All i want is to disable the middle-mouse button click while on firefox/internet explorer. (ie. you click your scroll wheel and a little circle with two arrows pops up and you just move your mouse around to scroll)
I work for a library and all I want to do is completely disable the right mouse button in Windows XP on public access computers (but allow me to login as administrator and enable/disable it again). I figured Windows would have something like this built in, but it doesn't. I figured there would be a freeware program that could do this, but I can't find one. Some mouse drivers allow you to disable the right mouse button, but not for the mice I have. Do you know of some obscure Windows XP registry setting that would allow me to disable the right mouse button (in all contexts), or of a simple freeware utility that would allow me to do this?
My laptop (Toshiba) used to have a feature where if you clicked on the right side of mousepad, you could drag the page up and down, similar to the scroll wheel on mouses if you click them down.Anyways, a few months ago, I upgraded my computer to Windows Vista. And I hated it. So I used my restore disk, to get back to Windows XP. Well, when I went back, this feature wasn't working. Today I used an IBM computer, and it had this feature, and it reminded me of how often I used to use it.So my question is if there is any way to re-program this feature? My laptop also used to have a feature that if you held your finger on a corner of the mousedpad, it would open up a different menu, depending on how you configured it. That feature doesn't work either. I don't care if I get that feature back, I'm just assuming the two issues are linked.
I always use the middle mouse wheel to click on links that way they come up in another tab. Today, it's not working and it's driving me nuts!I love searching by opening links this way! What happened to my mouse? It's a Dell, came with my computer, and hooks up in the serial port in back of the computer.
My mouse and keyboard has both started to behave strange. 1.The mouse scroll wheel works sometimes when surfing on internet , but most of the time it does not. It works fine when typing in Word. 2.The mouse pointer jumps around randomly. 3.The left mouse button sometimes behaves as if it is the right button. 4.Sometimes the computer seems to freeze and will not respond to mouse commands. This can be “reset” by ctrl+alt+delete, and choosing “switch to” the program I was working in. This can happen even when only one program is running. 5.Sometimes the mouse seems to left-click and drag by itself. 6.The keyboard sometimes misses letters that I press
When I use the right mouse button, the menu that should appear doesn't. It is invisible until I scroll the mouse cursor over where it should be. I changed the appearance from XP to Classic and back. That changed the drop down menus back. They were doing the same thing.
Hold CTRL and use the scroll wheel on the mouse to increase or decrease the font size.Hold Shift and use the scroll wheel to go back or forward between webpages.
I can't enable virtual scrolling on my laptop Touchpad. The options are not "grayed" out in the control panel device settings, but when I try to click on the boxes, no check appears. The "Apply" button becomes active, too. I need to disable before virtual scrolling can be enabled
I can map the right mouse click onto a keyboard button? I know that on the desktop i can use shift+F10 as an alternative but I want to map it for better gaming such as alt+D. Also the shiftF10 only work on the desktop.
Most of the time when I try to use my right mouse button ( for example, right clicking on an icon, photograph, file name) will freeze up the system and it will become un-responsive right away.If I am doing a word doc, I can right click for spell check and that works fine, or right click the start menu.I have a Dell computer running XP service pack 3 with a pent D 2.33Ghz and 1 G memory. tried renaming Normal.dotm, as someone had suggested, but it made no difference.
Why is it that some programs won't open with the left mouse button? I have to use the right button and click on the "open" line in the drop-down menu that appears.Sometimes the left button works after about 15 to 20 seconds.
I'm trying to log in safe mode to windows XP. After pressing F8 and choosing safe mode the log on window appears but the keyboard won't work to enter the password. I turned off the computer and try again like ten times and still can't make it work.
i am using xp pro with a Labtec wireless keyboard & mouse and the scroll wheel has broken in the mouse so i have bought a usb wireless mouse. The existing keyboard/mouse connects with a black square receiver box of which then has 2 leads so it can be plugged into the mouse & keyboard port at the rear of the pc.
I have plugged in the new usb wireless mouse ok but the system still works with the old broken mouse. In the mouse settings box both mice are listed but is it possible to dissable the broken mouse so the new mouse will work, there is no option to dissable the mouse on the screen like there is for the new usb wireless mouse. Failing that how can i uninstall the complete keyboard/mouse as the only listing in add/remove programs is the labtec wireless desktop of which is just somekind of add on software as with this removed the keyboard/mouse still works.
