seem to hang after I close other programs..(tested a few, but cant swear by it). This gets very annoying when I am in a rush.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWindows XP, using explorer, if you look at a list of files, and hover over a filename, Eplorer will display a yellow tooltip with file type, date modified, size, etc. The information seems to be related to the file type : .EXE files show different information in the tooltip than .DLL files. How can this be configured ? How can I tell Windows which information to show for which type of file? I'm using two different PC's, and one just stopped showing the "Date modified" in the tooltip. I'm looking for a way to restore that.

However when you close the tool tip it's hidden, not actually terminated. Are tool tips part of shell32.dll or explorer.exe?Is it possible to terminate it? I don't mind RCE either of the files.

I managed a successful clean install, however, I am now unable to connect to the internet, my wired pc doesnt seem able to automatically obtain the ip address from the netgear router. I am able to connect my vista notebook wirelessly using the router.

However, when I try to open the drive by double-clicking on the corresponding drive (F in My Computer, a pop-up window appears saying "Choose the program you want to use to open this file:". I chose windows explorer since it's what you use when trying to explore or browse through files.
The problem is, the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is grayed out and can't be checked/ticked. So, I have to keep pointing the "open with" pop-up box to explorer.exe whenever I want to browse the files in my flash drive.The last attempt that I did to fix this problem was to right click on the drive letter then properties then went to the autoplay tab and chose "Open folder to view files". The "Open with" pop-up box still appears whenever i double click on the drive letter.
When I attempt to open internet options the window flashes open and closed. If you blink you miss it. If I click on " Delete Browsing History" nothing happens. Everything else seems to be working. I have Zone Alarm running for virus, spyware, firewall. I scanned with Spybot and SAS.

I’ve booted Windows several times and the hex addresses all stay the same. I’m thinking it might be useful to upload the memory dumps, but don’t know how to do this. I have made several small attempts to repair the system. Firstly I started the computer in safe mode and scanned the hard drive using AVG Free, which (surprisingly) found several Trojans and other viruses. This made no difference when starting the computer, so I pressed F8 again when Windows was starting and chose ‘Last Known Good Configuration’ which again made no difference. Finally I started the computer in ‘Safe mode with Command Prompt’ and ran ‘chkdsk’ which found no errors...........
i just bought this new computer for 1 of the staff and i have configured his profile. but then i tried to browse the internet and found it very slow, not in opening the IE, but in loading the pages. it takes around 20 to 30 seconds to load a page. when i use ping to check the connectivity, it takes a long time to display the first line, but it gives me a 1ms when pinging the server, which is good.
now i login with the administrator account and find the internet browsing is fast, but again the ping takes a while to display the first line. i did give that user Administrator permissions and tried again, but it's the same issue. i thought it would be higher permissions which could affect the user. So, i added the user to "domain admins", "administrators" groups, and i tried again, but the same situation

It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

Starts/loads fine. Will run fine for days w/ I.E. open, O.E. open=no activity. Upon visiting different internet sites, using, after about 15+ minutes the pointer freezes/no error message/Cont-Alt-Delete provides nothing-can not shut down computer w/ button on CPU , must unplug/restart Several times I have been searching MS for downloads for I.E. -6 (Updates/patches/info) (as in my little mind this is problem) but C. freezes at that point as I click on a link.

Now whenever I try to start Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer the windows installer starts and the windows will not open until I have cancelled the installer several times. I scanned the registry with Registry Fix and fixed all problems. It still starts every time. Netscape has no like problem starting.

Then I shut down the system and started to work the next day. Every thing is perfectly ok except for one thing. In Windows Explorer, on any folder or drive if I double click or open I get a crash. If I do explore then there is no problem.