The left hand mouse button will not work on the desktop icons, nothing will open unless I use the right and open button. I'm running Win XP hope SP2. I have tried all the usual mouse settings that came with windows and the software for the mouse. The mouse I am using is wireless but I have also tried others with the same result
When I double click using the left mouse button the file does not open. Instead the seach screen comes up. This has just started happing lately. How could I remedy this situation.
I use Windows XP home edition. My computer locks up every now and then, the mouse, keyboard, everything. The only way to recover it is to press the reset button. It may go for days and have no problems, then may lock up several times in one day. Than it might go for days again with no problems. It happens a lot when you are playing the windows games, but it will also do it sometimes with other programs. I have looked everywhere to try and figure it out, but I have had no luck. Do you have any ideas what might be causing this or where I can look to correct this problem?
My intellimouse works correctly for awhile then double click fails. When this occurs the mouse control panel fails to open. Shutting down and restart corrects the problem-but only for awhile and then the same thing happens over again. I reloaded software to no avail. any help?
the computer wasn't working for some reason, so I checked it out, and everything was gone from the screen besides the background. Files and icons and what-have-you, were all gone, with the exception of a small dialogue box in the middle of the screen. All it says is "ok" and there is an "ok" button at the bottom, and the red "x" at the top. I've clicked both buttons several times, but nothing has happened. I'm scared to unplug the computer, or restart it or anything, because I don't know what it will do.
The first issue is that my cursor is stuck in the middle of the screen upon startup. It will not move and I have to shut down, check connections, (keyboard and mouse are wireless, batteries are new) and as it restarts I click the mouse and it moves after I do this several times. I have to put the computer on standby every night or I have to go through the whole thing again. Moreover, windows startup has become horribly slowand I have hi-speed roadrunner I use firefox for my internet connection. I have run defraq, disk cleanup, AVG, maleware, spybot, hijackthis, and Ad-aware. No change.... Thank you for any help. The following is my system infolet me now what other info you may need. BTW V2Premier batch loaded XP on the cpu so I do not have a disk. They are out of business and have sent me in circles trying to get one.
I was installing some windows updates and my laptop restarted. Now I cannot install any updates nor can I update my IE. Please any help is greatly needed.
It seems my pc is doing something new that it hasent done before. Right in the middle of games the system just reboots on its own and then i get a Disk Consistency check. I have no idea whats doing this since it wont even give me a error message. Does anyone know what too look for here? A friend said overheating might cause this but he knows i got a big cooling system, even has a hard drive cooling system and a high speed CPU cooling fan with a exterior intake fan
What's with this Palm Centro ad in the middle of the page, then when you go down and open a message further down, here it is again. Could'nt it go to one side?
When we open a new window, no matter whether game or internet, it is very small and even after we maximize it the text is very narrow in the middle. When we open a game the window stays very small and won't allow us to open it larger. Please tell me how to extend windows. The computer is a HP laptop with XP.
I currently installed XP Professional on my computer. Now everytime i boot my computer up it comes up in system bios. It tells me "Please select the operating system to start. So I choose XP Professional, then instead of coming up in the normal windows screen I have this little start up screen in the middle of the monitor. The color is all jacked up and so is the images.
I got a new computer and I have been having problems with my mouse. I have a simple optical wired mouse. During random times, my mouse click freezes, although my mouse can move and I can use the key board at this time, I cannot click or focus anything. To fix the problem I can control alt delete and exit the Task Manager, this fixes the problem.
I am using XP sp3 on an Intel P4, having MS corded mouse, was also using Logitech optical mouse. When I open any web page and when I start to scroll down or up, computer reboots.
Probably a simple question. I just deleted some files, and programs, and now when I read a page on the net, it doesnt scroll smoothly, rather is wavy(if that makes sense) did I turn something off that allows smooth scrolling?
my cursor has been frozen in the middle of the screen at startup. I thought it was my wireless optical mouse, but after switching back to a regular (cabled) mouse, it did it again. I just unplugged, and replugged the mouse and it began working normally. I cleaned my system previously with Spybot, Adaware, Regscrub XP, and have AVG, Zonealarm and MS Spyware updated. I ran AVG and Stinger and found nothing.
I do not know what's going on, in the middle of surfing tend to receive an error message:'DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close. Please tell Microsoft about this problem' which prompts me to send error report.Sometimes I also receive internet explorer error report similar to the above.May I know what is wrong and how do I eliminate such errors from my computer? Please recommend a useful tool/program for curbing these problems.I am running on windows XP and internet explorer 5.
